Halo Wins, Beatles Debut Strong, Confusion Abound

So looking at the software data released today by the NPD caused me some confusion. There's no PS3 Beatles: Rock Band in the top 10, while the X360 and Wii versions are. On the otherhand, there's no Xbox 360 Batman in the top 10, while the PS3 version is. Guitar Hero 5 for the X360 barely cracked the charts, but the rest of the platforms didn't. Thankfully, a few additional details leaked out and we were able to find out the answers to our confusion.

First, take a gander the chart below. Halo: ODST placed number one as we all expected. The other thing worth mentioning is the sales of Madden NFL '10 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as the two versions continue performing well enough on both sides. Moving on, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 for X360 charted at number seven, but nowhere to be found for the PS3. Same goes for The Beatles. Oddly enough, PlayStation 3 sales of The Beatles: Rock Band were poor, a mere 132k sold. Compared to the Wii and X360 sales, that's very weak.

But, thanks to the exclusive content of the PlayStation 3, being able to play as the Joker, it seems that really helped the PS3 version of Batman outsell the Xbox 360 game by just over 10k units - not exactly a massive difference, but it goes to show that notable exclusive content helps drive sales. And lastly, tallying up sales for Guitar Hero 5 across all consoles brings the total to a pretty meager 500k units sold.

Ouch.

Can't wait for next month, to see where Uncharted 2 will be stand.

Anyone else think Uncharted 2 will be number 1!

For me I think it will.
Owning a PS3 but not Uncharted 2 is a video game crime.
A great console without great game is just like sushi without wasabi.

I dont like ODST. I still think Halo 3 is fantastic fun but ODST just doesnt do it for me.
Uncharted should definitely be in the number one spot.

I thought the story of ODST was a good idea but it didn't appeal to me that much, i mean when you think of halo you think of Master chief. In my opinion, both halo 2 and 3 were okay, the stories weren't all that great and don't even get me started with the AI in halo 3...purely absurd. If anything what sparked such hype over the halo franchise was the amazing online play. Now don't get me wrong, let me clarify, the halo franchise is without a doubt an incredible franchise to begin with, but to me, the first halo still stand out above the others. I mean the immersive story at the time which surprised everyone, and not to mention the game which revolutionized online play. I believe Uncharted 2 should take the number 1 spot on the next poll, it's just to incredible.

I was having a great time plowing through the ODST campaign with a couple buddies of mine... and then it was over in like six hours. That should have cost 20 bucks, NOT 60. I really enjoy Halo, but it's not even the best space marines vs. aliens game on Xbox -- Gears of War holds that distinction, easily.

I'll be interested to see where Halo goes from here. The ODST gameplay felt kind of silly and dated compared to Killzone 2 or Gears of War, quite honestly.

I think the PS3 Rock band thing is because most ppl who own PS3 know the gaming industry. They're not you're under 16 crowd or over 40 crowd.

The Beatles games was (IMO) marketed to the non-gamers heavy, which isn't aligned with the US target market for the PS3 (that doesn't mean that the PS3 Beatles didn't kill in EU...SingStar anyone?). I think ppl with PS3s got Rock Band Beatles on other consoles like the Wii. I know I would if I had one. The Wii's a party console. Rock Band's a party game. Crank your Wii out to entertain the house guests. Bust out the PS3 for real games. END.

Now all that's left is for Uncharted 2 to sit on top of October's charts...Then the US transformation will begin. Sony is back on top in the US and M$ is back to a niche product.

Does anybody else get the feeling that Uncharted 2 will outsell Halo: Recon for the holiday season?

Xbox games don't sell all that great in the long-run (The Hare). PS3 games do (The Tortoise).

don't quote me on this either, just personal opinion, but they're just milking the cow out of the halo franchise until they release a full fledged sequel (number 4) for the next xbox to drive sales =P

I won't disagree that they're milking Halo with ODST but Halo Wars was a damn good game in its own right. It's just too bad Essemble couldn't have gone out on a franchise of their own.

no doubt about it. Nothing wrong with spinoffs, necessarily, but yeah, ODST cost as much as Halo 3 and didn't offer NEARLY as much. Total cash grab.

Gaw I really don't understand the love for Halo. The other day I went to my local target, some geek working there was talking to his co-worker hating on Uncharted 2. Making fun of the puzzles and platforming. He said "Master Cheif don't let puzzles get in his way". I almost spit ice tea everywhere.

I don't know what his problem was. Any rational person can see Uncharted 2 is miles better.

Well, the sad truth is that a high percentage of American male gamers can't get into any game that isn't sports, racing or another FPS fragfest. Out of all the people I work with who have PS3s (about 5 or 6), I'm the only one who has Uncharted 2, all they can think about is MW2 or any game similar. No matter how much I try to convince them, they never even downloaded the demo. One guy did just buy it, but he got it for his 6 year old kid. A large portion of male gamers in this country sadly only care about fragfests, that's why I voted that MW2 would be game of the year even though I think Uncharted 2 deserves it hands down.

The only game i would buy in that list would be mario and luigi bowers inside story. (even though i dont have a ds lol).

As for ODST being first. People in this world are stupid, period.

Get real, show me a game company that won't milk a money making franchise. Halo 3: ODST is a pretty good game. I won't knock it.
Uncharted 2 might take Oct, Tekken 6 could throw an upset. Nov is Call of duty modern warfare 2

Sadly I will agree. Yet another tired rehash of the army FPS genre will sell two million games on day one. I really wish that FPSs would either evolve to something that would be enjoyable to play or people would quit buying the same game with a slightly different skin again and again and again.

Didn't an Activision rep say GH5 was outselling The Beatles: Rock Band? According to this list it's GH 500k, B:RB 600k. Or, was it the month before they were bragging about that?

Can't wait for next month either to see where uncharted 2 and demons souls is at cause I know that every retailer where I live is sold out of demons souls (not suprised) glad I preordered.

For Halo to win not suprised but not sure why either, its the same everything just new maps.
