Fans Unfazed By Price Of Modern Warfare 2: Prestige Edition
Remember when Infinity Ward unveiled that insane Prestige Edition for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? The one with real night vision goggles? The one that costs $149.99?
Well, a great many of you didn't particularly like the bundle, as many are sour on Activision right now and others simply mocked the price, which is now exactly half the cost of a new PS3 Slim or Xbox 360. But whether you're interested or not, there are clearly plenty of big CoD fans out there, because it appears that Prestige Edition is selling out everywhere. According to GamerDeals, Amazon has already said they're sold out of the PS3 version (they're going to need more supplies if others wish to pre-order), and calls to several local GameStops have confirmed identical news. We tried that around here earlier, and while a few stores still have some Prestige Editions left, most say they're already gone. We're talking mostly about the PS3 version; apparently, Activision won't be producing as many of these special editions for PS3 owners; either that, or the PS3 people are just more willing to shell out the bucks. You decide for yourself.
But the point is, don't think IW or Activision made a mistake; don't think there aren't people out there with money. And let's not forget how many gamers bought and instantly fell in love with the original Modern Warfare...

Secondly, I want to be able to look myself in the face when, after my either ignorant(of it being a unilateral hike)or too impatient(to do the decent thing and try to force a rethink) UK/EU gamers make the next COD a "premium" priced game everywhere else.
The fact is that far from anyone avoiding buying MW2 meaning Acti might chnage their greedy minds I'm just doing what I feel is the right thing. I think they're out of line with blatant profiteering but, I guess, also out of step if the average gamer feels that the game(which, to me, isn't the greatest FPS anyway-just the easiest to pick up and play, much like Halo)is worth more than other new releases.
Thing is I don't think COD:WaW or COD4 lost money and they don't need to push this(esp not if they aren't brave enough to match the rise they expect Europe to pay in their own backyard)hard through pure greed when thousands of UK and EU gamers are cutting back on luxuries at best and losiong their jobs or taking pay cuts at worst.
It would be great if we gamers were united enough to stand together when companies like the totally risable Activision(just look at their action over BL and TS for evidence of their low practises)aren't content with ripping us off with overpriced, malfunctioning, cheap, plastic peripherals and push us, for me and others, too far.
Gamers are constantly abused by the companies we keep in readies. Jaffe asking for a cut in second hand sales was another amazing thing, as a musician , to me. I get my work copied, downloaded illegally more than games get pirated I'd wager and yet I don't go rallying for a cut of what people sell their CD's on far-it's ridiculous and wouldn't even occur to people outside of gaming.
Sadly most gamers are either apathetic and think nothing can help things or, worse, actively refute the right of people who want to stand up for THEIR rights as well as their own. I've been told I'm crying, moaning, whining, whinging over stuff like this by people so keen to feel good about their ecision to buy regardless of the message it sends that it amazes me.
Everyone has the right to prove Activision right with their wallets making the rise fair supply and demand. However, it's a false economy caused by the immaturity of us as a community. The reason I say this is because I cannot think of many other luxury products that can manage to increase prices during a recession-and it;s happening because we're impatient and short sighted and, in most cases over loyal.
The reason I hear most from those wishing to legitimise getting the game(well of those who actually feel I might have some kind of point) is that they're supporting IW, the dev, in all this. "It's not their fault" they tell me but I haven't noticed anyone from IW distancing themselves from the eue watering spec eds or the EU hike, have you? SDon't tell me they couldn't have either as what would Activision do? Drop their stars? Exactly, they would be able to if they wanted but they're just as bad as Acti.
This gen we've forgiven stuff no other set of consumers would think of standing for, imo. RROD, Sony telling us to get two jobs to buy a PS3, Activision and Co and the sequel train getting out of hand(with a million GH games and all the placcy peripherals that entails)-among a host of others. We're a soft touch and people in the industry know it. We're also doing, with so many fanboys willing to argue their corners for them, most of their spin when things stink. They must think it's Xmas!
Sorry for going on but you DID ask and I'm plenty annoyed with Activision and the way we can't get together and spend more time arguing over supposed "console wars" than we do castigating companies for bleeding us dry time after time-and during the worst economic climate in an age at that!
So yeah, I doubt me, and the others I've spken to that agree, will make ANY difference whatsoever to Activision. However, and to me this is important(and likewise I refuse, this time, to buy Forza3 after T10 behaved like turds despite loving the series as I don't like rewarding douches for doing what douches do), I like to feel I do the right thing both for myself, my family and any community I feel part of-it helps me sleep at night. If, by some miracle, we do achieve something concrete other than knowing it won't be our fault the next time we all get fleeced, then that's a massive bonus but never think that a protest is pointless if the first one isn't successful in the ultimate aim.
BTW $150 for that pile of crap? People amaze me with their money to sense ratios.

Seriously some of the people out there who love the 360 should try out the ps3, the network may not be as great as live(sorry ps3 guys I love the cross chat feature) but the browser and my personal favorite, ps home, are all great reasons to trade up.
(sorry I got kinda went off there)

its amazing what people are willing to pay for crap.
ive never spent more than 150 bucks for a game, never have and never will.
120 bucks is overpriced let alone 150, all video games should be a maximum of 80 bucks when translated from US dollars thats what we should be paying not 120.
why the US can get 2 games for the price were paying for 1 ill never know.

Yes, the PS3 people are just willing to shell out the bucks because they never complained about the PS3's former price then. Or, they could be new Slim owners Or former 360 owners who migrated to the new Slim and want to take advantage of a FREE MW2 online play, maybe they just got sick and tired of paying for LIVE.
