Infinity Ward Not Following In World At War's Footsteps

One might think that Treyarch and Infinity Ward, the studios that trade off on developing Call of Duty titles year in and year out, would work well together. Well, sometimes animosity and hostility begets better quality through competition rather than cooperation.

That, and it's just so much more fun for the media. According to Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, Modern Warfare 2 won't be following in any of the footsteps blazed by last year's Call of Duty: World at War by Treyarch. "We're not taking any pages out of World at War's book," said Bowling. "We're crafting a special and unique experience for Modern Warfare 2 players that I don't want to spoil too much." As for the multiplayer details:

"Definitive numbers like max level cap, complete weapon lists, and number of new perks is something I don't want to ruin and save for when the player ranks up and sees they're constantly receiving new rewards for it, whether that's a new weapon, perk, killstreak unlock, or item for their callsign." Now, Bowling and Treyarch Senior Producer Noah Heller haven't been on good terms lately, as Bowling even asked the media to ignore Heller and instead, pay attention to "someone who knows what the fu** they're talking about." Then he went and called Heller a "Senior Super Douche." ...that's a headline right there. The question now is, what will Treyarch do to top Infinity Ward next year?

Just make a decent NAM game! World War 2 has long since been dead, GG made an alright NAM game but maybe Treyarch can pull it off.

I really dont know about you guys::

But I ended liking World at War more than Modern Warfare. Its just more fun with the co-op and the NAZI ZOMBIES. Also I believe it has better graphics and sounds than Modern Warfare. Its ok to have some internal competition but I believe that these guys are disrespectfull for each other's job and in the end we gamers are the losers.

Thats why I like and SUPPORT Sony's First Party because they share they ideas to make PS3 games better than what the competition has to offer.

I really dont like how Robert Bowling ego has grown thanx to the succes of Modern Warfare...an incredible fun game but with the laggiest multiplayer the PSN has to offer. They also dont commit themselves to the fans like Treyarc did. I really feel bad for Treyarc for trying their best and dont get recognition. I hope they come out with a new IP that TOPS any COD game.

Too bad this would not happen thanks to ACTIVISION and Mr. Kotick.

1) thats good to know as tones of rewards and unlocks as u progress is nice, i play mafia wars on facebook, not the same i know, but its always getting beter the higher you go so it would corelate.
2)i still have a niggling feeling, and even though im defo getting it and trust it'll be good
a little feeling it might be complete shite? i haven't seen a preview anywhere yet. all these preorders are hyp based only.

all treyarch has to do is make a COD game that exclusively deals with zombies, it doesn't matter if they are nazi zombies, terrorist zombies, dog zombies or super mutant zombies, treyarch just needs to stick to the only thing that made WaW worth the purchase, zombies

Infinity ward is too damn cocky since COD4 became a major hit, it's pitiful how they act towards one another. Nothing like Sony Dev's; they share codes, help each other out so that the games PS gamer benefit:) like Naughty Dog,Guerrilla, and Insomniac

At least Treyarch released than one damn ma pack, and gave PS3 owners some double exp weekends. IW was basically all over MS

I'm willing to bet the focus of next years game will shift to Vietnam...that would be a fresh take on the same genre for me...especially after World At World...Mordern Warfare and it's sequel(and hopefully MW3)are all in a class of their own...

how about world war 1? no one ever does anything with that war... can you imagine running around with bayonet's on the end of the gun? it would add more to the run-n-gun play you get from all FPS'ers... adding more up-close combat elements... there were lots of memorable battles in WWI... i just wish war game creators would leave WWII alone... there were plenty of other great wars to experience...

the american revolution for god's sake is another!! i wouldn't mind using muskets... it would definitely even the playing field online when you have to reload after every shot... even the good players will find themselves caught in the act of reloading, like so many of us average players deal with...

Haha nice. Dog fights would consist of shooting at the other plane with your pistol and manually dropping bombs with your hands. Seriously...they did it.

The American Revolution would be kick ass. Although, unless you are the Americans, you would just constantly have to line up, shoot, reload, shoot, reload, shoot...Thank god for guerrilla warfare.

12 hours of sitting in a wet trench followed by a trip "over the top" to re-re-re-capture the same muddy, devastated piece of land. No thanks. WWI was a total clusterf**k.

Maybe an RTS...

Manual reloading was apparently a pain in that History Channel Civil War game.

I agree with your sentiment, though: try something else, please!

how about future warfare? then they would have to actually be creative enough to make weapons, armor, battle style and story.Instead of going off what already exists then making a good story/gameplay. I dont care what comesnext i just want my NVGs off the prestige edition.

That would be cool but COD tends to be grounded in reality, so unless they took real concepts that are starting to be used or at least developed (i.e. Chemical lasers to shoot down missiles) it would just be another sci fi shooter.

iunno.... the graphics in W@W do top mw.. the story in W@W for me, was more addicting... but that was because at the same time that i was killing nazis n tojo's, i was learning about ww2 in history class... so it was like ok class, this happened, then later that day im experiencing it the best i can without actually have been in the war... made the game that much better... not to mention zombies, and with the new map packs that just kept me playing longer than i have on mw...imo W@W did top MW... but MW2 will top w@w, even if the hype made it look better than it actually is...

MW was better that W@W...apart from Nazi Zombies XD only reason I played it after I got 100% trophies really (before they added more -_- {they shouldn't add more after release}). I've already pre-ordered MW2, can't wait for it!!

As for the next one, has anyone thought how funny it would be to have a game set in the cols war?! hahaha. Imagine the objectives..."Send threatening message to USSR"! LOL

and thats why i think the game will suck.
theres so much hype under this game i think IW have become complacent and kinda up themselves.
im weary ill buy it day 1 but i dont have high hopes for it,i loved world at war and thought it was way way way better than MW.
probably only because the week i bought it my cuz was over and it was the only co-op game i had.
sony and M$ really need to come out and make it compulsory for games to have co-op in one form or another.

The ONLY knock on Treyarch was the timeframe. It sucks but they did the absolute best you can do for a WW2 game. If that sucker was modern it would've beaten Infinity's baby.

BTW. Bowling sounds like the Super Douche.
