Infinity Ward: "We Only Care About What Our Fans Think"
Usually, a publisher wants to be very much in the loop, especially where massive blockbuster projects are concerned.
But it seems they put a lot of faith in developer Infinity Ward, as the studio was actually able to keep Modern Warfare 2 secret for quite some time. According to what community manager Robert Bowling told OXM, Activision only laid eyes on the game once development "was well under way." Bowling said he wanted the team to remain "focused," and better yet, "the only opinion we care about is what our fans think." You may remember when Infinity Ward reached out to the community and asked what they wanted to see in the sequel:
"So that's why very early on, we got in touch with our fans via Twitter and Facebook and said 'what's the one thing you wanted to see in the game?' So we got all that feedback and later on we asked a few more questions, and as we're designing, we have all these boards in the office that we can gut check ourselves and say, 'this is what they'd like to see, this is what we have planned and this is what we already have, and let's try to get those more in synch.'
That's really what's important, our relationship with us and our fans, and not so much us and Activision, or us and retailers or anything like that."
Some people aren't the biggest fans of Activision but it'd be a mistake to lump Infinity Ward into your hostile feelings toward the publisher. It's clear that IW went their own way with this one, and bear in mind that we're talking about the same developer that defied Activision's wish to keep the Call of Duty franchise in a World War II setting. See, this is why we care most about how the game makers operate.

You can't say; "I want that game to be at least 10 hours long," cause it might only take YOU personally 6 hours to get through it while some other chump might take 15. lol
I don't know, I kinda agree with them in that the experience dictates the length. It's not that they don't care what gamers think, it's that every gamer thinks something different. lol

I love IW I just wish that they could tone down their egos a bit and play well with others. I think that even a series as great as CoD could be incredibly improved if IW would work with Treyarch instead of against them.

Now all am looking to see is, if MW2 is going to take my GOTY crown from U2.
I just gotta feeling MW2 is gonna be the best fps EVER! I'm predicting a 96 or 95 overall at Metacritic, maybe just right under U2 or above it, who knows.

I would gladly pay 30-40 dollars for that short of a game because lets face it the real draw here is multiplayer and some of us old guys just aren't that into it. We get tired of multi after a month so it's hard to justify the full price based on all the BS jerking around we get from Acti and the BS competition between Trey and IW because in this one case competition is a bad thing. They still can't make a COD game that even runs at the full 720p. It's in Maddenland and other games already put it to shame at least in a technical sense and for sure in a SP campaign sense.

I wasn't into multiplayer when MW1 released, the single-player alone though was annoyingly short was just epic! Then after, I decided to try out the Online Multiplayer and it was just crazy. That's when I had respect for IW.
After MW1, I just had this feeling, that NO! no game is gonna be able to easily achieve this. Thus I skipped Killzone2,Resistance2 & W@W but got K2 at a later date, I wasn't on here hating on any of those 3 games.
And its not me saying this, go check the overall at Metacritic, Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare is still the highest rated fps out there besides Bioshock. Talk about Bioshock, I bet most of you haven't even given it a shot, just cause its a port!

there is no way in hell that is going to happen.
but than, the industry has gone into a crazy paid off spiral so i guess anythings possible.
depends on how large IW and activisions checkbook is.
and no half life 2 still owns best FPS title, until half life 2 episode 3 comes out.
or may be RAGE or crysis 2, but doubt it.
nothing can touch half life.

then might as well start dyeing your hair pink and take those ballet lessons now. We all know that someone is going to name modern warfare 2 based on sales alone. Its probably going to be VGA awards. really, GTA4 wins over MGS4? In my opinion, Modern warfare 2 doesnt deserve to win game of the year. It will just be modern warfare with more perks and different levels. Its not ground breaking as Uncharted 2 or Killzone 2, even gears of war series. If GOTY is decided by the game itself and not sales then multiplatform games, which only uses the common denominator approach and not much innovation/advancement wont be considered at all.
Well...not like game of the year is something special now. The proof, how many different games have game of the year editions coming out. It just lost its meaning.

but i seriously doubt MW2 is going to get MW2.
and i never said when i would do it, so ill wait a while if it happens.
the game that got GOTY has not deserved it for a long time.
oblivion in 06? never liked that.
MW in 07? what no uncharted , BIOSHOCK should of got it.
08 most sites gave it to either fallout 3 or L4D when it should of been MGS4 all around.
my choice for GOTY 2009 is still inFAMOUS just the platforming mechanics still amaze me today.
sonys right that game is addictive.

The fact that the "developer defied Activision's wish to keep the Call of Duty franchise in a World War II setting", throws in to question the idea that the whole COD franchise has turned into a Madden type situation where we get a yearly upgrade with only minor tweaks and revisions. Because for all intensive purposes, MW was a new IP that was simply forced by the publisher to retain the uncharacteristic COD tag for name-recognition and hence higher profits. This is mostly supposition but its not crazy, right?

Take SOCOM for example. They made Socom 3 then made Combined Assault with basically the same engine and just added some new things (namely vehicles) and that sort of started the end of Socom. (obviously, they didn't care as much as IW about the fans nor did they care to respond to anything, but alas, that is another battle). After a month or a few, it's just the same thing you've been playing for 3 years.

ill give it a try, but i doubt ill be on there for long.
but than i said the same thing about KZ2s MP and i was on there without fail 3 hours every day for a month.
i must admit though, theres nothing more satisfying sniping a guy from the other side of the map, than hear him swear his head of at ya.
beautiful!
some people take these things too seriously, its a game for christs sake i cant believe how competitive some people are.

I've also been wondering if Infinity Ward doesn't like Treyarch because they feel that Call of Duty was 'their' series. Makes sense to me after what NonProphet said above--was Modern Warfare supposed to be a new IP?
