Estimate: PS3 Slim Sells "Around 500,000 Units" In First Week
Everyone was excited to see the PlayStation 3 slim down - in terms of both the size and price tag - and early sales numbers were encouraging. But how did the PS3 Slim fare in its first week?
We still don't have the official NPD numbers for the machine, but according to preliminary statistics compiled by VGChartz, the PS3 Slim sold "around 500,000" units worldwide in its first week of availability; in the US, we apparently saw a 400% increase in week-over-week sales. They say Europe saw as much as a tenfold increase and an additional 200,000 units were sold in "other regions" (Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, etc.). Japan saw a big rise as well, as the PS3 Slim came in at 150,000 for the first week, which would be a 200% overall week-over-week increase. And of course, if the hardware sales spike, the software sales also enjoy a surge: many PS3 multipltform titles easily outsold their Xbox 360 counterparts during the week in question, and that supposedly includes the recently released Batman: Arkham Asylum. We should probably point out, however, that the PS3 version of this particular title offered a special bonus (ability to play as The Joker), so that may have played a part as well. But even so, this is all a good sign, and should indicate high sales for the holiday season ahead.
While VGChartz isn't always 100% accurate, they're usually pretty close, so hopefully, the NPD numbers will reflect this early estimation.

Imagine what will happen if it keep up like that in the long run.
I just want to see the Wii get knocked down to third place. Wii is really ruining the industry.

The thing is, it also took some of the casual gamers from Sony and MS.
However, in the long run, getting more people in the market is a good thing for this industry as it means more sales = more money spent on development = better games overall.

No, that would be a 15000% increase. The UK numbers increased by about 1100% week-on-week, outselling the DS, Xbox and Wii 3:1. Through deduction we've found those numbers to be at about 41,300.
That's about 192,000 for the UK & Japan combined. The US numbers as always will be a major factor in gauging the real worldwide effect of this price-drop and rebranding.

Went to my local walmart here in Ontario Canada and they have outsold all of their 120gig slims and 160gig fat consoles, but they are giving consumers a good deal the 160gig comes with unchartered, killzone 2 and infamous and 1 blueray movie of u're choosing from a list and they are not half bad titles, the 120gig comes with an extra dual shock 3 controller and LBP now these are great bundles.

I have a feeling the people who have been doing DLC exclusive stuff (GTA *cough*) are starting to regret their decision right about now.

R* gives the PS3, Agent & the XBox360, GTA DLC. I think they know what they doing. Plus, I'd rather have a brand-new IP rather than a couple of 15-20hr extensions to an old game.
Plus, all 3rd-party Xbox exclusives aren't really exclusive, they're timed. Those episodes will be on the 3 soon enough. Probably packaged-up and discount, too.

PS3 owners always knew that their systems were superior - now that the rest can afford to own one or justify the expense things will be looking very bright.
Is that the smell from nervous sweat coming from Microsoft? ;)

I suspect that it will be up there again as the holidays get closer and closer.
To think what a hundred bucks can do for sales figures :)
Edit: When they hit the million mark I'm expecting a playstation remix of Lil Waynes "A Millie".

some nights its so quiet i can turn my speakers off and i cant hear it running, on other nights the fans running so bloody loud i can hear it over my surround sound system.
but every time i check its nice and cool.
i wish sony had a fan speed choice in the XMB, that way if its running to loud you can quieten it down a bit.
i like to watch movies at night before i go to bed but cant do so because i cant hear whats being said because the ps3s so dam loud, and i cant turn it up because ill wake my parents up.

Seeing 500 000 PS3 slims sold in one week (not confirmed) that makes it +/- 1 800 000 a month (keeping in consideration they won't sell 500 000 every week, some weeks less and maybe even more in certain weeks depending on what gets released). So for arguments sake lets say they can pull off between 800 000 and 1 500 000 a month that will be between 4,8 and 8,5 mil(at best) in six months. So where will the Xbox total sales be at?
Okay I'm not stupid they(M$) will still sell during those times but I honestly don't think they will outsell the PS3 in the next 6 months. Not with the price drop and the Exclusives being released within the next 6 months.
Anyway so my prediction is that the PS3 will have a bigger worldwide install base by the end of 2010. It will over take the Xbox a lot quicker than what everyone said it would back in 2007...
On the other hand I could be way off, seeing I suck at these kind of things but if I turn out to be right then...well then nothing I just get to say "I told you so" to all my Xbot buddies which would be bliss.
