Yamauchi Eyes The Competition "From A Distance"
With Forza Motorsport 3 pulling down high review scores and racing fans forced to wait until next year for Gran Turismo 5, one might think GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi would be a little rattled, or at least anxious to prove his creation is superior.
But that has never been the man's style, and his recent words prove he's both calm and respectful; he's not losing sleep or biting his fingernails while examining the competition from all angles, but he's aware of it. Basically, he wants to get an overview of something like Forza 3 but rather than making quick comparisons to GT5, he simply looks at it as an interested developer would view a similarly ambitious project. Here's what Yamauchi had to say to NowGamer:
"Well, of course, I keep my eye on them from a distance. My observations tend to more often than not centre on, 'Oh, so they're concentrating extra hard on this', or 'oh, so they're not worried about that', or 'they've really got a lot of passion for that'. All my observations are first-impression sort of things. I don't look at the games in too much detail. Just a one-glance observation is good enough. I think about what they're trying to do, how much time they're spending, how they're going about putting the game together, how do they feel about the game as they're making it… that sort of thing."
It's always interesting to learn about how developers check out the competition, but we're certainly not detecting any nervousness in Yamauchi's words. There's no doubt that Forza is well worth the time of any racing enthusiast, but there's also no need to worry about GT5. That too will be an amazing - perhaps even a redefining - driving simulator.

That's how good GT games are. Still a great looking game, truly amazing they were able to pull off such complexities on the ps1. While it's not as realistic as GT3 and on, it still uses technique/skill.
Oh yes, 'bout what Kazu said, well he's right obviously. I don't stare at 360 games either. I just see them at a store and go "oh so that's the HALO: STD game? Interesting" lol

I think alot more could be done with hardware, even the Wii. I think the hardware can generally be pushed harder and I expect we will see better looking games all round on the Wii, 360 and PS3 in the following years to come. Each will shine in its own right... that is of course, if the developer in question wants to make it so...
I was impressed with the results from Dead Space Extraction on the Wii, shows what one can do with your "basic" console.

i really think he should take a deeper look into forza 3.
if i was him i would of finished the game already picking it apart and comparing it to GT5 and see what i could improve on.
he seems a little to relaxed to me and im worried release day will come and we will start seeing parts where gaps were let slip because he underestimated his competition.
yea turn 10 are arrogant a$$es but that does not mean they dont know how to make a good game.

But I can almost sense, that the wait will be worth it. You have to be informed with all the recent interviews to get the vibe I'm getting. It's almost ridiculous.
