Pachter On Brutal Legend: "It's Going To Be Profitable"
You know, we've been telling you to pay attention to Tim Schafer and Double Fine's Brutal Legend for quite some time now. Yes, it launches today alongside the insanely awesome Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, but Shafer's metal-infused title already snagged a 9.0 from IGN and should be worthy of your attention. Most all Schafer's stuff is.
And thankfully, this time around, the gamers might finally reward him. It has been this guy's unfortunate tradition to produce great games that go nowhere on sales charts but Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter says Brutal Legend finally pays him back. If you check out the latest Bonus Round Episode, Pachter is confident the anticipated title will sell well, despite being tossed amidst some blockbuster October productions:
"I think this thing’s going to be the sleeper hit of the holiday season. When I say that I mean a couple million units, so it’s not going to be Gears of War type numbers. It’s going to be a profitable game and it is a little bit on the niche side except Jack Black makes it much, much more mass market."
You know, in all honesty, we didn't really think of that. We've wanted Brutal Legend to make an impact since we heard about it, and we did worry about the niche metal flair. But Jack Black does help to bring the game to more people and besides, we're seeing that commercial for the game quite a bit. So maybe - just maybe - Schafer will reap the benefits of his hard work.

It sounds to me like the demo wasn't really representative of the meat of the gameplay. Open world? RTS elements? There was nothing like that in the demo. Now I'm even more confused about what the gameply is supposed to be like.

most of the time demos are a very bad portray of a game, thats why devs dont like doing demos.
i loved the demo of haze, we all know how that turned out.
i HATED the demo of uncharted made me frustrated.
i hated the demo of infamous.
i hated the demo of ninja gaiden sigma 2.
but after buying the full version of all those games im glad i did.
if your not sure on a game, play the demo if the games not out.
if it is rent it, dont pass on the game just because you did not like the demo.
if i did that i would of missed out on some of my favorite games.

Lol.
Those are my favorite lines in the demo, when you hit the action button with no weapon in hand. I could listen to it all day
Gotta get a weapon, I'm unarmed!

I've only seen BL for $70, which is 80 after tax. Retailers need to stop that new price testing, I don't care if they costed 60 for a decade it's still plenty today. I refuse to pay that much for a game just as I refuse to pay 30 bucks and up for a bluray.

Unless Demon's Souls sells well (and with so few copies in stores, how can it?), it won't be a sleeper hit.
Batman: AA is a perfect example of a sleeper hit. No one expected the review scores or the eventual hype it received and it sold MUCH better than anyone could have predicted six months ago.

weird, like i was not going to get infamous, the gameplay and videos looked boring to me but now its my favorite game this year.
i was not going to get this because its on the same day as U2 and opp2.
but some how i managed to get brutal legend and opp 2 on the 10th of october, 5 days before their release.
and so so so glad i did because if they kept their original date i would of missed out on brutal legend.
one complaint though.
jack black swears to much.
make sure you dont have your granny visiting while playing this, otherwise you will be missing a ear or 2 and you will have a very sore red toung.
i hope you like english mustard.

I liked the demo, there's some God Of War mixed with some simple RTS. Yes, I'd rather have Demon's Souls but that game is sold out everywhere in Ottawa so Brutal Legend is a great fallback game.
