Madden NFL Arcade Pummels PSN/XBLA In December
Madden has always been a great football franchise and this year's installment marked another step in the right direction after 2009's rejuvenation. But perhaps you're just not into the depth and intricacy of a sports simulator.
Maybe you prefer something like Madden NFL Arcade. As revealed by Joystiq in an e-mail from EA, the less realistic but more accessible arcade-based football title will hit the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in December. The publisher describes this series iteration as "fast-paced 5-on-5 football...it's a classic backyard scenario - first to 30; 4 plays per possession; no penalties; no field goals - draped in NFL glamor." For those of you who are familiar with EA's 3-on-3 NHL Arcade game, you'll get the gist right off the bat. Instead of a 100-yard field, you'll get a 60-yard field; instead of uber-authentic player design and movement physics, you'll get a cartoon-y visual style and 13 power-ups known as "Game Changers." Want to get to the QB? Enlist an army of linemen for one play to almost guarantee your desire. Heck, you can even freeze your opponent where he stands. This fun little title will support up to 4-player co-op on a single console or 1-vs-1 in online entertainment, and you can nab it for only $14.99 when it finally arrives.
Not everybody likes simulators. Some people just want to kick back and hit, throw, and score touchdowns. Ain't nothin' wrong with that.
