Wipeout HD Plus Fury Expansion Coming On Blu-Ray?
In our estimation, it's the single best downloadable title you can snag off the PlayStation Store. Wipeout HD is just painfully smooth fun that's worth every penny of its $19.99 price tag.
But there's a new expansion pack out for it, and perhaps to celebrate that fact, it appears Sony plans to re-issue the game...on Blu-Ray disc. That's right, according to European website PS3Hype, Wipeout HD will launch on October 16 (evidently in European regions) for the price of €26.99. You'll get the full game along with the recently released Fury expansion pack, which means that if we're understanding the conversion rate properly, that price point makes sense. You can get Fury for $9.99 at the US PSN, which would bring the overall price tag to $30. Obviously, we don't know if this is official, or if such an offer will be available in North America; after all, Wipeout HD is made by Sony Liverpool. This could be a special deal for Europe only, although it seems unlikely. Therefore, if you haven't yet bought the game off the PSN, we suggest waiting for what may be an inevitable announcement. And if that October 16 date is accurate for this region as well, that's only a month off. You just gotta own Wipeout HD if you're a PS3 owner. It's a law.
There are plenty of other great titles on the PSN, of course, but it's tough to find a comparable experience to Wipeout HD.

I thought that the original had already been released in Europe on BD, I remember reading about that when the game first launched. To be honest, I am really surprised it didn't get a BD release in the US, it's not like everyone has broadband access. And there is more than enough in the game for offline play to be satisfying.

I have the download; but if Sony doesn't release it here, I'll import this, along with The Last Guy and Ratchet & Clank: A Quest For Booty (games I also downloaded) because, as Ben wrote so eloquently about in his commentary, I prefer to have a physical copy.
