Media Molecule Initially Concerned About LBP MGS4 Content
You know how the serious, "arty" types in any entertainment industry really aren't interested in lighthearted satire? Might you consider Hideo Kojima to be one of those guys?
Nah. We always find it interesting to learn more about how the masters think, and it's good to know this guy still has an excellent sense of humor, even when it comes to his own productions. You probably already know, but Media Molecule has provided LittleBigPlanet users with some MGS4 costumes and at first, they were a little worried they might offend Kojima. According to VG247, Media Molecule's Mark Healy noted the clash between LBP's simple, amusing humor and MGS4's serious, hardcore nature. Said Healy:
"We were slightly worried that our first attempts weren’t going to go down too well. We see Metal Gear Solid as quite serious, a hardcore, intense thing. Obviously, what we did was quite cute, almost satirical. But they loved it. They’ve got a great sense of humour and they really embraced it."
Fellow boss Kareem Ettouney echoed those positive sentiments by saying that they met Kojima and he said he was excited, and he really "liked the results." Media Molecule ended up getting a lot of support from the Metal Gear Solid team, and Ettouney said it "was a very smooth example of collaboration which celebrated the two brands and retained the identity of the two." It's good to see Kojima and Co. having fun with this; the dour, egocentric, "everyone-should-respect-my-work" dude we described in the intro clearly doesn't suit Kojima...which is a good thing. After all, we still call these things games.
