250GB PS3 Slim Bundle Hits Europe "As Soon As October?"
The PS3 Slim was a huge announcement - second only in terms of importance to the price drop - but perhaps you're not happy with the 120GB hard drive. Maybe you need something twice as big. You data hog.
Well, the rumor of a 250GB PS3 Slim has been around almost since the original unveiling of the standard 120GB model, and now, we have even more evidence. Eurogamer Spain is reporting that the 250GB PS3 Slim will be available "as soon as October of this year," but it will come as a special package for Europe. This package will include FIFA 10 and be exclusive to retailer GAME; the expected price is €350 (£307). This comes not long after a FCC filing was found for this new Slim version, so at this point, the rumor might almost be confirmed. Of course, we don't say anything is official until we see the press release directly from Sony but most are already assuming that a 250GB Slim will be on store shelves for the holiday rush. If it is coming, you can expect it to be confirmed at the Tokyo Game Show in a few weeks time, where we also expect to hear about other big announcements. If you've already snagged the Slim...well, you can always swap out that drive with a bigger one; doing so does not void the warranty.
And obviously, we want to expect this new Slim to come in a special bundle package here, too. You know, just to kick things off on the right foot.

please quit screwing around with PS3 hard drives. Really, what is the difference in cost between a 120 GB HD and a 250 GB HD, or even a 500 GB HD? $10? $20? $30 tops off of Newegg. Is that cost really significant when you buy a $300 gaming console?
My problem with my 80 GB 5400 rpm HD, is that I really don't have a use for it after I pull it out and put in my 320 GP 7200 rpm HD.
I guess I could amazon/ebay it, but really, I'd rather have not bought an HD in my PS3 that I wasn't going to use in the first place.

I agree with you that the larger drives don't offer much value for those who will replace the HDD immediately, but they do allow people to delay the replacement for a while and therefore save money or get a larger drive for the same price.

When or if a 1Tb HDD comes at 9.5mm thick, I will consider upgrade again.
I want to be able to say, "1 Terra byte PS3 please"
Let's hope WD or Samsung can come up with 9.5mm HDDs in that capacity in 2010.
