Is This The Final Box Art For FFXIII?

What you're looking at here may be the finalized box art for the Japanese version of Final Fantasy XIII.

However, Square-Enix did confirm that they haven't officially settled upon a design just yet (although they didn't deny the validity of this one), and if accurate, this may only be available with the game that comes with the Lightning-themed PlayStation 3. We can't really be sure. But what's interesting about this, as RPGSite points out, is that if the Japanese do end up with this box art, it'll be the first time a Final Fantasy game launched over there with something besides the game's logo over a white background. Maybe they just want to add a dash of flair this time around; who knows? We do know that box art has proven to be more important than you might think in regards to potential sales, as consumers often claim the box draws them to some games on store shelves. On the other hand, if you know you're going to buy FFXIII, you probably don't care about the box; it's gonna be in your collection no matter what. I suppose I'm in that boat but as a collector, I also want the best-looking box possible.

Anyway, we'll let you know when Square-Enix decides to show us the finalized box art and remember, we'll likely get something different here in North America. Maybe they'll show us both at the same time, if we're lucky.

We don't like everything Final Fantasy, we all have our favorite FF's and least favorites, and tons of different stuff that we like and dislike about each game. For example, for FF XIII I'm lovin' the new main character, Oerba Yun Fang, Snow, and I'm hating on the transforming summons (summons that turn into cars and motorcycles....really?)

And I could go on and on about each and every other game too.

I am a Final Fantasy fan and I must say...that is some lame box art.

I mean, I'm still going to buy the game no matter what they put on the cover. Basing my purchasing decision on the box art would just be silly. But that doesn't mean I have to like it...

I've always thought FF covers were not nearly as impressive as they should have been with the exception of the FF 12 collectors tin that is the prettiest thing on my shelf. I'm hoping they do something similar for this.

Before they used to have this very vague pictures of an important character right behind the final fantasy words. I quite liked it, simple but effective.

I expect the American version will do what they tend to do, put three of the main characters faces on the front with a vague fantasy background.

I'm ok with the summons that transforms into cars and motorcycles on FFXIII, but I'm disappointed that the limit breaks are not present on FFXIII. It doesn't feel like satisfying on playing FF's without those limit breaks.
