Weather Conditions, Night/Day Races Confirmed For GT5
For a while there, we weren't sure what to think. Were they going to include various weather conditions in Gran Turismo 5 or not?
Well, it seems like everything has been clarified thanks to French site GameBlog, citing a recent JVN video interview with GT series creator, Kazunori Yamauchi. In the first part of the 8-minute interview, Yamauchi has confirmed the weather conditions; there will be both night and day races, and rain is most certainly returning. We'll also assume snow - for Rally races - will come back as well, so it's a definite challenge for Polyphony to recreate physical realism on all different surfaces, and at all different times of the day. That interview also reconfirmed what we had already heard last week at the Tokyo Game Show: 950 vehicle garage, 20 locations around the world, 70 total circuit variations, an entirely new physics engine, the new damage modeling, replay uploads on YouTube, enhanced GTTV and exporting between PS3 and PSP, and of course, the unlocking of certain cars in Gran Turismo PSP and the subsequent transfer to GT5. It's a definite beast of a driving simulator but without weather conditions, it would've seemed a little more...plastic, I guess. We needed the dynamic alteration of weather and time to really make the game shine.
And thankfully, it's definitely coming. Too bad we have to wait until March but we have a sneaking suspicion that GT5 will be a game that's well worth the wait.

I wonder whether the weather will be dynamic? You can start a long race at Le Mans and after a few laps a shower moves over one end of the track, while at the other it's still sunny. Or perhaps a downpour hits the whole track and then clears up 15 minutes later. The track should start dry, get wet and then begin to dry up again. You'd have to change tires accordingly.

In fact, I have yet to encounter any race sim that handled rain in a realistic way. All of them just reduce traction slightly and evenly. Presumably because almost no players would be able to drive through actual rain physics.
Consider it this way... when you're watching a pro race on TV, and it starts raining, professional drivers start running into walls without help from their competitors. If a pro driver struggles to keep it on the road, how would any but the most hardcore race sim jockeys keep a realistic simulation under control at all?

I wonder if we'll get a PSN demo around Christmas time? It could be kept small by giving us two tracks, each with a preselected car. One track daytime and raining, second track night time (rally maybe?).
I'm not optomistic it will happen but it would be nice.

I agree with the Blu Ray disc being packed to capacity, but having a genuine competitor in Forza will only continue to bring out the best in PD and the GT series team.
GT 1-4 really had no competitor. GT5? Yes. Forza 3 is a competitor to the space that Gran Turismo has occupied for so long. By no means will the F3 experience be as good as the GT5 one, but even I (a huge GT fanboy) has to admit that the car customization features and auction house in Forza 2 were impressive. It was just the rest of the game that sucked.

And I'll just say that it hasn't realllly been confirmed, as much as it has been 'spat out' by Kaz. ;)
In the GamesBlog one he was speaking to a friend that he knew and told him.
But then in the IGN and other interviews his response was hesitant and not so sure.
But dynamic weather.. is a bit too much for 6 months I think? It's weird, I'm not getting good vibrations. GTPlanet discussions FTW.
I still have hope!

The eye is 39.99 right now but it will be bundled with eye pet on Nov. 10th for 59.99
This will be the game defining feature that other games will take notice from.

my favorite card of now, and it would be nice to see the last merchilago in their from lambo.
think it was the LP640.
i love lambos, something about their shape, i would choose a lambo over a ferrari any day.
as long as i dont have to put up with the flappy paddle gearbox, that there is my pet hate.
i want to be able to change gears myself, when i put my foot down i want to go, not when the cars ready.

Give the user some sliders to control the weather. The cyclical nature of weather in Burnout Paradise results in frequent fog - much to the disgust of road time challengers everywhere.

You too Highlander.
There are so many smart-ass / smart people who'll type out the most grammatically correct essays that will crush all stupid comments ^_^
And there's ALWAYS debates that are so stupidly intricate that you'd come back here and be like "Wow and I thought PSXE had long intelligent comment wars".
Pleeeease.

Let's hope I can get back into GT5 when it launches, as I must have spent about 200 hours on GT3 and GT4 combined!

You have to take it as it is
A long demo with online
It's so "open" that it truly does feel like a full game or almost like a full game, but it's really just a demo. Compared to the monstrosity that GT5 will be, GT5p doesn't compare.
With that said, I love GT5p, the new tracks are refreshing, And don't tell me you don't love the car selection, freaking Ferraris, Vipers, TVRs, etc.
It's a very hard game on normal settings, specially if you set it to Professional (physics). But over time you get the hang of it, it just takes a lot of adjust, compared to previous to games.
