PS3 Sales Skyrocket: Up 300% In US, 1,000% In Europe
The PS3 Slim and corresponding $100 price drop was bound to generate a sales spike...and so it has.
According to Joystiq citing GamePlan Insights Survey Data, sales of PS3 hardware at top retailers in North America were up 300% in the first week of September (based on week-over-week sales). In Europe, sales jumped quite literally 1,000% and the system shot off the charts in Japan; leaping 7,350%. In other statistics, PS3 exclusives Gran Turismo 5 and God of War III rank very high on the consumers Top 10 most wanted list, while other titles on the list include Final Fantasy XIII, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Assassin's Creed II. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough buzz about the stellar Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, as that one sits way down in the 25th position. Yeah, that's way too low for what could very well be the best game of 2009. But anyway, those insane PS3 sales are the primary topic here, and Sony should be satisfied by this fast start. The new $299 price tag and redesigned PS3 Slim are really proving to be highly appealing to gamers everywhere.
Now, we just need to see if these good sales continue on through the holiday season. There's plenty of software to keep the momentum, so...

This is a great set-up for next year's software sales. Great move Sony. You waited to drop the price when YOU wanted to.
I can't wait til well-known IPs like GT5 and GoW3 come out. They're gonna blow games like Halo: Recon and Forza outta the water!

I think after the spike, it's going to look a little uncertain for a while... maybe even fall behind the 360 in NA sales for a bit again... and then start overtaking the 360 more and more as big exclusives come out.
Sony tends to move slowly and deliberately. But once their plans are fully in play, they get these unstoppable steam rollers going.

Sure basically if you have a Bravia TV that supports Bravia Sync you can Sync the Bravia TV remote with the PS3 Slim. By doing so you're able to use the TV remote to move around the XMB and select various things just as you would with the gamepad. It's really convenient when watching media on your PS3, whether its BluRay, DVD, or media on the hard drive or media server. Also you're able to turn the PS3 automatically on by turning on the TV. There might be a few other featuers but as of right now I don't know about them.
It sounds like a pretty simple thing but I'll never go back after using the feature.

but i hope sony speeds up the process in a FW update because it takes forever to turn the TV on.
i can turn my PS3, speakers, TV on and change it to the correct input by the time the ps3 has turned on my TV and switched the input.
its just far to slow.
and i hope they bring back the auto game start on boot up.
before when i turned my ps3 on it automatically started the game, now it just turns on in the game menu, even though i have auto disk start up on.
change those 2 with a updated friends list like that one a fan made on the playstation blog and the xmb would finally be perfect.

(kinda off topic)
I love the new 360 adverts I'm seeing! They're afraid to say that the PS3 and 360 cost the same now @ $299. They only mention that there was a $100 price drop, nowhere does it say $299. Excellent! *tents fingers*

I would guess the EU numbers are similar.
It hasn't been a full month yet, but I bet this one (partial) week alone beats any non-holiday month to date.

In the second last line of the second paragraph, I totally misread "first" and "start" together to combine "fart". I was wondering why Ben would write, "...Sony should be satisfied with this fart." Just thought I'd share that useless piece of info with everyone.
On a serious note, it's nice to see the PS3 finally achieving the sales that it's deserved since the beginning. It hardly has a break-down rate compared to it's overrated competition so why this was always looked at as the "disappointment" of the next-gen systems I will never truly understand. If it's too expensive, don't buy it. Don't knock it, though. Not when it excels in everything compared to the you-know-what Box.

Any gamer out there who still refuses to buy a PS3 because of their pride is nothing short of a fool.
Sony has bi*** slapped the competition and I for one find it hilarious.
