Hugh Jackman To Assume The Role Of Nathan Drake?

We know the "Uncharted" movie is coming and considering what we've heard from Naughty Dog, this is one film based on a game that has a real chance. You know, a chance to be something other than junk.

Naughty Dog has faith in the crew behind the movie and we can't look past that; such a crew of perfectionists wouldn't let their precious series suffer a terrible big-screen death, now would they? And they definitely need some star power to add to the overall appeal, which is why the role of Nathan Drake is an important one. During an interview with OPM UK, Drake voice actor Nolan North hinted that Aussie superstar Hugh Jackman might be on the top of a short list. North admits that he'd "love to do it as Nathan Drake," but he says he also "understands the reality of the business" and someone like Jackman would be a perfect fit. Said North:

"Jackman is who I’d like to see. I think the producers would like to see Jackman too, because he has that tough guy exterior, but [...] there’s also a lot going on behind his eyes. A lot of emotion and sensitivity on that brusque exterior, and he has great comic timing. He’s a phenomenal actor. I just hope I get a part on the movie so I can work with Hugh."

Well, it works. Jackman really is a damn good actor and he does fit the physical look and mold of Nathan Drake. Furthermore, although Drake doesn't have an Australian accent, one of his good buddies ('cough') in Uncharted 2 did (Harry Flynn) so maybe it's not so much of a stretch to say Drake is from the land down under. Besides, Naughty Dog says they've been amazed at how many girls love the game and...well, Hugh Jackman tends to bring in the ladies. This isn't final but if it happens, the movie will definitely be on the right track in our opinion.

Why not get the person who provides the voice for her...Claudia Black. For those who don't know what she looks like she was in Pitch Black and in the sci-fi series Farscape. Besides I think she's hot, something about women and firearms...

I'd think he would make a good snake because he has the best balance of look/voice. Snake is just too iconic to get right, I mean that trade mark look and his grunt.

For Nathan he does seem a little manly. Nathan is more of a athletic type not brute force, ex: Wolverine.

I definitely agree that Nathan Fillon would fit the role of Drake so well. He's got a similar voice, a strong visual resemblance, and even his personality is almost identical... check out an episode of Castle on hulu.com and you'll see what I mean.

The only downside is that Nathan Fillon was the model and voice actor for Sergeant Buck in Halo 3: ODST... lol.

I think it would be cool if Nolan North played Drake in the Uncharted movie. All he needs to do is work out for a few months to get Drake's physical stature, and he's got it!

It would be so cool if the voice and motion capture actor of the in-game character were able to play that same character in the film.

North just cant ever be lead..Hes not a big name star that a movie like this needs (from a marketing point of view).

Also correct me if Im wrong, but in some of his pictures North doesnt appear to be the physically fit type to do the jumping, climbing parts of the movie...

He should just get in shape, because this movie could give him the opportunity of a life time. Although, I agree he doesn't seem to be the athletic type, they did use his body, just a bit digitally modified. It became obvious to me in the game when I noticed Drake runs with his chest and belly pointed out, ya know, kinda like a fat guy runs.

he may not be a well known actor but hes got what it takes. he does all the stunts to do the dialogue for the game, which was quite physical watching the behind the scenes stuff. not to mention im sure a trainer could whip him right into shape. hollywood has the miracle diet duh!

anyways point is, it ownt be drake with out drake. i dont think ill get into it even half as much as the game, just knowing and hearing a dif. voice. thats all im saying. they could get jackman, fillion, or matt mccounaghey and it still wouldnt be drake!

I think Nathan Fillion would be perfect. His character on Firefly reminded me a lot of Drake: Easy going, a bit cocky, and genuinely humorous. I don't think Jackman has any of those qualities. But I don't really mind the guy too much either.

David Conrad from Ghost Whisperer would be my choice. It used to be Nathan Fillion, but I think this guy is a younger match. There's a Ghost Whisperer episode where he's swimming around with a backpack in an industrial ventilation chamber that looks like the inside of a submarine. It looks like a clip from a Drake's Fortune movie. I wish I could put a fan vid together, it would be cool, anyways.

My two cents: I love Nathan Fillion for Drake just because I'm thinking of his Firefly role and that basically WAS Nathan Drake. It's sarcastic yet determined and he has the right look and build.

But that being said, I've seen Jackman do some fairly impressive things (as much as I hate to admit it, this guy is STUPID talented); if you've only seen him as Wolverine, you really don't know what I'm talking about. But Jackman is an accomplished singer and dancer, and has other acting roles - including in lesser known films like Woody Allen's "Scoop" - that prove his ability. He's also very thin by nature; he only bulked up for the hero role.

So he could certainly be Drake. I would, however, go with either dude. :)

Since the first time I played Uncharted, I honestly believed that they modeled Nathan Drake after Captain Mal from Firefly/Serenity. Hugh Jackman is brilliant and versatile, and won't disappoint, but I would still love to see Nathan Fillion in the role.

Ben, you're right about Huge Jackman but the problem is that no one has seen his other films. The "target market" for this Uncharted movie will immediately associate Jackman with Wolverine and the effect is lost. The kids won't buy into it and will see it as Hollywood trying to cash in on Jackman rather than the epic Uncharted movie it's supposed to be.

Well, why not use every voice actor for each role?

They all have acting experience.

We know them from the voices.

I don't know, perhaps I would just have a hard time seeing Wolverine play Drake.

Of course I read the article. However, it doesn't change my opinion at all.

Considering the history with game inspired movies, I am concerned over Hollywood ruining it for the sake of hiring an actor that could represent the highest box office draw, instead of choosing an individual that best suits the character of Drake.

Agreed. I know the live action movie of Drake will be different then what's portrayed on the game. All of the actors in Drake have experience behind the camera. All I am saying is, why not use the cast that's in place?

these actors can play the part, if you watch the behind the scenes stuff naughty dog tried putting the actors in similiar situations for the voice dialogue! they can act, and they are all stunt people! it could work!

i dont think ill feel the same bout the movie knowing the voice isnt right! it wont be drake... matter of fact it wont be any of the characters and chance is jackman, or whoever plays any of the chracters wont act like any of the characters we know and love!

i still think joe flanigan ( major sheppard from stargate atlantis would be best for the role, tho i wouldnt have any probz with mr jackman doing the role, hes talented enough to do it, i just thought joe had the attitude nailed down abit better like hes abit more sarcastic, has the natural smirk, hugh jackman is abit more serious, but still either would be good.

Cripes, it's a good thing gamers aren't in charge of casting movies. We'd have talentless B-movie actor Fillion in the lead role and a bunch of unrecognizable voice actors filling out the rest of the cast......and we're the same gamers who are constantly aching for Hollywood to finally make a GOOD video game film! Geeeeze.

Big names are needed to draw in big crowds. Hugh Jackman will be fine. You better hope he's available, or else it's gonna be Ben Afleck.......god knows he's available.

I watched a few episodes of Firefly. It was dull IMHO. I also checked out the spin off movie Serenity. Not that great either. 14 episodes of a failed TV show is hardly a success. Nathan Fillion has only done a few more failed TV shows since then.

If Fillion were to ever get the role of Drake (and he won't), we'd be still begging Hollywood for a decent video game movie a year after Uncharted: The Movie came out......I can't believe there's people out there that still remember him. I'm seriously thinking he has relatives on this site.

Whoah, chill out guys. It would start getting obnoxious if I posted umpteen messages praising Nathan Fillion or doing anything so repetitively. I'm not saying you can't have your opinion, just say it like once or twice instead of spamming the comments.

I think Nathan Fillion looks better to be Nate. But as far as more appeal and better acting, Hugh gets my vote.

I don't think Chloe would be in the movie because I believe the movie would be about the first game. Although, Angelina Jolie seems to be perfect for that role.

I might be crazy but I think Eddie Cibrian, from "Invasion", we be a good fit for Nathan drake. They really look alike, heck the reason I started watching the canceled series was because Eddie Cibrian looked alot like Nathan.

You want a solid Uncharted movie? Guess what? Nolan North IS Drake. Nolan North has a serious passion for all things Uncharted. Did you see the video on PSN? He's very enthusiastic about Uncharted. Nolan North has over three years experience BEING Drake. It's not as if they won't clean him up for the part. You put Hugh in there and the whole thing becomes about him instead of about Drake. My vote is for North... all the way.

your right it has to be north, he fits the mold 100%, because when we relate to the characters on screen in our games alot has to do with the voice and dialogue! its gotta be north!

petitioning this would be destructive i know but i think it'd be worth it to try and show columbia pictures that North is Drake and no one else! ;)
