Full Nudity Revealed In Heavy Rain
Warning: the link in the story below leads to a video that does feature topless nudity of a character in a game.
You know, I considered starting this article a variety of ways. Something lurid and simple like, "TAKE...IT...OFF!" crossed my mind, but so did some sort of pun or joke concerning video game stripteases with full nudity. But then I figured, "eh, the video will speak for itself," and decided to move on.
There's little doubt in our minds that Heavy Rain will absolutely blow us away when it releases next year; Quantic Dream is primed to redefine the nature of storytelling in interactive entertainment media (following in the legendary footsteps of Hideo Kojima). The 2,000-page script will feature branching storylines, immense character development and dialogue, and an ever-thickening plot, which is why we're so very intrigued. But it's also rated "M" for a variety of reasons, one of them you will see right here. I don't mind linking to it but I draw the line at actually putting the video on our site, primarily because I'm aware that many of you out there aren't 17 or older. Sorry, but "M" means something to us as it does to retailers, so you'll have to deal with it...besides, how hard is it to click a link? But fair warning: what you see there really is mostly full nudity, as Heavy Rain's Madison takes it off and dances for some jackass, who she eventually smacks upside the head with a lamp. The girl is hot, but she's got an attitude...gotta love that, right?
So anyway, this is a nice little leaked gift for all you testosterone-driven males out there, and it certainly shows that Quantic isn't afraid to push the envelope a little bit. Well, in games, anyway; they've been doing this in movies for decades.

Glad someone appreciated that:)
I got home and checked it out. I am still on the fence (which is saying something if there is nudity involved), the game looks like a continuous QTE-fest and as someone who likes to spend at least two days of my weekend on my couch drinking beer and playing playstation QTEs can really annoy me if they are unforgiving and random (looking at you RE5 Wesker who broke my neck a bunch of times).

Except this has a more realistic take into it. Very classy, and no doubt is closer to being the "Citizen Kane" of gaming as we know it.

Sex has it's time and place, too...But different people differ over when and where it should be.
No one is arguing against that, and it certainly is nothing to be ashamed of. For some people, in front of a camera is just fine. And for others, even in front of a camera, it's nothing to be ashamed of as long their not the ones in front of a camera... or their mother, sister, daughter, wife, or girl friend, or anyone having any relation with them. And for some people it's perfectly natural to pay for it. While other's believe there somethings one shouldn't have to pay for. And what about artwork, like drawings or graphics? I mean they don't involve anyone...Well no one except yourself...And that's not sex.
But to each his own right, right? I mean, no one should have to have rules, beliefs, social norms, or culture not their own forced on to them, right? Well here's the problem...the culture of the majority that pervades everything eventually reaches everyone...So what happens? A culture that can be endorsed and/or tolerated by everyone will persist. For example, Sony will allow some nudity in an M-rated game, and they'll get plenty of customers who will continue to buy from them. But I highly doubt Sony will ever allow porn in their games only because they wouldn't want to tarnish their name in front of millions of households and risk losing customers all over the world... Is that being prudish? No, that just makes business sense.

Personally, I'm completely not surprised that the female lead in Heavy Rain goes topless (at lest - I can't view the link from work either). I had expected that since the first time we saw the character. The game is clearly going for a cinematic feel, and in a movie of this sort you're almost guaranteed that the director will have (and use) at least one opportunity to include nudity. So it's not exactly surprising to have that in this game. What might be more surprising is the quality of the work. Games as interactive movies is a topic that's been talked to death before, but I think we are now at the point where the line between games and movies is beginning to blur. Movies are unquestionably artistic, which leads to the whole games as art thing. If movies can be art, and games and movies are blurring their differences, then games clearly have artistic potential at least. Would any of us bat an eyelid at one of those wonderfully detailed nudes that the old masters created from skill, canvas, oil paint and an obliging model? I suspect not. So perhaps we should all work hard at evaluating whether nudity in a game is used for something besides the gratuitous titillation of the audience.

I think it'll be a few years until the younger generation starts occupying positions of elderly power and that the legitimacy of video games will probably have to wait for that to happen.

I agree with you 100%. I went to art school where we had to take life drawing classes, so there were plenty of nude models to draw. Everyone was pretty mature about the class and understood if you can draw someone nude, then you'll make them more realistic looking when you add clothing. Nudity has always been fine to me if one is mature enough to handle it.

Sort of and yet not quite. It's more a case of I cannot translate the image in my head into an image on paper. I can draw a nice steady line and curve, so drawing anime should be easy, but I have a major problem with faces, I simply cannot get the eyes/nose/mouth right, and the overall proportion of my characters is always wrong. It's very frustrating to have beautiful, pretty or simply awesome images in my head that I cannot translate into a drawing. With a still life, I can capture an object very well, proportion, shadow, everything. But portraits of real people and anime characters, basically anything that involves faces and/or bodies, are just out of my reach.

I wanted to get this but I may not now. I find this kind of nudity unecessary in games or movies. They could have got their point across without showing breasts. Like in True Lies when Jamie Lee Curtis dances for who she thought was a Frenchmen but turned out to be her husband. The scene did it's job without actually showing Jamie's goods. This clip reminds me of that part of the movie, this just pushed the envelope when it doesn't need to. Plus out of respect for my wife, I cant get this. She would not approve. =P

Maybe it'll be a sign that we've all grown up a lil and matured! More nudity in everything I say, then it'll just be normal and we won't have to make a big deal about it! But like I said, maybe someday...not today however...she's got a nice rack on her!

I respect QD for keeping it very tasteful, and also for giving the girl a realistic artistic body.
I cringe when I see some of the outrageously out of proportion women that appear in crap games that are solely directed at young teenagers.
I have planned to get this game since I heard what it was all about. The nude scene does not make me want to buy it any more or any less.
P.S. She is smokin' hot

I really believe that nudity, like swearing, is one of those things that has the power to offend only if we give it the power to offend. Many common 'swear' words are only offensive because we choose to take offense. If no one had a problem with the word sh*t then it would just be another word for the brown smelly stuff we humans are so good at leaving behind us.
Nudity is similar to this. It no one gave it the status of being shocking or offensive, or even morally provocative, then all it would be is a nude person. As tes mentioned earlier in art school you routinely have to draw/paint nudes. The models are sometimes young, and perhaps if you're fortunate young and beautiful. However they are generally older, and a little less than perfect. This is because such models present a greater opportunity for the artist to do more, and they are more of a challenge. The thing is, I suspect that the moral police would have far less problem with a 65 year old grand mother or grand father posing nude for an art class than they would if the model were 18-25 and...well...a little on the hot side. Why is that the case? It's because the folks I'm stereo-typing with the 'moral police' label are projecting their own moral judgments on the situation. Because they feel in themselves that they would have unwholesome thoughts about the you, sexy model, they assume everyone would. Because they feel in their own mind that such thoughts are morally bad, they apply that same judgment to everyone.
Nudity is not powerful, unless you consider the ability of a beautiful person to gain and hold the attention of others by removing clothing is powerful. Nudity is only offensive in the minds of the observer, everything else is a value judgment based on our own values, and we should not impose those judgments on others. I'm sure that someone will say that is an ironic statement, however I am not imposing a judgment on anyone, I am not asking for censorship of something regardless of other opinions, nor a I the one making a value judgment that the opinions of others are morally questionable. I'm more than happy for people to make those judgments for themselves though.
Final thought. My wife is very cool about things also. She understands that the aesthetics of a beautiful body are undeniable, and that men will appreciate pretty women, just as women appreciate good-looking men. My wife is secure in the knowledge that even if I look at and notice a gorgeous woman, or (heaven forbid) catch sight of a blisteringly hot nude model, I'm not going anywhere else for anything, and that I am with her and no one else. And guys, be honest, even if you are 100% committed to your partner, and 110% devoted to your partner in every way, if you see a smoking hot nude model, you'd have to be physically sedated not to have some kind of response. That much at least is hardwired into your brain at a level well below the sub-conscious.
I can honestly say that no matter how many really smoking hot women I see IRL or in picture form, my mind is completely focused on my wife for everything. My wife knows this, and this is something that is completely reciprocated, I have no questions in my mind about my wife - even when the likes of Jason Taylor or Giles Marini appear on Dancing with the Stars in an outfit that is tighter than the lycra worn by sprinters and smaller than the lycra worn by swimmers.
