Uncharted 2 Sales Estimates: 1 Million Sold In First Week
You know, considering that the original went unnoticed for far too long, it's not too much of a stretch to label Uncharted 2: Among Thieves as a second new IP. After all, a great many people are jumping on the Drake bandwagon for the very first time.
Back in late 2007, nowhere near as many people owned a PS3 worldwide and something like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune just didn't burn up the sales charts like it should've. However, the sequel seems to be making up for lost time: according to VGChartz, the early estimates for sales of Uncharted 2 are pretty impressive: the game sold nearly 300,000 units in the Americas on the first day of its availability, and worldwide, it could be as high as a half-million. This would make Naughty Dog's unbelievable game the 3rd-fastest selling PS3 title to date (behind Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots). First week sales are estimated to be somewhere around 1 million units and in direct comparison, the original Uncharted only managed to sell 135,000 copies. Like we said, a great many missed out on the original so it's almost as if we're kicking off a new franchise for the second time; we can't wait to see how many copies Uncharted 3 might sell! You know they're gonna start work on it eventually, and you can be sure that this time, millions will be paying close attention.
For our part, we think this game deserves to sell millions upon millions of copies; it's just too good to be missed.

OT, Uncharted 2 deserves high sales. I hope it stays in the top 10 in sales WW until at least the end of the year, because this game deserves it, and hopefully there are enough new PS3 owners to keep this game in the top 10 with the PS3s new price point. I just want to say that ND really knows how to immerse players and get them into the game right from the start. I haven't felt this immersed in a game from the start since MGS4, and that is saying a lot since I am a huge MGS fan and although I love Uncharted the game just didn't grab me the way MGS or the God of War games did and Uncharted 2 did just that the moment the single player game started and hasn't let up yet. Truly a well put together and highly polished game. Added multiplayer, which is surprisingly tactical (just wasn't expecting it to be tactical although the controls from the original should've told me otherwise), and a cool theater experience to replay previous multiplayer games. So far from my experience with the single player aspect, that alone is worth the $60 to buy the game.
P.S. sorry for the wall of writing, I just wanted to express how great this game has been for me and how much, imho, ND has improved since the first game.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
A treasure, indeed
by ima_gin_e
This Review's Trust Rating: 0 0
January 13, 2008 - A highly underrated game, simply because it lacks multiplayer. However, if you play the game on the higher difficulties, you can see how they made up for it.
The enemies seem alive, and the npc allies cooperate very well (they draw fire, and occasionally die on the harder settings if you don't protect them, too).
The story and cutscenes are nothing short of film standards, and indeed are just as entertaining.
The graphical splendor never gets old, and never ceases to amaze me, everytime I load the game. I haven't seen a game that contains this level of graphical detail, yet maintains an equal level of art direction. The frame rate is not 60 like Ratchet, more like 45, but it is locked-in, and makes up for it with brilliant imagery that I have never seen in a console game before.
As for the sound, it is impeccable, with wonderfully suitable orchestra bg music, hilarious in game character- commentary, and immersive sound effects.
As mentioned before, nothing short of the rest was delivered regarding the gameplay. Some criticisms have been made in regard to the control, such as the speed of aiming. These critics have simply haven't taken the time to see the developers of the game never missed any detail. For example, people complain of the speed of aiming in fp mode. They haven't realized that you can center your view quickly first, and enter fp mode to make precision shots. In this same way, you can even aim your blindfire. And when in close-quarter combat, the game auto aims for you when shooting from the hip or run-and-gunning. Some people have complained of the length of the game, just because they blew through the game at "easy" settings. But if you play through the game on all difficulty settings, and manage to achieve all the treasures and achievements, you will see, indeed, how long this game will last you, and how it never gets boring.
A lot of attention was put in this game in every department, and I think it was only because of time-constraints (especially with all the pressure from sony) that multiplayer was missing. But if anyone has gotten a chance to check out the gallery, a room of servers, suggests we will be getting even that in the sequel. It may seem that I am defending this title as a 'fanboy', might. Really, I'm only showing that infact any weaknesses that may be apparent in this title, were not overlooked by the developers, and were addressed. Worth the price on a new title, and then some: Uncharted Drake's fortune is an uncharted fortune and a must-by.
10.0 Presentation
A level of polish that is rarely found in pc or console games, alike.
9.8 Graphics
The framerate isn't 60, minor screen-tearing, and occasional late texture-loading, but these are the only 'flaws' that I can think of keeping this game from a perfect 10 in this department.
10.0 Sound
Wonderfully clear and immersive. No fault to be found here.
9.5 Gameplay
The driving sequences seemed rather weak as compared to the depth in play of other situations, and the lack of multiplayer may irk some folks, but what it does, it does remarkably, well.
9.6 Lasting Appeal
A single player without multi coop, and no online multi, either, but wonderfully replayable it is. A hidden classic that is ironically well-named.
9.7 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

got the limited edition and all its only a cardboard sleeve to go over the game.
thats limited edition?
i would of thought there would of been one like infamous, that was sweet! and i was hoping they would have a making of scenes in there like batman AA had.
o well the games fuc**ng awesome!
i literally shat my pants on the opening cut scene where your climbing the pole and a massive rock knocks you down.
im up to the train chase just before you flash back to the start, and am kinda disappointed.
the opening cut scene has so many O SH*T parts in it, but every other part is meh.
in the opening cut scene drake gets the crap beat out of him, but in the other action scenes your just running away from something.
it just feels scripted, like yea typical Hollywood.
like a building explodes 2 seconds after you escape.
the opening cut scene had consequences showed you your not unstoppable things dont just miss you by 2 mm but every one after that, is exactly what happens.
best part of the game though is not the action, nor the graphics or sound (which is fuc**ng amazing)its drakes sense of humor.
like where he falls in the pool than starts teasing chloe playing marco polo.
or where you get up to the first puzzle.
come on in the waters fine.
no you just want to see my shirt wet.
or nice parking job.
not only drake either, in the stealth mission drake misses a jump your mate saves you than says no more donuts for you.
never has a game made me laugh so much.
thats the best part of uncharted 2, its like heavy rain.
it makes you feel so many emotions.
anger (you will know why dont want to spoil it)
joy because drakes a smart a$$ like me.
fear when your half way off a cliff with rocks hurling towards ya.
anxiousness when your on top of a train and a tunnel is hurling towards ya.
and god knows how many others, and im only up to chapter 13 i think.
kinda disappointed though, ive only been playing for 5 hours and im already up to 13.
seems really short to me, but than while playing on crushing im sure i wont be complaining.
thats going to be fuc**ng hard, not looking forward to it.

this reminds me of when the ps2 came out and things were a little slow at first with the really bad ass games but then there was like a flood and sony had one bad ass game after another. granted the ps2 took less to develop on and games now have longer cycles so its taking a little longer to build up. think of 2016 when the ps3 hits its ten year mark...
and as i write this i see another uncharted 2 commercial ;) Sony is on a roll. Naughty Dog has really proven they are top dog.

We are coming up to the 4th year of the PS3, and I believe that now Sony will put it in overdrive. The competition better watch out. Microsoft should be scared crapless at this point in time. And with Wii sales slowing down quickly, with Sony's train barrelling down the tracks now, nothing may stop it.
With mega hits Ratchet and clank, Heavy Rain, GT5, God of War 3 upcoming soon, I think Microsoft will be fighting tooth and nail for every little bit of space they can achieve. And just like a pack of Wolves, Sony is soon gonna circle around their prey for the definite KILL.
Like i said before MGS4 and KZ2 rendered the 360 obsolete. Unchartered 2 is the final nail in the coffin. Sorry 360 fanboys, time to buy the REAL NEXT GEN SYSTEM PLAYSTATION 3!!

Imagine my 'delight' when I found that the digital treasure map helped be find exactly 6 out of 100 treasures, 6 that I'd already found...I don't care who says what, this pre-order bonus from Amazon was a crock of....you get the idea. I won't make that mistake again, no more pre-order from Amazon for me.

I couldn't wait for the sequel, and it of course lived up to my expectations, and then some.
With such a difference in sales though, you have to figure that a lot of people that bought Uncharted 2, but haven't played the original yet (for some strange reason), will certainly go buy the original after finishing part 2, just to experience more. We can never have enough Drake, right? :)
So as good as part 2 is, it should certainly increase the sales of part 1.

All I can say is that if this game doesn't get Game Of The Year (and unfortunately I reckon Modern Warfare 2 will get it), then I can't think what else Naughty Dog need to do to ensure that this franchise gets the recognition that it so deserves. A huge improvement over an excellent predecessor, I'm already looking forward to installment 3 :)

Along with Demon's Soul, hopefully
Other than MGS4, I think this game is the epitome of this current gen.
Though Infamous gets great praise from me thus far
Whoa! Can't forget LittleBigPlanet!!!
