PlayStation 3 Outsells Wii & X360 in North America
The numbers we've much anticipated are finally here. After a 5 day delay, NPD has released hardware sales data for September, which tracked from August 30th through October 3rd. This data includes a week of Nintendo Wii sales at $199, the first full month of sales of the PS3 Slim at $299, two weeks of Halo ODST sales for the Xbox 360, a full month of sales for the Xbox 360 Elite at $299, and a meager two days of PSP Go sales. So how does the picture look?
Well, thanks to the much anticipated Slim model, the PlayStation 3 came out on top by a sizable 29k units ahead of the Nintendo Wii, which may indicate a rather epic battle brewing between both Sony and Nintendo yet again. More over, the PlayStation 3 outsold its main competitor, the Xbox 360, by nearly 140k systems, and that's despite the release of Halo: ODST, which took in a massive 1.5-million sold. Now, the PSP's sales are harder to gauge because of the limited time-frame this data captures following the PSP Go's release. With only two days of sales, we can say this much: for August 2009 the PSP sold 140k units. And if you look at September's data, the PSP sold over 190k units, a good 50k units higher.
The problem is this: can that 50k be attributed to the release of the PSP Go? Or the 5-week tracking period for the September data, as opposed to the 4-week track for August? I'd like to say it's the former. But we'll just have to wait for October's results to see if the PSP Go truly did provide some much needed momentum for the PSP brand.
Nintendo DS 524.2K
Sony PS3 491.8K
Nintendo Wii 462.8K
MS Xbox 360 352.6K
Sony PSP 190.4K
Sony PS2 146.0K

I was thinking that to seriously consider a PS3 you would want to have the following: an HD TV (~$700 and up), a few games to play ($120) and decent internet connection (~$50/month). If you could afford these three things then a hundred bucks give or take on the system wouldn't be that big of an issue.
It could also be that a lot of the uber titles are starting to come out. It will be interesting to see the impact of GoW3 and FFXIII on PS3 sales.

Nintendo has several fantastic game franchises and some of the most recognisable characters. While the Wii isn't anything spectacular, Mario, Smash Bros. Zelda, Metroid, No More Heroes, they are all excellent games.
And Wii Sports is fun for parties.
Natal will go the way of the Wii, exciting at first but will die down quickly once people are sick of it. I really don't see how Halo or Gears will be able to incorporate it.

I hear that's the first time ps3 outsells both the wii and xbox since the ps3 launch in nov 06. I hope it's not the last time.
@ potato
I didnt even think about that. The wii barely got beat and they only had a week worth of sells with the price cut. Next month the wii will outsell the ps3 easily. I just hope the ps3 outsells the xbox all through the holiday season.

And 74% of all statistics are made up.
So, basically, parents and casual gamers have wasted about 300-400 bucks on DS upgrades, trade ins and cheap shovelware games. I'd hate to have one of them as my financial advisor.

Wasn't the Halo RPG idea already being thrown around at some point? I thought I read something about that.

but only 3000 sales, because people have known for a while a new psp was coming out so they waited out to see what its like.
than realized its a overpriced piece of ..............
and went back to the 3000.
i remember watching a video at E3 showing off the psp go, and the interviewer asked this lady from sony why they did not add a second nub.
and she replied because of compatibility, they want one in and she promised the next psp will definitely have one.
so that leads me to believe the next psp wont be a revision because than her argument why the go dident have one would be false.
for her statement to be 100% true the next psp must be the psp 2.
a full remake, not a revision.
after seeing that article about the "supposed" components for the psp 2 and next DS.
well it looks like the psp 2 is not far off at all.
as one said, its a gift and a curse.
gift because i sure as hell want one.
psp games in HD?
YES PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but than theres going to be allot of people who are not to happy about it, and well you know the media.
they will dig till there fingers bleed to find anything bad to say about anyone.
so let the sony witch hunting commence!

A long running exclusive franchise will boost the sale just like MGS4 did, yes GT5 and GOW3 next year but they'll need more than that if they wanna beat the Wii.
Though in my opinion, Nintendo has already won the 7th Gen.

Over in Japan, the Wii snapped the PS3's two-month streak by topping the PS3 in sales for September, albeit by just a paltry number (something like 10,000 units or so).
Yep, Sony only needed a price cut, just like many of us Sony Supporters have been calling for.
