Source: Yakuza 3 Headed West

This is great news, as anyone who is familiar with the first two installments will tell you.

It's difficult to call them "under-appreciated," simply because they released on an aging console over a year after they became available in Japan, which is why we were worried the third entry (the first on the PlayStation 3) would never see the light of day in either North America or Europe. But our concerns were laid to rest today, as 1Up confirmed that Yakuza 3 was indeed in the localization process and would break Japanese borders at some point in the future. This is according to "sources close to the project" and falls just shy of being an official announcement, but we'll take it. And hey, we've got the Tokyo Game Show in just a few days here, where we know Sega plans to announce Yakuza 4...perfect time to announce the third game for other major territories outside Japan, huh? Interestingly, Sega may not publish Yakuza 3 when it goes worldwide and the Examiner.com theorizes that it may be Ignition Entertainment. Well, we really don't care who distributes the title here; we just wanna play it!

Now would be the time to check both the Yakuza and Yakuza 2 reviews; as you can see, they're both solid games and with the benefit of the PS3 hardware, it could really excel.

I really enjoyed the first 2 and would love it to come over here, sometimes I wonder about Sega, they moan about average sales in the West when its parlty their own fault, when Valkryia Chronicles was released it was almost impossible to find a copy (Im in UK), every retailer I spoke to said they only got a few copies and once they sold em they werent getting any more. Market Y3 well and it WILL sell lots Sega!

I agree, I really want to play this game but I refuse to miss out on a game due to being heavy in Japanese dialog. Being that said an "Western" version will end up in my PS3.

From the looks in the Japanese trailers, it looks really good. I say better than GTA IV. At the very least, the hookers look prettier, not like the fat ones in GTA.

Would one have to play the first two before playing this one?

I haven't played Yakuza 3 yet but Yakuza 2 gave a very, very detailed synopsis of the events of Yakuza 1. So I'm sure even without playing the earlier ones, Y3 will probably bring you up to speed. But if you can play the first two... Do so, they are fantastic!

I played through this demo (JP store) about 3 times. The fighting in this game is awesome, and it appeases my fighting game needs. I never got around to playing the first two games, but I'll definitely be picking this game up. Even though I had no idea what was going on in the demo, it seemed intriguing.

Wait I thought these games were bad? Awkward collision detection wayward story and wierd voice acting I played a bit of parts one and two and found the combat a bit annoying and the enviorments were a little to tight. You all seem vert excited to hear this news so can someone please show me the light? I'd love to jump on this bandwagon ^_^

I'll give it that Yakuza 1 had a few hiccups with battles but Yakuza 2 completely fixed that. Even so Yakuza one was great. Fantastic story, characters, and setting. You fight in tighter spaces because you use the environment itself as a weapon.

How much did you play of them. The Yakuza series shouldn't be viewed as simple brawlers. They are RPGs, The battle system becomes broader as you progress and it really has one of the best gangster story's ever in a video game.

I am man, I really enjoyed the first one. My only complain about it was the gun-play was beyond retarded. Just awful.

This is great news. I just hope this game doesn't get release on fall next year or close to GOW3 release.

OH FOR GOD'S SAKE LET THIS BE TRUE. Yakuza 3 (Ryu ga Gotoku 3) IS AN AMAZING PS3 EXCLUSIVE. Forget English dubs...who the fu** needs them. We all have eyes (otherwise it would be quite difficult to be gamers huh?)...we should be able to read english so all we need are some subs. BUT HELL...I was going to import this anyway...but hey if this localization process is true...ALRIGHT!! SWEET! Can't wait...

I'm not going to set the dub but only the sub this give the game more atmosphere ...but you know generic gamer wants to have his games on English .

I hope they don't dub it, Subs are just fine. If everyone was speaking English it would ruin the atmosphere of the game.

And it would make bringing it over that much faster! ;)

The original voice actors have the original flavor for they character they portray so I hear ya im all for subs. (Friend of mine just schooled me on how awesome yakuza is) I plan on importing if it doesn't come soon enough something about using pink hearts to woo hookers sounds like an appealing minigame lol ^_^
