Madden Curse Returns, Strikes Down Troy Polamalu
Hey ESPN, you should really dig into this; we all kinda joke about the "Madden curse" but damn...it's back again, so Fitzgerald better not go high over the middle for any passes. Stay down, boy!
You probably already know that this year's cover for Madden NFL 10 features Troy Polamalu from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals; a fitting tribute to the two Super Bowl teams from last year that gave fans such a tremendous game. And what happens in the season opener between Pittsburgh and the Tennessee Titans? Polamalu goes down with a strained MCL; a knee injury that will keep him out approximately 3-6 weeks. Steeler fans are hoping he's back out there ASAP because he really is a major part of that next-generation Steel Curtain defense. And EA should really consider leaving the cover of next year's Madden entry completely blank; either that, or just feature a generic picture of a football or a stadium or something. Anything to protect the players! Oh, but if you're wondering, Pittsburgh did eke out a win in overtime (after the typically reliable Hines Ward coughed up the ball deep in Tennessee territory towards the end of regulation). So Polamalu's team gets the victory, but the rest of the defense is gonna have to step up over the next few weeks.
Seriously, some astrologer should do some research on this. The entire situation is just out of control.
