Demon's Souls Update: NA Servers Go Live On October 6
Atlus has kept us up-to-date concerning Demon's Souls, one of the PS3's best exclusive titles of the generation. And they have asked that we apprise you of a technical fact you may not be aware of:
When we were sent the trade demo for review, we were reminded that the servers we used would only be available for this testing/review phase; when the end of September rolled around, those servers would go bye-bye. Now, the North American online servers for the regular retail release of the game become active on the day of the game's release, which is October 6. Hence, if you somehow manage to snag yourself a copy before the street date, don't be surprised to see an error message when you try to log into the servers on the PSN. As Atlus was good enough to give us that trade demo - and it seems we're getting the Collectors Edition, too; wooo! - we figured we'd help 'em out and fill you in. Bear in mind that you don't necessarily need the online aspect to play Demon's Souls, but it can certainly help. Read our review for more information, but basically, when online, you can see the bloodstains of other players, catch the ghostly outlines of those players from time to time, read helpful messages scrawled on the ground by other players, and of course, team up and tackle some of the game's bigger challenges. Therefore, you'll certainly want to test out the multiplayer, but we just wanted to make it clear that it isn't necessary to complete your quest. ...it would certainly alleviate some of that substantial pressure, though.
As the review also states, this is the RPG hardcore fans have been waiting for, so if you've got the guts to take on a truly challenging (yet highly rewarding) role-playing adventure, there's no better option than Demon's Souls.

A brand new RPG experience. So unique and innovative that it is easily my game of the year.
The atmosphere is outstanding. Its one of those powerful atmospheres like that of Shadow of the colossus.
Some of the best boss battles i've ever had too.
PvP is awesome (when a player jacks your game), i've lost twice out of about 20 battles and the rewards are great when winning!
71hrs play time, just began New Game+ and im at level 102.
Fairly hard but, when you find your correct strategy, things can become a breeze.
Best RPG this Gen by far. I wonder if WKC will be better? definitely not in terms of originality that's for sure.
If they announce a sequel, consider it my new most wanted, it's a classic new franchise and one of PS3's best games.
Truly the innovator of '09.

WKC is epic too, however, it is not unique, it is farily typical JRPG with the average looking characters, lack a bit details and coolness, altho it might be the No.2 JRPG for PS3 after Demon's Souls so far.
Next year is another story, there is FF13,FF14, and there is Resonance of Fate, and there is Nier and might be able to get FFv13 too. so excited about the fact that "true this gen" epic JRPGs are finally coming...

The uplifting narrative, fantastic Uematsu style soundtracks and uplifting art direction gives me that great feeling. WKC looks set to follow that tradition.
That town building application looks outstanding!
Obviously, i will judge when i have finished it but, yeah, Demons Souls has it locked on innovation and originality.

p.s. today I went to the EB to switch my LBP to the LBP game of the year edition, I asked the staff about the bonus artbook and music disc of the Demon's Souls Collector Edition cuz I already pre-ordered, they had it already and they gave to me, it was so cool; now I just need to go back and get the game on Oct 6, I am already reading the artbook and the disc, I am so excited. its an awesome game with awesome package.

Im in England and i just imported the Chinese version which is entirely in english (voice overs and menus etc).
Now, you could just import it from America so that you play on the American servers. Might be a good idea as i have had a lot of people add me to PSN after a great team fight or PvP only to discover we can't communicate.
Ebay has some good deals.
