Little To No Frame Rate Issues In Assassin's Creed II PS3

We have every right to be concerned about Bayonetta but it seems we probably won't have to worry about Ubisoft's highly anticipated sequel, Assassin's Creed II.

The original AC was launched during a time when developers were still having considerable difficulty getting a firm handle on the PS3's complex architecture. Therefore, while the difference in overall gameplay wasn't too pronounced, the PS3 version did have more in the way of frame rate problems in direct comparison to its Xbox 360 counterpart. Well, now that a few years have gone by - and Ubisoft has produced several multiplatform titles that are mostly identical on the two consoles in question - they're confident the frame rate issue won't rear its ugly head in Assassin's Creed II for the PS3. According to Gaming Union, Ubisoft's Stefano Petrullo said they're almost there:

"The TGS 2009 demo is almost running at 30fps consistently, and we're hoping that the final version will be locked at that rate for the majority of the game."

We're fine with this. We don't need the full 60fps for a game like this and if we remember correctly, the frame rate problem wasn't crippling at all in the original title. If the team can just nail it down and solidify it for "the majority of the game," that should translate to a fairly smooth and ultimately very playable experience. We're just interested to see all these new updates and enhancements; Ezio will be a bit more capable that Altair, remember.

I don't want to hear "we're hoping", I want to hear that it will absolutely be locked at 30fps for the entire game.

I can't understand the people that didn't like this game. I really got lost in the medieval time. Really immersive.

I paid close attention to the original Assassin's Creed. I wanted the game so badly back then, but I skipped on it when these PS3 issues were present. Sadly, after a couple years this gameplay concept isn't original anymore. I am actually not paying much attention to this game.
It is still good to know that the game issues are resolved in the PS3 version.

i thought this was running at 60.
when O when are we going to get the mythical hollywood style graphics?
GOW3 was suppose to be running 60 FPS with 1080P and even STIG said hes not sure if they can lock it at 60 they may have to go down to 30.
now im worried, if stig cant do it, who can?

Frame rate (measured in frames per second) is the rate of which the screenshot or frame refreshes itself, or animates. Just like in a flip book, the faster one flips through the pages, or "frames", the more life-like the cartoon will animate. So, a frame rate of 30 fps is the same as flipping a flip book at 30 pages per second. And a framerate of 60fps would be even smoother (which is supposed to be the limit of which the human eye can detect on average). Similarly, the slower the frame rate, the less smooth it will appear much like a Powerpoint slide show presentation running at a page every 5 seconds or .2fps. Or imagine running Crysis on lowend pc, or what happens in GTA4 when you get a lot traffic and action on screen at once.

I'm an idiot......
So in other word....low frame rate means lag like in PC?

Lag is a whole different kettle of fish and is to do with insufficient bandwidth or other network issues.

Latency is the proper name for the time it takes a packet of information to be sent from the sender to the receiver over a network. Lag is what is it generally called and more specifically when it is noticeable. If the latency is low, you don't notice any lag, the longer it takes a packet to cross the network, the more lag you have.

In the E3 demo I noticed a lot of screen tearing.

I hope they sort that out when the game goes gold.
Please make a quality game worth the 60 bucks.

IT WAS BETTER GRAPHICS ON THE PS3 VERSION than the 360 on AC1 but better frame rate in 360

I thought the PS3 was supposed to be more powerful than the 360? Why do I keep reading how games look better and run faster on the 360? A recent comparison video on gametrailers.com for Bayonetta clearly show the 360 version looking way better. I know a lot of you will disagree with this, but I didn`t spend $600 to be satisfied with a lousy 30 frames-per-second. If Sony doesn`t fix this problem soon I`ll be putting my PS3 on the auction block and sticking with the 360 instead. Maybe I`m just old and contrary, but "good enough" isn`t good enough for me anymore.

buy exclusive ps3 games those are the only games worth buying. multiplatform games are better on the 360 most of time because because the developers are too lazy to make a good port or make a good ps3 version

if you think ps3 isn't better than the xbox 360 there must be something wrong with your mind or you haven't played games like metal gear solid 4, killzone 2, infamous, uncharted:drake's fortune, uncharted 2: among thieves, and resistance 2 those game prove that the ps3 is way better than the 360

whenever i read about how the 360 does certain games better than the ps3 i get mad as hell about it. the comment i wrote earlier was written during one of those mad as hell phases, i guess. I`m just like every other ps3 owner out there. i want games on the ps3 to be just as good (or better) than their 360 counterparts and when this doesn`t happen none of us should accept it. the ps3 does have some incredible games that show how powerful this system really is (MGS4, Killzone 2, Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted 1 & 2 and the Resistance series, for example) but something has to be done about 3rd-party developers not being able (or willing) to get the most out of the ps3. i honestly think most 3rd party companies look at the ps3 as an afterthought. Bayonetta is a perfect example of this. the game was originally developed for the 360 by Platinum Games who then turned the ps3 port over to Sega instead of doing it themselves. i believe this is an example of how developers just don`t care about the ps3. sure they want our money, they`re just not willing to work very hard for it. Let me hear your opinion on this, but please try to keep your comments civilized.

well i really don't care about third party developers because right now the only third party game that I'm interested on is modern warfare 2 and i know that even if all mw2 videos shown have been on the xbox 360 version infinity ward is not one of those lazy developers that just makes one version of the game and just leaves the port to another developer. We should also remember that developers and publishers are companies and they only care about the money and not about us

Well good, I noticed in the first AC the framerate could never stay solid, it was something that really bothered me. Although "hoping" and actually making it happen are entirely different I know the second edition will be awesome. I'll be getting the Black Edition so bring it! Honestly, I don't believe screen tearing, or framerate issues will be except-able for this, by now everyone finally has become to or understands the PS3, so no EXCUSES.
