Another PS3 Valkyria Chronicles May Depend On Sequel's Success
Valkyria Chronicles is still one of the best PlayStation 3 exclusive titles available and is widely revered by RPG and strategy fans everywhere.
This is why the hardcore fans were a mite disappointed when they learned that the direct sequel would be headed to the PSP, with no mention of a PS3 installment. At the time of the announcement, Sega said they wanted to bring this new franchise to a whole different audience and while that makes sense, it kinda seems like they're ignoring the many who made Valkyria Chronicles successful in the first place. Of course, plenty of PS3 owners also have a PSP so they can still play the upcoming sequel, but for those who have no intention of owning a PSP...well, they just want VC to return to Sony's flagship console. And thankfully, that could still happen if this PSP entry does well. Here's what Sega of America Assistant Community Manager Aaron Webber had to say over at the European PlayStation Blog:
"So far it seems like most of the fans are really just happy to see the series continue – and, if VCII sells well, it means a much greater chance that the series can pick up again back on a larger console, like the PS3.
I’ll see how the controls play when I get a hands-on with it at TGS next week. The team behind Valkyria is absolutely fantastic, so I have no doubts they’ve found a way to make it work."
Hence, if you'd like to see the series return to the PS3, maybe you should buy the PSP so you can play Valkyria Chronicles II. That would help to insure a new PS3 installment arrives at some point. For our part, we just don't know why this sequel can't come to both the portable and the home console...it would seem logical.

And yes, my problem with PSP is that I really don't have the time to sit down with one. I rarely travel, and when I do decide to play something, I prefer it on my TV. I had a PSP, but the main reason I got it was for Valkyrie Profile, since the PS1 copies were going for up to 120 bucks. I hope Sony does well enough with PSPGo to hopefully combat the piracy a little and bring more money into Sega's pocket.

If you like a good JRPG then you should buy it, the characters and mood of the story will capture you. If you like tactical games, you should buy it because each battle is a combination of strategy and tactics. No single approach works every time, you have to think - and I think you should buy a copy. If you just like SRPGs then buy Valkyria Chronicles because this is one of the better examples of an SRPG around - on any platform - so go buy a copy.
If you have already purchased the game, congratulations, now go buy the DLC on PSN.
This PSP version of Valkyria Chronicles will be a definite buy as well. One of the best things about the game - in my opinion - is that it's a game that could be done on the PSP without sacrificing anything. To be honest, I would think that it could be done on the PS2 as well, and there's 140 million of those kicking around out there...However, I'll gladly acept a PSP version and a true PS3 sequel.
Buy this game, and buy the original. Go on, do it. Do it now.
