It's running fine so far, but there are a lot of little changes which (aside from the clock) I preferred the way they were. Some examples: the font on the XMB is larger, items auto-fade on the XMB, and the "loading" indicator in the upper right corner is now a clock face. Nothing huge, but not improvements IMHO. Also, they didn't fix the ordering of items on the XMB, putting the more-used items toward the top.

If the browser works better, though, it's a fair trade-off.

It should also help if the ps3 is in the circular ads every sunday. Checked best buy yesterday and not even a mention of the price cut let alone even the ps3 itself. Sony needs to put those commercials on round about quick to keep momemtum going.

BTW xbox price cut were mention inside best buy ad. total BS!

Yeah I know, what's up with that? Even the Sunday before this past one there wasn't a mention of the PS3 price drop in the Best Buy ad, I can't remember if they even had a PS3 advertised in the ad. But then in this week's ad there it was, "Xbox 360 now new lower price!" or whatever it said. I was disappointed about that.

DID YOU KNOW: Call of Duty has the controls for aiming and shooting as the triggers for X360! That is terrible! I love my ps3 controller even more after playing that vommit!

As far as features go, there is no question any more. I think the momentum will only pick up as we approach the holidays, but MS is fighting with its advertising so Sony has to counter that with more than just a couple tv spots.

As long as Sony continues the marketing campaigns on the Slim, throw down some massive campaigns for the diverse IP coming out (EyePet - Family Friendly, Gran Turismo 5 - Racing Enthusiast, Uncharted 2 - Platforming goodness etc...), I don't see how they can fail.

As usual, MS has a few exclusives...from increasingly tired Genre's (For me anyway)...so really the appeal is in Sony's exclusive lineup these coming months. Here's hoping that Sony puts its newly grown Marketing balls behind it's IP.

Of all those games you mentioned, Eyepet is the one that Sony should market the most. GT5 and U2 are pretty much on every hardcore gamer's radar, eyepet on the other hand isn't, eyepet will definetely bring some casual gamers onto to ps3 heck it even has me wanting it and I consider myself a hardcore. Eyepet is a huge weapon for Sony to take away some people considering to buy a wii. And the price diference for the slim and the wii isn't that huge anymore, so if Sony runs some ads on tv about Eyepet I'm sure Sony can pull of some huge hardware numbers this christmas season.

I agree largely with what you're saying, they could actually do an EyePet + R&C Bundle, or something like that. A bundle that's truly kid/casual friendly. Would be very appealing for children/parents alike.

However, I do believe a GT5 Bundle...well, let's put it this way, if Sony doesn't do a GT5 bundle...they're fu**ing idiots. There, I said it. GTA3 was bundled w/ PS2's and look how well THAT game did. Basically, GT is Sony's biggest exclusive franchise, by FAR...very very far. If they don't try to exploit that to their advantage...well, I just think it'd be a terribly bad idea.

I still think that the 160gb uncharted bundle is going away and going to be replaced by the 250gb gran turismo bundle. If they sell it for around 350 then xbox is pretty much done. Im not to into Gran turismo but that game just sells consoles no matter what.

The theme is pretty cool. It goes from day to night based on your PS3's internal clock. Sackboy runs around an itty bitty planet and all the icons are cute. As a first animated theme I wasn't expecting much so don't expect to be floored by it. I can understand people having a problem with the 3 dollar price tag, I figured I'd give up using the vending machine at school for a few days to even it out, haha.

On a different note, has anyone noticed that ps3 update 3.0 download wasn't that long, it usually takes me about an hour for any past update but 3.0 took me less then 25 minutes. Does anyone know how big the file was?

Having bought a slim I was under the impression my download was fast due to some of the features already being implemented on the system. My download was slow from 1-40% (4 minutes) but after that it took less than 20 seconds to finish.

Has anyone noticed that after downloading 3.0 you can't login to playstation network. The Internet browser works like It always does but login into Playstation Network is not possible for me right now. Looks like the first possible bug for 3.0 has been discovered.

Is anyone else having this problem too or is it just me?

Several friends have been telling me they can't get on the PSN. I haven't had a problem. It took me about 3 minutes to log into it after installing the update but ever since then it's been instant.

I think the PS3 sales will be higher than 60% in the first week, 60% in the long run sounds more logical. There are just too much hype in the PS3 slim to just have 60% increase. There has been a huge dip in PS3 sales in the Summer, due to weakened sales because of economy and the hindered sales from waiting for the new console.

If the sales were down 38%, then up 60%. It's back to where it started. There is nothing to brag about. It must be higher. I say double the sales at least.

Damn. Typing this on a bluetooth keyboard, using the PS3 Slim, 3.0 FW update. So far, I'm re-typing this the 2nd time around..

3.0 is incremental., All you guys expecting to be able to chat accross mult. games, need to lower your expectations. Sony knows you want this. But it requires more nerds in a room, staying up longer to get it done. In the meantime, enjoy the pretty sparkles and the new "What's New". And according to me, not much...

But 10million people online, it's like tuning a car engine while it's running.. one piece at a time..

3.0 is a fresh coat of paint, but some new spark plugs are coming: Uncharted 2, Last Guardian, GT5... much more..

It's the Year of the PS3.

IMO, it started looking desperate as soon as that shell-of-a-console went on the market. No Hard drive? Wired controllers? 256mb memory? WTF, Microsoft? This ain't 2002! And they call it the "Arcade"? I would be mad if my parents bought me that as a kid.

Is it Sony's fault that the PS2 still sells at $100 damn near a decade old? Or is it M$'s fault for making such a crappy sku of a XBox? It was desperation from the start, Highlander. How else would you explain a rushed console with such a high failure rate?

Does anybody notice that these 360 price-drops aren't really price-drops? Just modifications to the hardware? Take out an accessory, add an accessory, drop a feature, add a feature, change the hard drive, paint it black, paint it green...But no REAL changes to the machine itself.

Microsoft rushed the 360 because they were desperate to beat Sony to Market. Sony played them like a cheap...you get the idea. Sony let Microsoft and the world believe that PS3 was mere months away and Microsoft busted a gut to get the 360 to market. Of course it turned out the PS3 wasn't that close to launch, but MS had already played it's hand, they'd fallen for the bluff.

That qualifies as desperate in my book.... :D

Just went over to the playstation forums and it looks like the first bug for 3.0 has been discovered. Many users are saying they can no longer login to the playstation network. I myself am dealing with this issue, I can't login anymore.

Are any of you guys dealing with this issue?

Im actually experiencing some slowness while logging in after the update. i hope the reason is only because the network is currently saturated with so many people downloading the update.

Weird tes, I had issues trying to download QFB. I tried everything Sony asked and it wouldnt connect to the R&C server. I had to b!tch at Sony to give my money back for like a week. Finally they did. Bummer though. I wanted to play that game.

That sucks Jawknee. It's worth getting if the disc is the same price. I'm sorry I kinda misinformed you in an earlier post about this game about a week ago. There is a connection to TOD, but it's cutscenes only, at the end of the game, and gives a little info on Clank, but not much. It's minor enough to make me forget there was a connection. Nothing that vital to connect with ACIT.

Hmmm... well since it would be an obvious route to rip them off by handing them a dead PS3 in exchange for $150...I'm gonna say, at a guess mind, that yes, they do check. How much of a check I don't know. But if it were me, I'd check by playing a game disc, a BD, a PS2 game disc and a DVD. Then again, I'm careful about these things.

there is no way 360 can compete with the slim with 120G at 299 and blu-ray and tons of big releases in a year or two. whoever will still choose to buy the 360 over the ps3 slim at this point is either insane or blind

The PS3 is clearly the beter value purchase but here in the U.K for those who are clueless on which console to buy the 360 is still seems the better and cheaper option.

A store near me has signs saying pre-order your PS3 slim for £249 GBP but on the next window it has a big poster saying saying 360 Elite now £199 GBP.

Scratch that, it has just appeared as an icon under my PlayTV XBM Icon. So It is live now, it just appears to be a link through to the iplayer bigscreen website, although at a PS3 layered directory within the BBC servers. Wonder if it will get any future customisations.

I got mines yesterday and it is so dam small, whisper silent, and it gets semi hot in the back. I wonder if I can put my 160 GB Drive in my slim though. Because slim uses a SATA and I dont know what my 160GB one is??? This 120 GB SATA in slim uploads games so slow!

I checked Amazon and it says the PS3 Slim ships with a Sixaxis controller... Doesn't it come with a Dualshock3? They even wrote this: 'While the PS3 controller looks much like its Dual Shock predecessors, it will lack the force-feedback vibration since that would only interfere with the sensing system.'

I have played all the Halo's Halo 1 on PC, Halo2 on Xbox, Halo3 on 360 (O.K never finished 3, (3/4 way through I guess) other games distracted me away from it).

Halo is a good solid fps, nothing more, nothing less. Not worth the song and dance made around it though. Cannot see anything that would make me consider any future purchases on this franchise.

Teg, I'm glad you think I'm funny but why is Halo so revolutionary? Counter Strike and Half Life was more revolutionary then Halo. The Metroid Prime series is waaaaaaaaay more revolutionary then Halo. Like I said. Halo was fun like 9 years ago. There's only one company that's good at milking their franchises. That's Nintendo. Yes the PS3 Slim comes with a Dual Shock 3, Sony doesnt even make the SixAxis any more. Good to see the PS3 finally selling the way it should have in the first place. MS is on "major damage control" mode they have paid for premium add space on with a number of retailers including the aforementioned Amazon whos games page is totally focused on Xbox, also the ads supplied to places like IGN, Destructoid and N4G are all featuring only 360 price cut ads. Though I don't know why people consider it a price cut. Its not, all they did was strip the Elite of it's Elite-ness(cables and what not) and pahsed out the 60GB Pro for 50 bucks less, essentially making the Elite the new Pro, same price point. Sony did the same thing with the 60GB's when the PS2 compatible 80GB's came out.

Oh well MS was raping you with the Elite @ $400 any way. Come on an HDMI cable is 4 to 15 bucks on Amazon, still no wifi, Component cables are like 30 bucks and the cheap ass head set you get is uncomfortable. The only thing that made it Elite was that over priced 120GB HDD. Which is why many just bought the Pro.

How do you people find your way here? What are you paid by MS to scour the internet and be their defence force? Yes Halo is a fun game(I have enjoied all of them), its not a great game but IMHO no FPS is great. That being said ODST does not interest me in the least, its $25 bucks worth of 2 to 4 hours DLC and some old map packs thrown in, for $60. Sorry but even the most die hard Xbox supporters feel thats a rip off.

Microsoft was bound to send their damage control into overdrive because they really cannot match what Sony did.

That said, it's sad how many supposedly objective or balanced journalists and media outlets have allowed money or influence to shape their editorial. Not to mention retailers that apparently sell both products leaning so heavily to one side.

The days when retailers worked for the customer have gone. Now their entire focus seems to be separating customers from dollars and doing whatever they can to attract cross marketing dollars. I understand the business decisions behind retailer marketing campaigns. However there was a time when the retailer's staff were still free to offer useful, objective advice about the products.

Fast forward to today. I swear this is a true story. I have heard employees of a well known GameStore, actually tell customers that the Xbox 360 is a more reliable choice, and that the PS3 has been known to overheat. No, really. They then pointed out their demo PS3 sitting in the small, closed display case, in direct sunlight, at the front of the store. The same unit has been there since launch as far as I know, and springs to life when the PS button is pressed. I'm not sure, but I think it's actually configured to auto-off after an hour.

I just put down what I was looking at and left the store shaking my head.

Say what you will of Halo (I personally think Killzone 2 is my favorite FPS ever made), But it supports 1-4 Player splitscreen locally and online. It's this simple reason why it is as huge as it is, dont believe me then remember a game called Golden Eye.

I like Halo allot, but it doesn't deserve 90% of its blind fanboyish praise. However, give credit where credit is due. Killzone 2 is king of FPS, but Halo deserves some credit people. It is a great game.

Splitscreen was great before the online multiplayer kicked into gear. Now it's just an old reminder of how limited multiplayer gaming used to be. I HATE splitscreen. Oh and FPS on consoles.

I don't know man. Halo 1 was fun but not fun enough to get me to go out and buy an xbox. I had more fun playing Counter Strike. For me, that game is what got me into FPS.

I'm a huge fan of FPS (on PCs where they belong) and I thought Halo was mediocre at best. This was VERY apparent when it was finally released for PC and paled in comparison to games released 5 years earlier. I loved the Myth series. When bungie reported they were making a FPS I did a big wtf. Halo can stay on the 360, I have no use for anything Halo related.

Last time I walked through Walmart to see if the 360 had rrod'd again lol I noticed the xbox section was full of 360's and all the ps3's were sold out none in the back even...so yea I think the 360 fanboys are starting to feel the heat and breakdown and buy a slim...and GB space on consoles makes no diiference to me since I can buy a 500GB HD for my ps3 and swap it..I am far from tech savvy but it's so easy to do why not?

Personally, I don't like the slim. The original PS3, although somewhat big, made it's presence KNOWN. It was big, and in your face with a couple AAA titles. Shame the original PS3 doesn't have a power brick though...I liked threatening to beat people with my 360's power brick.

The slim looks ugly to me, and while the 120GB hard drive is nice, I can just buy a 500GB laptop hard drive and, kaboom, I've got a better PS3. Plus no b/c; what the fuck?

The PS3 does have a stellar line up, and I can't wait for the God of War Collection. Although I am a huge Xbox gamer, I must say, it's lineup is looking pretty lackluster. And Sony really needs to step up with the advertisement on the PS3 slim. I haven't seen anything but "Xbox 360 Elite: New lower price" everywhere. I haven't even seen any window displays of it. Again, what the hell Sony?

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 recorded a 43 per cent week-on-week sales increase in the UK during the week ended Saturday, August 29, according to GfK Chart-Track.

I said this would happen when I commented that the PS3 was still too expensive in the UK and should be brought in line with the prices that other countries are paying for the system and you just scorned and thumbed me down. Shame on you.
