Nier The Same On PS3 And 360 Outside Of Japan
By now, most of you know there will be two separate versions for the upcoming Square-Enix action/RPG, Nier. There will be one version for the PlayStation 3 and one for the Xbox 360...but perhaps it just doesn't matter as far as gamers outside of Japan are concerned.
According to Andriasang citing the latest issue of Famtisu Xbox 360, Nier Gestalt for the 360 and Nier Replicant for the PS3 are indeed a little different, but it's best to consider Gestalt to be the "international version" of the game. In other words, we're only getting one Nier; Japan is the only country to have access to both. Executive Producer Yosuke Saito has confirmed as much, and further said that Replicant was originally created as Cavia and was deemed as most suitable for the Japanese market. Now, here's where things get a little confusing: either both versions have the same character who simply appears different in each version, or there are two completely different main characters. There seems to be some confusion about this, as you'll see in that article. But anyway, Saito did say the "game design" of both versions would be the same but due to a mysterious difference in content, you'd need to play both in order to see 100% of the adventure in its entirety. There won't be co-op play, by the way, but downloadable content isn't out of the question.
Well, this clears up a few things. It appears that it won't matter if you only own either the PS3 or 360; Nier will be exactly the same on consoles in this country.

create two different characters but call it the same title and then put one on ps3 and the other on xbox 360 to trick gamers to buy both in order for SE to gain max profit is pure greed out of dirt.

Honestly I have never understood why anyone would rather have someone who resembles the guys in Gears of War running around as their character in an RPG when they could have some pretty thing like Kos-Mos running around. Frankly, which ass would you prefer to watch running around for hours on end in an RPG, Arnold Schwarzenegger or Megan Fox? Yeah, I though so. So why do game developers think that we prefer the more macho aesthetic? Now it's even affecting Japanese games.

there changing this game thinking western markets wont like it.
where clearly thats not true.
thats what i meant, they treat western areas like there not worthy of receiving there style of things either that or they think it wont sell well and change it.
than theres asians who refuse to try anything that is not asian.
theres so many asians at my tafe and they refuse to try other food, try to get them to try pasta or a hamburger or something good luck!
like 8 of the guys in my class have ps3s but do not buy anything besides JRPGs ive been trying to convince them how good KZ2 is but they dont want to hear it.
if its not asian they dont want to know about it.

The only question is. Will the US and UK be getting the PS3 or Xbox version. Or to be precise, Neir Gestalt or Replicant.

I don't normally import games that I KNOW will be coming stateside eventually (unless there is no language problem with playing the import); but I will import games, regardless of the language barrier, that won't be coming stateside.
In this case, I wasn't planning to import Nier because it was coming to the U.S.; but now I guess I'll have to import it to get the "complete" story.

"The Japanese version of the game will have English voices and Japanese subtitles. He said that while some players here will see this and feel that the game is a western game, upon playing it they will understand that it is a Japanese game."
From Andriasang:
[note: I originally wrote here that Gestalt is the version of Nier that PS3 and Xbox 360 players outside of Japan will be getting. This was actually never specifically stated in the Famitsu Xbox 360 interview. However, it was heavily implied. See this update for more, including additional details on Nier in general]
Ben:
"But anyway, Saito did say the "game design" of both versions would be the same but due to a mysterious difference in content, you'd need to play both in order to see 100% of the adventure in its entirety."
Clarification From Andriasang:
"Saito was a bit vague on the actual differences in content between the two versions, saying that players could consider the "game design" to be the same between the two and that it's NOT the case that you'll only be able to see 100% of the game by playing both titles."

Perhaps SE will leave the English option in the game for menu text as well? Then it would be an easy decision for importers.
You know, I am completely at a loss to understand why Square Enix would do this. Their entire business in the western game markets has been with gamers who prefer the Japanese aesthetic common in JRPGs. What possible reason would they have to suddenly believe that their western customer base wants something more typically 'western'?

Sorry I don't mean to come off as rude or anything but read the article for Christ's sakes.
Everyone outside of Japan is getting the version made for the 360. If you only own a PS3 then you will be getting a ported version of the game because they are making the 360 developed version of the game the international version.
It sucks if you were hoping for a PS3 developed Nier as I was but did anyone really expect too much more from Square? Really?
So we can either suck it up and play the ported version of the game, just not buy it at all, import the PS3 version, or if you own a 360 as well then buy it for that system and play it on the system it was developed for.
Score one for Square again for taking a great idea and fouling it up.

they make japanese games and most japanese people own PS3 not 360 so it would make more sence to make it on the PS3 cause most people i know with only a 360 like FPSs not RPGs but the people i know with only PS3 like RPGs more plus the PS3 is just better and now that it selling more than before soon everyone everywhere will own it so they should make games for it so they lots of money

but if the SE you meant was the one formed after 2004, then I agree, cuz those games i mentioned were all made by Square or SquareSoft, and SE has never impressed me after they changed their business plan and started doing so called westernization
