Play The Mystical Avatar Game On December 1
It should be a definite holiday blockbuster and not surprisingly, there's a corresponding video game that may or may not prove worthwhile.
On December 16, "James Cameron's Avatar" hits theaters worldwide, and sci-fi/action fans everywhere are eagerly awaiting its release. But if you're a little impatient and you want a taste of that beautiful, mystical atmosphere ahead of time, you can pick up the game on December 1. That's the date listed at Ubisoft's official website; the title is coming to just about every available platform so you needn't feel left out, regardless of what systems you own. You will be able to customize your own character, sample more than 20 different skills and 60 total weapons, and ride around in futuristic vehicles (and even on the backs of alien creatures). Furthermore, you will have the benefit of freedom from the start, as you'll be able to choose your side; would you rather fight for the RDA or the native Na'vi? We assume there will be drastic story differences depending on your choice, which should add some longevity to the gameplay. And don't be so quick to dismiss this one. We've seen a reversal of the historic trend that says all games based on movies are atrocious; games like Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Kung Fu Panda, and The Bourne Conspiracy have all been worth playing for fans of those films. Why can't Ubisoft give us another decent title?
But just for the record, I find it crazy pretentious to actually put your name in the title of a movie. I mean, we know you did it, James Cameron. We're certain you'll get paid...we don't need your name jammed in our faces, ya know?

Personally I think movie games are taking a trip into playable territory and hope this game follows suit, im a big fan of in-game customization when it comes to characters so hopefully its a buy for me ^_^

OK, I take it back, it's not shovelware. Just watched some gameplay vids and it looks pretty good. Well the Kong parts look fun. I'm just not that big a fan of FPS. I'll admit it, I just judged a book by it's cover. I am only human. =)
Althought I do maintain that it was an awful name to pick.

For what it's worth, so do Sid Meier (who has actually earned the right) and American McGee (!).
I'm not a fan of the practice in any case.
