Uncharted Will Continue "As Long As The Fans Want It"

Yesterday, we learned that Infinity Ward has no intention of making another Modern Warfare, but don't think for one second that Naughty Dog will stop with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Jeff Rubenstein from the PlayStation Blog recently interviewed Naughty Dog's Amy Hennig and she filled us in on plenty of behind-the-scenes details. One of the first questions she fielded was one of the most important: "Is this the last of Uncharted?" Thankfully, the reply was, "No, Uncharted will keep coming as long as the fans want it." There's no doubt that this franchise has the staying power to stick around for a very long time, and we're plenty enthusiastic about its impending longevity (more awesomeness for us!). Check out the rest of that video interview, too; Hennig reminds us there are more adventure and platforming aspects than one might think and it's not entirely a shooter. We also hear again about those 90 minutes of cut-scenes and being big fans of great game stories, it's one of the most appealing factors in our eyes. With the unbelievable review scores rolling in, you probably don't need any more incentive to pick this game up come October 13, but more info and details can help to whet the appetite. ...or it can make you even more impatient.

Does anyone think the fans won't want another entry after Uncharted 2? Is that even the slightest possibility? At this point, it seems highly unlikely.

I can of knew that would be the case. Uncharted is turning like gears of war for Microsoft both strong and fun franchises. Hopefully the next installment has to do with monsters or something like traveling and solving the mysteries in the Bermuda Triangle that will be dope. But all we can do is wait and find out !!!! CANT WAIT FOR UNCHARTED 2 IS GONNA BE DOPE =D

Well, that's not bad, another three or four installments before it gets old? I can handle that. R&C has yet to get old and it's on game 6, or 8 depending on whether you include the PSP games.

This is GREAT news. The sequel potential is endless. There are so many different explorations and places to take this series. Especially if it continues its 2 year trend.

I could play 100 new RE games if it fit the same formula shown in 1 and 2. Slight variations are welcomed from time to time but complete overhauls in the design end up leading the series far from it's original roots and making it no longer within the same realm as the originals aka RE5. I'm addicted to Uncharted's gameplay and I don't see myself becoming bored with it anytime soon. I just hope they remember the formula set with the original and don't try anything too different in later installments.

COD and MW were generic FPS in their first try, it's no surprise years later the formula has become blah.

I agree completely, tomb raider 1,2,3 were excelent and 4 was also very good but the last couple have been terrible. I don't even know why I keep buying them. Hopefully they can get that series back on track and go back to being a 30 hour game not 5 or 6 max.
As for Uncharted, I am loving the demo/beta I have put a ton of time into it. If they keep adding onto this series with the improvements they have made from 1 to 2 I will keep buying them. Most important though is they have to keep the good story going.

Booya!!!, my sentiments EXACTLY!!!! And also as long as they don't go all Relic Hunter on us (Tia Carrere is sooo spankin hot) Also as long as they don't get stupid with it, There are lots of mythical treasures out there that they can use for storylines but as I've noticed in alot of Sequal games, the Story for the particular game seems to thin out as they get more and more games out. Now I'm not saying that game series have to follow what the last one was about or have anything to do with a previous game, But storylines tend to wither as time goes by.

I predict 3 iterations. "Why?" you ask? Because Crash Bandicoot had 3 games on the ps3 (minus the spinoff BS), Jak had 3 games (minus spinoff BS), so logically Uncharted will have 3. Though, if this generation does last longer than others we may see 4 Uncharted titles, but i think that would be enough, imo. They have shown themselves to be some of the best developers on the planet, so they shouldnt feel restricted to Uncharted.

Unfortunately when I read, "as long as the fans want it," I hear, "we will eventually run this franchise into the ground."

It should keep going for as long as they can keep it fresh, innovative, and good.

They certainly have a good track history over the past decade, I'll give them that, and I hope it continues. I just didn't particularly like the phrasing there, makes me think of a lot of franchises that started off amazing and were milked into putridity.

now all i need is a AU release date.
anbyone having problems with the uncharted 2 beta?
last night it took me like 20 minutes to connect, 20 minutes to find a game, find players than 4 times in a row once i got into the game it froze and i had to leave.
2 hours gone and i did not get 1 bloody game in.
i hope its not like that tonight.
why dont your stats carry over once the game is out?
this is just silly to me, i mean the beta is going open to everyone soon so i cant see any reason to reset everyones stats.
just annoying i see no point spending hours playing this ranking myself up, than having to do it all over again once the games out.

Nate is cool

It really matters a lot that the main character is someone one can actually relate to or like (no, not that way).

But yes, loved Uncharted1, that game is really something. I thought the ending my disappoint, but man I was shocked at how well they put the whole game together.

To beat out Killzone 2 and even GT5 really tells you something. Naughty Dog and quality are synonymous.

By the way, to those who think Naughty Dog will dull the franchise out. Well how 'bout Crash Bandicoot? and Jak? Did they dull those out?

Wouldn't you guys love a new Jak (or Crash) game?

I see Uncharted staying as strong as Metal Gear or Gran Turismo, if they feel like it.

If they drop a new uncharted on us every two to three years, that would put the next one in 2011 or 2012, and perhaps a final PS3 installment perhaps coming in 2014 or 2015. I can't see anyone objecting to a third game, and with a new game every two to three years, it will take anything up to another 15 years to hit installment number 6. I think we'll cope.

Its great but maybe we'll get tired of Nathan Drake by then. They could introduce a new protagonist in the next installment you know.

Heck I must admit am kinda upset we're gonna play SOAP again in MW2, I like new heroes.
We didn't play Cloud or Tommy Vercetti in San Andreas and GTAIV. But anyway I think Nathan Drake is a difficult character to get rid off but yet still it'd be better to have new ones.

Don't you think people were tired of seeing same ol' Lara Croft?

I would really love another crash bandicoot. I loved 1,2,3 and ctr. in fact ctr was definitely my fav.

Jak and Daxter was good and it seemed more mature.

Uncharted seems more mature than that again. It seems Naughty Dog make games to suit my aging process...spooky!!ha

...Jooke; Naughty Dog doesn't fail. Just look at Crash Bandicoot [before they sold it off] and Jak & Daxter. They know the difference between when something is still awesome & when something is just being milked, and the title of this article explains how they figure this. It's a reason why they always start off with a new franchise everytime a PS successor gets released. Kudos to them for always selling fresh fish.

I wonder when they will do in the next era...
