Square-Enix Confirms FFXIII Date, PS3 Bundle Planned

An online ad leaked the Japanese release date for Final Fantasy XIII early, but now, Square-Enix has officially confirmed it.

Boss man Yoichi Wada stood before the crowd at the Final Fantasy XIII Premiere Party and revealed that the massively anticipated RPG would indeed launch on December 17 in Japan. Further information from the event says a European release date (and presumably, a North American date) is coming in the very near future, and Sony's Kaz Hirai has said we can expect a PS3 bundle for the game when it finally arrives. We're not sure if this will be limited to Japan, but it's great to know it's coming. Furthermore, the pricing for FFXIII in Japan is a little interesting; it will retail for 8800 yen, which translates to around $95; it's closer to a hundred bucks with the tax. ...that's an expensive game, but you can bet the Japanese gaming public will still respond with vigor. We're not exactly surprised that a US/EU release date hasn't been revealed during this Premiere Party; it's more likely that Square-Enix is reserving that for the Tokyo Game Show in a few weeks time. Until then, we'll choose to stick by GameStop's listed date of June 21, 2010.

Of course, we may not have all the details from that party just yet so stay tuned. Maybe the last thing they'll announce is a Final Fantasy VII remake for the PS3... HAha...hahaHAhaHA! ...'sob'

Im thinking if there will be a price increase for the game when it's released in the states. Maybe a reservation now while it's still marked at $60 bucks.

you can reserve it all you want. if the price goes up, it will go up for you even if you preorder it while its 60 bucks. pretty much common sense that you will have to pay the higher price.

I agree with Scarecrow that the character designs aren't up to par with previous installments. However, to call them horrible is a terrible exaggeration. A minor drop in character design isn't enough to convict this RPG so soon. I'm sure it'll be nothing short of awesome when it finally comes out.

Not necessarily, my favorite FFs are: X/X-2, XII, and VIII

These characters look so out of place. You got the futuristic Lightning, then you've got a cowboy with an afro and a chocobo in it. A guy straight out of FFVIII, and some FFX characters

The mixture of design just doesn't MAKE SENSE
And it's the worst kind of variety I've seen in any FF, design wise.

I really don't think most of the character designs are too bad. Some look pretty funky, Lightening certainly grew on me. This game is going to be epic, I'm glad I started getting back into RPGs. Quick question(off topic) does Demon Souls really look that great?

well, white knight chronicles were released a while a go and final fantasy XIII isnt even out yet. Besides, square enix has been working a hell of a long time on this compared to white knight chronicles, i think. plus they have more money to throw at it.

As for FFXIII..... I'm just trying to ignore it, we still have to wait 6 months after Japan during them 6 months spoilers will be all over the web. But when its finally released I'm hoping it will be legendary & to the quality of VII - X

Already on my list of stuff to import, I will be playing that game come this christmas, and then again when spring 2010 hits. Who cares if it's in Japanese, it'll be awesome to finally play a FF game on my PS3.

To be honest this doesnt get me excited one bit...i've never really got in to final fantasy...i played one on my friends psp & i loved it but..i've never liked or a better word to use got into a Final Fantasy before in my life i did own one on playstation but i cant remember what one lol... Still dont think it should be a XBOX game..Final Fantasy is a Playstation game..just my opinion.

I Expect thumbs down lol

One should not directly "translate" the currency and prices in other countries to US Dollars pricing. The normal price here in Norway for new games is $100.

If it lands on any price over $60 here in the U.S. I will not buy this game. And that's from a guy who loves FF.
Videogames are expensive as it is, and SE sure can afford to put a "regular" price tag on it. Boycot from me if that's the case...

If they release this game at a higher price, then I'll have to pass. WKC comes out first and the story looks like something I would be more interested in anyway. SE should release this game for $50 to ps3 owners for lying to us every time they open their mouths and for making us wait just so they could include Billy and his x-gang.

I dont know if sony screwed themselves by announcing the bundle this early. I can see sales of ps3 slowing because they are holding off their purchase for the final fantasy bundle. Well, theres no doubt in my mind that this bundle will sell a lot. Kinda makes me think how much of japan already have a ps3.

BUT WOW...FFXIII 1/3 of the PS3 slim's price. Now that's SOMETHING LMAO. That definitely won't stop the otakus in Akihabara though hahaha.

I don't know who is old enough to remember this, but when Final Fantasy IV was out(Final Fantasy II in the states), it cost something like $79.99 at the stores and this was just a Super Nintendo Game.

If they charged that price here in the US for it, I would not be totally surprised based upon the cost and effort of this title.

IMHO, I wouldn't mind paying that kind of money for an extremely high quality and lengthy game.

And for a good fact, all games are not worth $59.99 when they first come out.
