Borderlands First DLC: "A Full-Fledged Expansion"
Downloadable content has been huge this generation and the more developers indulge us, the more we come to expect it. Heck, we even want the announcements before the game is even out!
According to GameSpot, Gearbox Software has revealed the first add-on pack for Borderlands, which is scheduled to launch this week (on the 20th) for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Apparently, this is a true-blue expansion called "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned" and will cost only $9.99 on the PlayStation Network or 800 Microsoft Points on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Not surprisingly, the undead will be shambling all over the place on Zombie Island, and players will team up with the loopy scientist in question and try to recapture his hellish creations. You'll also get to explore an entirely new region called Jakobs Cove, so there will be plenty of extra gameplay. This is only the first of many pieces of extra content we can expect for this promising FPS/RPG, so it's good to know that we'll definitely get our money's worth. Hopefully, the game will be well worth the price of admission; we like its unique style and expansive scope, so it might just appeal to a great many people. The DLC detailed here will arrive "later this year" and we'll let you know when there's a solidified release date.
Yeah, it has to battle the rest of the insane October lineup, but you'll have had a week to beat Uncharted 2...that's enough, right? Gotta move on eventually.

As for cutting content for extra money...
Sometimes developers really want to release something they couldn't fit in the game. Dragon Age: Origins will have launch day DLC because a certain character--and its side quest(s)--was cut due to time constraints. Part of the Bioware team really wanted that character in the game so they formed their own mini team to bring the character to the masses. The only practical way to due that, apparently, was DLC. Besides, we'll get it for free if we buy DA: Origins new (correct me if I'm wrong on that).

Count me out, I'll never ever ever ever buy DLC.
I buy a game, I just play it, developers release new map then screw it, I don't care.
I know I'm gonna get thumbs down for this but I'm gonna say it, DLC is the lowest thing any developers could do.
Even if it's cheap, it's still money.
Why release things one by one if you already have it ready?
