GT5 Damage Should Be "Perfect" For Rally And NASCAR
Damage is a tricky thing if you're a simulator. A truly realistic damage modeling system is almost out of the question, simply because a scant few gamers would even be able to play it. But Gran Turismo series creator Kazunori Yamauchi will certainly strive for "perfection" when it comes to the damage on display in GT5.
When we first caught a glimpse of a busted car in the game, it was at GamesCom, but everyone noticed - and Polyphony confirmed - that it wasn't quite complete just yet. And it's further true that not all car models will boast authentic damage, as many of the available road cars will only suffer scrapes and dents. However, as far as the Rally and NASCAR vehicles are concerned, the developers wish to implement "full damage," and in an interview with Spanish website Meristation, Yamauchi put to rest any ideas of a half-assed presentation:
"I'll only say one thing. Our team of engineers did not want to do something that has already been seen in other games. No. I wanted something completely different and new. Yes, expect perfection."
Damage could easily end any Rally or NASCAR race, so we're going to have to be extra careful. We'll also have to be careful in other races as well, but the fact of the matter is that when a 200 mph car on a road track gets "damaged," it usually translates to serious problems, which almost always ends the race. Most people simply don't understand that even lightly scraping a wall at 50 mph on a turn can flatten a tire, and perhaps cause other issues, too. So it's a definite balancing act for Yamauchi and Co.; they want to be realistic, but they can't be inaccessible, yes?

so here's my research.
"omg, forza 3's going to blow gran turismo 5 away because of the damage and custom paint!! it's been 5 years already since gran turismo released a full game and obviously forza 3 is better than the 'demo' they released on their 'next generation console' last year!!! it seems that they can't release another gran turismo game anymore because it's taking forever bwahahaha!"
so, if i had the logic of the typical "forza fan"...
i would be worried as hell since polyphony never released a 'full' gran turismo game yet on a next generation console.

GT5 will not either.
Plus, I honestly believe that Microsoft has flooded the internet with paid trolls in an attempt to stop the inevitable of what GT5 will be.
A system seller, that re-defines the genre.
As long as the damage on the road cars is at the level of some other titles, I will be more then happy, especially if the race machines end up at the perfection PD is aiming for.
I honestly believe that PD will allow the user to select the level of damage to the vehicles.

From what i've seen in online videos of Forza 3 damage, it seems cars can take a head on collision at high speeds (60+mph) and somehow STILL handle and perform as if they hadn't gotten hit. I'm sorry but that is not realistic in any sense. Also the whole rewind option makes the game less of a simulator.
I have full trust in PD's take on damage for the upcoming game.

Either way, I hope the game offers a lot of controls and tweaks to the damage modeling as well as how much it'll effect the driving physics.

It costs about 150 bucks, but you can probably find a little cheaper on Ebay or something. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I've had mine for about a year now and still works great. It's probably about 100 bucks less than the G25 or G27 as far as I know.

pretty much no exaggeration there.
Best affordable wheel is the Driving Force GT by far.
Then maybe the G25 for $175+ USD if you can find one after the G27 comes out.
G25 RRP is $299 USD. So that's $600 here in NZ ^_^

There are a few photos from videogames that look as real as this:

It looks like it ripped straight from a Top Gear video (from real life graphics) =D

Most people don't have the needed time to invest in GT to make it as fun as an arcade like Burnout.
Don't need to call us fanboys ^_^
We are interested in other games too you know. Like DiRT 2 and NFS: SHIFT. And I am very interested in Forza 3. But to me it's overall presentation does not match GT's.
BTW GT5's driving will be top notch. Trust us ;)

some companys have released 3 games or so in the time PD have been working on 2.
and considering how small GT PSP is i sincerely doubt it took them much time.
with that said i think they should go as far as they can, i think they would be suprised how well people can react and deal with what their given.
they seem reluctant to push damage to far because than most people wont have the skills to play it, but it looks to me that more than enough people have the required skills.
GT has always been a hard game to play, thats why i perfected ridge racer.
i could actually win a race in ridge racer, every time i tried GT i got my ass handed to me, and racing my father well the less said about that the better.
point being they should push it as far as they can go, i think people would be more happy that way GT is a simulator after all.

i do race cars in real live & for the consoles I've always found that the GT Series feels more real when it comes to their physics, handling feedback, specific cars behavior, etc..
one thing that GT has felt short on their 3rd & 4th series is freedom of custom decals & paints designs. online gaming & normal engine swaps for certain cars.
the custom decals & paint be nice but not really needed.
the online better be good & i hope they allow us to host a game with or without damage.
it be nice if it gives the option of expert online mode which would require a G25 or G27 as the controller to allow us to join a game.
as well as endurance & drag races
rally & nascar allow you to use specific cars.
arcade online for the casual users too.
engine swaps are normal in motor sports, you take a great chassis & swap a more powerful engine from the same car maker, it doesn't matter if engine is newer or older than the car is going into. i hope this is included.
as long as it is based on swaps that have been done & proven in real live that don't upset the handling of the car. not something improper like forza putting a v8 on a chevi volt & making it 4wd.
i know GT5 won't disappoint but good lord release it already stop delaying it.
