Uncharted 2 Could Receive Record Review Scores
We've been telling you about the impending greatness of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves for months. And now, the first leaked review for this masterpiece has hit the Internet...and we're hardly surprised.
It seems the latest edition of French publication PSM3 magazine has already weighed in on Naughty Dog's sequel, and it has quickly popped up on N4G. As you can see, Uncharted 2 has broken the mold; it's like a damn supercar that pins the MPH needle and says, "guess how much better than the maximum number I am?" The top score a game can receive from PSM3 is 20/20 and yet, this particular title - maybe for the first time ever in the magazine's history - has pulled down an impossible 21/20 with the label of, "Monstrous." The conclusion of the article reads-
"Long, visually stunning, deep and explosive, Uncharted 2 combines all the qualities you can find in a videogame, and more! A new milestone has been reached in the videogame history."
If anyone doubts that this game could indeed be a landmark achievement in the world of game creation, they haven't been paying attention. Just about everything we've seen, heard, and yes, even laid our hands on, has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that...well, this is going to be a very special experience. Of course, we imagine an embargo date is attached to this game, so you'll have to wait a bit longer to see some official reviews. But this 21/20 is a damn good sign...

Can't wait for Uncharted 2. Boy PS3 sure is looking great this year. Did you guys hear about that one Japanese analyst saying that FFXIII alone will sell 500k of PS3 units?

What the hell are you talking? COD4 was one of the best fps ever and Uncharted was one of the best action/adventure games ever. I'm sure plenty of people (like myself) thoroughly enjoyed them both.
Can someone please coherently explain what is up with all the COD4 hate? Is it because its multiplat, or because that jackass Bobby Kotick? I don't get it. The game was fun.

Gears of War is a great series. Every gamer needs to experience Horde mode.
Does this mean I prefer my 360 over my PS3? Who cares. I just want great games. I am happy that MS came into the gaming industry because of the kick in the ass it gave Sony to get their act together. Without Microsoft, PSN would not exist.

I can't agree that MS are good for the industry, though. They've proved that they'll do anything to create a monopoly. I'd rather have Sega back (and I think VF4 is the only Sega game I own).

Seriously, I did get Gears1 (though I didn't give you the thumbs-down :), and I gave the franchise a second chance by getting the sequel on launch day. What was my conclusion? There are games that are graphically better, that pack a better single player, and have better online play (especially when compared to the sequel), but will never get the ratings or the sales of Epic's winner simply because the bloody 'bandwagon' has already left.
Did I not like Gears? They were OK. Kind of like b-movie, action movie series, that one will keep up with just to see what will happen next. Oh yeah, and there good for coop, if one is in to that sort of thing, so I hear (I don't play coop so much).
But I remember before getting the 360, I was purchasing Uncharted, and thinking that now I shouldn't worry about having to get a 360 for Gears. My suspicions where more than right but I got a 360 and Gears 1 & 2, anyways. Why? Because other than Halo and COD4 fanboys, there was no else to tell me the game was overrated, so I had to see for myself. Oh yeah, and also to play Ninja Gaiden 2, which about I was falsely informed would not be coming to the ps3, because MS published the game unlike the first one being published by Tecmo. Licensing and publishing rights doesn't work that way, apparently.
So, that's why I kinda cringe when I see hype perpetrated about the game. Some people worry about getting thumbed-down. I worry about wasting money, 'cuz gaming isn't getting any cheaper.
What's my advice? If you have a 360, then get Gears (at least a returnable used copy, and see if you like if for yourself). But don't get a 360 just for Gears, especially if you have a PS3 already. Save yourself the money. There are better games on the PS3, anyways, and plus you never know, if you absolutely have to satisfy your curiosity, Epic just might just rerelease these games for the ps3 just as Tecmo and Team Ninja did with Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2. But until then, my H2G opinion: Uncharted series has had better graphics, has had a better popcorn movie experience, and now has coop/online multiplayer. Why am I comparing the two? There're both tps's.

I also am not a fan of Microsoft (as I type this on my Windows XP PC :\ ...) or their business practices. Even though I may not like Microsoft, the truth is; What Sony and Nintendo are to the gaming industry, Microsoft is to the IT industry. They have helped push standards (even contributed some of their own) which helped with the IT boom. Many IT professionals get their start with Microsoft certifications, like myself.
Everyone keeps blaming Sony for Sega's downfall in the console business. I blame Microsoft. How many were aware that the OS in the Dreamcast was developed by Microsoft? Did anyone ever notice the form factor of the original Xbox console and controller resembled the last system from Sega? The controller layout, the directional pad, even Peter Moore! My conspiracy theory is Sega knew the competition was tough against Sony. Microsoft offered Sega a big fat check for their home console business, hardware designs, factories, and they took the easy way out.
I do agree with most of your points, especially about already having a PS3 and not need to buy a 360 just for Gears. Just go to a buddies house and play it.
Lately I have been really enjoying the co-op games and was extremely delighted to hear that Uncharted 2 will include this mode. This is just extra icing on the cake.
Back to Gears of War series... The game's plot does not compare to Uncharted's deep and compelling story. What made Gears so fun was the ability to play a game that was designed around co-op rather than having the mode tacked on like some other games (see COD:WaW). Not only did Gears 2 have an option to play the full campaign with a friend, they added Horde mode. Looking at other games with similar modes, I always loved Terrorist Hunt from the Rainbow Six games. Getting a group of friends together to fight it out with a bunch of AI enemies is a blast. I am aware COD:WaW offered Zombies, which is probably the closest people will get to Horde in Gears except, in my opinion, less fun.
I keep hoping that one day Epic will bring Gears over to PS3 that way I can play Horde on my preferred console with my friends.
Sorry about the rambling and jumping around.....

So, if the theory isn't far-fetched, which I will not deny, how would gaming, online and offline, be if MS didn't interfere in anyway? Would the Dreamcast 2 be around with it's own highly-evolved online infrastructure? Wasn't PSN on the blackboard anyways with the PS2 being released with ethernet connectivity. Or were things like the PS Store just an afterthought of Xbox Live? Did perhaps microsoft push too hard to the extent of releasing faulty, red-ringing hardware to the detriment of it's consumers? Or would we be where we are now, except we would be paying for subscription fees for the PSN? Don't know for sure.
Regarding Gears, coop is cool, but I'll get a chance to do that and with someone worth his ammo maybe only one or two weekends in a year. It also had poppy graphics and artstyle that separated it from the herd of generic shooters, and gave the MS platform a cinematic experience what a game of the same acronym did for the PS2. I even heard that MS delayed the release of the 360 to double it's RAM just because Cliffy B showed how much better Gears would look with 512MB DDRAM, and how much worse it would look with 256MB DDRAM.
Gears 2 was basically the samething with incremental improvements, and Horde. I agree the story was cliche. The Aliens are the bad guys, and we are the good guys. I guess there were some minor twists, but nothing to hold one's breath over. It was a pretty cool game, but I guarantee you, if it were released for the ps3 instead, with the same or better quality, it wouldn't have sold so well. Very much like what happened to Uncharted unfortunately.

sonys just slapping on the demo to state the game is finished.
its up for EU users.
im playing it now and has exceeded my expectations but i hope their still working on the MP because theres allot of bugs.
6 times in 2 matches ive been stuck in a wall, cover, or bookshelf.
extremely annoying.

Fanboys will always find a valid argument to support their position. An exclusive title for another platform = you can't fairly compare anything since it's not available for theirs. A multi-platform title being obviously better on another platform than theirs = that's because the developers are crappy (but mine could do the same too...or better, had it been done right!). Meanwhile, they won't accept those arguments from others while they think they're perfectly legit to use themselves. "Fanboy" = "Hypocrite"

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to 21. Look, right across the board, 21, 21, 21 and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most games go up to 20?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not 20. You see, most reviewers, you know, will be playing at 20. You're on 20 here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on 20 on your ps3. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to 21.
Nigel Tufnel: 21. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make 20 be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] This goes to 21.
