FFXIII Releases As Early As March In North America?

GameStop currently hold a June 21, 2010 launch date for Final Fantasy XIII and at the recent FFXIII Premiere Party in Tokyo, Square-Enix announced the official release date for Japan: December 17.

But now that the videos from that event are starting to hit the Internet, everyone is trying to dissect the words of Square-Enix president Yoichi Wada, game producer Yoshinori Kitase, and Sony boss Kaz Hirai. However, there doesn't need to be much "dissecting" if you watch the end of the following video, where Kitase talks about the impending North American/European release for FFXIII. We don't need to explain it in detail; just watch and learn:

We had heard before that Square-Enix wants to shorten the localization process for this project and if they can indeed hit that three month goal, it would mean FFXIII drops on US shores in March. However, this could be both good and bad: March is already home to God of War III, which could prove to be immense competition. But on the other hand, the name "Final Fantasy" has rarely failed in the sales chart department so perhaps it doesn't matter.

It doesnt matter what games released at a time nothing will stop a series like Final Fantasy.

Though i want GoWIII to :)

Well it fell from a height of 6 feet onto solid concrete twice while living in the dorms and mastering GT4. It kept on working until a year later when it passed away quietly in the early morning.

First they said June now maybe march. Next it will also come out dec 17 ( hoping at least)

It's good if it's released earlier than June, though I'd play w/GoW III first; also, rather than an earlier date for FFXIII, I'd rather get more info/gameplay on Versus XIII.

i dont know where im going to find the time as of this fall for games, every time i think of the new games i found one i forgot about.

i think 3 months would be great, maybe like you said yak4life85 we can keep pushing it, and soon get the dec 17 release ;) but even then some one would complain and say "why cant we get it before them?" theres just no pleasing everyone.

final fantasy's june release is fine. let it duke it out with another 3rd party rpg game fallout vegas. my 2 favorite rpg.

the first half of 2010 is seriously saturated. the holiday shopping for gamers is january - june of 2010. not september - december of 2009.

if final fantasy comes to spring. the other games probably would get pushed back even further. and since most of the ps3 exclusives are in the spring, its going to hurt ps3 exclusive software sales more than anything else.

bad move square enix, bad move. im already disappointed, the game is somewhat watered down cuz of the 360 version. im not very happy with ff13 to begin with. or square enix as a whole.

Amazon just updated thier release date for FFXIII to June 20th yesterday, I have had it placed on order for about 1 1/2 years now, so the sooner the better.

I agree that if it is released in March GoWIII will not slow the sales of FFXIII and vice versa.

wow, you're pretty dedicated, 1 1/2 years. I usually just preorder games the day before it releases unless theres a preorder perk i want like a demo. That way i dont have to stress about following up on announcement and such. Kindda pissed that japanese voices wont be put on disc. I dont know if its true but its most likely lack of space for the 360, not to mention microsoft would make sure that their release should be the same as the other system. However, i do know microsoft, they're trying to secure something that will be in their favor, Dont give in square enix.

Its gonna be bad for final fantasy to release close to god of war. We know theres people who will get FFXIII day 1 like me. However there are still those who are pissed with square enix for going multiplatform. So we get MAG in january, Star Ocean The Last Hope International in febuary, and FFXIII and god of war 3 in March. I dont even want to look what else games that comes out at the same time and the future cause i believe my wallets going to be KOed

Translation.

We at Square/Enix need money since a lot of our 360 exclusives bombed and severly under performed at the retail counter.

So we feel that three months is all that we can wait to begin selling our product and not that we are scared of New Vegas Fallout 3 by Bethesda comeing in June 2010 since we at Square/Enix have never heard of Fallout 3 and by the way where is the alien blaster..................sure Square/Enix what ever you say.

a friend of mine said, it was M$ plan so GOW III could reduce in sales... but it would definitively affect both, but ff is synonymous with the playstation brand..

Jesus...I know I'm going to get thumbs down for this but never in my life have I seen so many people bitching about the possibility of getting a game *earlier*. It's like S-E can do no good for you people or something. I remember endless complaints after the 360 version was announced about how it was going to delay the release of the PS3 version. Now it seems there is a possibility that we really won't have to wait long for it after all, but apparently that's a bad thing too!

Let's get some perspective here. Getting an awesome game sooner is a good thing! (Well, unless it's rushed to market and buggy, but I really don't think that's the case here, especially since we're just talking about localization time) And the release dates of all the games in that time period are quite speculative anyway.

On the contrary, people here seem to either be worried about the sales or are already committed to buying GOWIII and FFXIII. No one is really saying they don't want it asap, just that it might not be a financially sound decision. I personally don't think it's even plausible but whatever.

It doesn't matter if God of War III and FFXIII will be both released on March, both will be successful on the sales charts anyways and I'm gonna buy both games immediately as soon as they're available.

If a mass of clowns will be out spending 150 on super-duper edition of MW2, then yeah, GoWIII and FFXIII can release on the exact same day and not a one of them will feel any pain.

Final Fantasy on Playstation was spectacular. On PS2 it lost some of its magic. PS3 is a big mystery. If I have to choose between ffxIII and GOW3, GOd Of War gets my money. Squenix already got alot of money to delayed the PS3 version anyways.

hah i'm not waiting. i've imported DQIX and beat that WITHOUT knowing one character i was reading so i think FFXIII is possible too. besides i'm not sticking with English only crap. i need JP voices there....better.

Doesn't usually take about 6 to 8 months to put it into English version? That is what SE said in a comment a few months back. If you go by their comments then June sounds right. Amazon.com usually gets there dates pretty correct so I am calling this Bullsh** until I see the dates changed or SE announces it is Gold already. God of War 3 will keep me occupied until I completely finish it 100%. After that I will purchase FF13 but no sooner...but unless it releases it January which is a Hell's Chance Of Ever Happening!

The ps3 version of the game was almost done by the beginning of this year.

All this bullsh*t wait is due to the 360 development.

They probably did a lot of the translations already, or most of it.

I would not be complaining if GoWIII and FFXIII came out the same month. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday morning, I will be playing GoWIII. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday night, I will be all over FFXIII. Of course I would have to do away with any social life that I may possibly have, but it will be worth it.

What I'm really happy about in the vid is that the second guy (Motumo Toriyama) said "With the PS3, we were able to have the best graphics"
