Wipeout HD Plus Fury Expansion Coming On Blu-Ray?

In our estimation, it's the single best downloadable title you can snag off the PlayStation Store. Wipeout HD is just painfully smooth fun that's worth every penny of its $19.99 price tag.

But there's a new expansion pack out for it, and perhaps to celebrate that fact, it appears Sony plans to re-issue the game...on Blu-Ray disc. That's right, according to European website PS3Hype, Wipeout HD will launch on October 16 (evidently in European regions) for the price of €26.99. You'll get the full game along with the recently released Fury expansion pack, which means that if we're understanding the conversion rate properly, that price point makes sense. You can get Fury for $9.99 at the US PSN, which would bring the overall price tag to $30. Obviously, we don't know if this is official, or if such an offer will be available in North America; after all, Wipeout HD is made by Sony Liverpool. This could be a special deal for Europe only, although it seems unlikely. Therefore, if you haven't yet bought the game off the PSN, we suggest waiting for what may be an inevitable announcement. And if that October 16 date is accurate for this region as well, that's only a month off. You just gotta own Wipeout HD if you're a PS3 owner. It's a law.

There are plenty of other great titles on the PSN, of course, but it's tough to find a comparable experience to Wipeout HD.

If it does come to North America I'll finally be able to get it.

I don't believe in digital downloads.

Anything that gets more people playing Wipeout + Fury is fine by me...absolutely. That game is amazing.

Agreed. It is an amazing game, fast, addictive, and accessible. The solo campaign is highly accessible. Although when I first played through the original Wipeout HD (all the way to the end) there was only the one difficulty level, and yes, I completed everything...

I thought that the original had already been released in Europe on BD, I remember reading about that when the game first launched. To be honest, I am really surprised it didn't get a BD release in the US, it's not like everyone has broadband access. And there is more than enough in the game for offline play to be satisfying.

I'm sure it's amazing, but thanks to Sony and their games, I have limited amount of money to spend this holiday.

If you were to get 4 exclusives this holiday, make sure this is one of them (the other three, ofcourse, being U2, R&C, GT5). Hell, even if you had only 3 to get, I'd still recommend it.

Well anyone who doesn't have this EXPERIENCE should definitely get it

It's a really fun racing experience. Even against the CPU you'll have a blast

Nice. Doesn't the UK also have Pain and Patapon 2 in physical format? I wonder why they don't offer those in the say manner here in the states.

Uh, how do you intend to play an (mostly) Online game when you have bandwidth issues?

2.5-inch SATA HDDs are cheap, and it is an easy upgrade to do yourself. Sony even has a whole web page to tell you how....

It is also coming out in Asia.

You do know you can import this even if it doesn't release here in the States.

But importing can screw you when region locked DLC comes out...

True. But you still have the original game on disc.

I have the download; but if Sony doesn't release it here, I'll import this, along with The Last Guy and Ratchet & Clank: A Quest For Booty (games I also downloaded) because, as Ben wrote so eloquently about in his commentary, I prefer to have a physical copy.

Bugger, I have already had the game and the expansion since they were released. That is pretty cool for the Euros though.

Makes perfect sense that a great game like this would come out at retail. Publishers know that physical media sells extremely well.

I bought this already from psn. I would rather have the bluray, but I don't want to buy it twice.
