Naughty Dog On Uncharted 2 Acclaim, Strong Female Characters
Can't get enough of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, can you? It launched yesterday to hordes of anxious gamers everywhere, and it has already established itself as one of the best-reviewed titles of all time.
The question is, did Naughty Dog anticipate this kind of reception? Did they think this sequel could go down in history as one of the finest video game experiences ever? Well, head on over to the PlayStation Blog and listen in on the live chat that went up yesterday afternoon; it's well worth a look. Lead Game Designer Neil Druckmann and Lead Programmer Travis McIntosh were on hand to answer some pressing fan questions, and they also proved to be quite humble concerning their new-found glory and acclaim. Said McIntosh:
"We knew we had something special while working on the game, but did we expect the critical recognition we've been getting? No, when you're as close to a game as we are it's far easier to see the flaws than the full picture. It wasn't until near the end when the story and the cut scenes finally came together that we realized that the game was as good as it was."
Druckmann added that it's "so gratifying" to have completed the game; the two even went to some midnight launches and spoke with the fans. That must've been rewarding in and of itself. Druckmann also spoke a bit about how this game seems to appeal to more girls than expected, but it was part of the team's "motivation in creating such strong, well-rounded female characters." And when we really look at it closely, we come to realize that he's right: sure, the females are attractive in the game but they're no-nonsense, reasonable, and intelligent people who are also interesting characters. Yeah, they didn't do much wrong with this one.
P.S. Just lie in wait until we announce the final location of the Treasure Chest for our Fortune Hunter Edition giveaway. Some time later tomorrow...first on Twitter, then here.

The question really......why a AAA game getting very high score doesn't sell much:
(Got this info from VGCharts)
1)inFamous still haven't reach 1million
2)Killzone 2 still haven't reach 2million
3)With all the awards it got, MGS4 didn't reach 5 million
I mean seriously........with more than 20 million PS3 owners.....why is it GOTY-material games(I think it's only PS3 exclusives) aren't selling like they supposed to?
And now ND are hoping Uncharted 2 to sell more than 2.5m? Dude, with a top quality game like this it should sell like 5m at least.......

I think your expectations are too high. Only 6 360 games (and 1 PS3 game) have sold more than 5 million copies (Halo 3, GTA IV, Gears 1+2, COD 4+5); if that's your standard of success, you're setting yourself up for some disappointment. In fact, only 8 "next-gen" games have outsold MGS4 (the others are AC and GHIII). You simply can't base your expectations on Halo numbers.
Moreover, only 15 360 games (and 9 PS3 games) have sold more than 2.5 million copies, so that would be tremendous success. Also, companies try to keep their sales projections on the low side, to make sure that they hit them. I think Uncharted 2 will do better than that, though.
Even 1 million copies sold is very good, certainly enough to make a game profitable and likely enough to qualify it as a "greatest hit" (depending on the regional distribution).
inFAMOUS deserves to sell more copies than it has, but it is hardly a failure. Killzone 2 is an unqualified success.
p.s. I need to wait until next Saturday before I find out if I got Uncharted 2.

1) MGS2 sold more than 8 million
2) MGS3 sold more than 6 million
3) GT series all sold more than 8 million
Although disappointment is from GOW which despite being a very bad ass game only managed 2 million something.
@World
Yea, it's considered a crime to not own those games while owning a PS3.
