God Of War Collection: Everything You Love, Plus More

To have Kratos in high definition is good enough for us, but with the addition of Trophies and Sony's claim that other bonus content and goodies might be in store, everyone should be sold on the God of War Collection.

Announced earlier this week, this awesome collection will feature both GoW and GoWII in brilliant 720p HD, 60 fps-action, 2x anti-aliasing, and the benefit of Trophies. But as Sony's John Hight told IGN in a recent Q&A, not all aspects of this Collection are 100% solidified just yet. The look and feel is finished, though; said Hight:

"So, we're still kind of evaluating, but we were prepared to upgrade the textures, at least on Kratos on both games, but honestly it's looking so good that we're thinking, you know what? It's probably better to keep it in its pure form."

It's obvious they're going to keep most of what we know and love; the display is pretty much nailed down, and the gameplay should be identical, of course. But check out what they might be planning to do in terms of extra features:

"All of the content that was in God of War 1 was in the playable image, and that will be in there. With God of War II, we actually had a separate DVD that had some bonus content in it, and what we're exploring with that is... We didn't want to just put a DVD on a Blu-ray disc. We thought that that would be kind of lame. So what we're exploring is putting that content in what's called a media file, so you'll be able to use your PlayStation 3 XrossMediaBar, go over into the Media area and have all the functionality of that to view those movies. So, one of the benefits is that you'll now be able to stop the stuff, rewind, fast-forward, so you'll treat them just like media files. So that's pretty cool."

So really, the games themselves will be basically the same (only that much sharper, of course) but what we'll be looking for are the extra goodies in terms of new content. For the price - $39.99 - it's a damn good package; after all, we're talking about two of the greatest action titles in history.

It's possible because my ps2 died before GOW2 came out and I never bought another ps2. I missed out on GOW2, FF12, Xenosaga Episode 3, and Kingdom Hearts 2. =\

I am just a bit concerned that they are handing this project to a relatively virgin dev team...

It is not Sony doing this, they passesd it off to Blue point to work on.

beat the first but, only got about half way through the second one... i own both still for the PS2 but, i would love to play these games upgraded to HD... i might seriously consider buying this for the upgrade in graphics (and really, they already looked pretty good on the PS2) and because of the implemented trophies...

sounds like a winner to me...

I wouldn't be surprised if they push it to 1080p. Isn't GOW 3 going to be in that resolution? But yes, I haven't played GOW II and I nearly bought a PS2 for it (again). Along with Trophies, this is a must collection.

I hope Kojima, Team ICO developers will take a gander at this success and considering MGS4, they should've done the exact same thing.

GT5 is gonna be 1080p as is Uncharted 2 (i'm sure) so hopefully these motions begin to set that as a standard so that games like God of War and those after it will also follow suit.

I was just thinking, what if they include this with the GoW3 limited edition. This is the only thing stopping me at the moment from getting this because I havn't played the first 2 games. What do you guys think? Will they include this in the limited edition.

If all three games were bundled as a "Mythic Trilogy" set there's no way I'm not purchasing on Day one.

BTW, for anyone who's never played any of the GOW series, here's the bottom line:

The greatest game on the PS2 was GOW...until GOW II came along!

I think that means the only person that can kick Kratos's @$$...is KRATOS!!!

in the article IGN asked them if chains of olympus will be in there, and sadly no it wont.
but there not going to do this plus a limited edition of GOW3 with these included.
theres no point, people who wanted GOW and GOW2 in HD would buy this why wait till march and get them with GOW3.
the LE will probably be a latex head of helios :D
a making of bluray, plastic replicas of the chaos blades and a little diary like the one out of batman AA, with some cool posters more games need posters and some cool themes for the PS3s XMB.
cased in a limited edition steel book.
now thats what i want, that would be so cool.
but 1 thing i really want is a massive painting of kratos on top of a titan killing his enemies, like the first trailer we saw.
now that would be SWEET!!! but expensive.

I still have all three God of War games, but am going to purchase this on day one. God of War:Chains of Olympus is the best example of a AAA title being integrated on a handheld gaming device.

I guess this is the Backward Compatibility Patent that Sony signed. Instead of making PS2 game BC, they making PS3 games out of PS2 and reselling them. This is good news for me, since I have no PS2 games. Reviving the PS2 era with better graphics is win-win.

I own both games but never play them. I know I missed out on the best action game of the last decade. But a special girl took most of my time until now that we broke up. Games keep me busy from thinking of her. Now I have an excuse to play them and keep collecting trophies.

I've completed both on my ps2 but, I will definitely be getting this. Nice to remind myself the story and get into the GoW3 by the time I finsh 2...

Btw - why are you people are so obsessed about trophies? Some of ppl are spending 40 bucks ONLY for the trophies, the great game is just an "add on"
It's like - "hey, I killed 400 cyclops in 5 seconds! I have platinium!", but it's sound more like - "I'm spending 24/7 with my ps3, I'm retarded..."
