Morgan Webb: Adults Won't Be Insulted By Ratchet And Clank
Morgan Webb is a fixture in the video game world, and although we don't agree with everything she says, we will freely admit the girl loves games. And her latest comment may light a fire under the Nintendo fan crowd that despises journalists who say the Wii is "just for kids."
Now that Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time is on store shelves, it's easy to spot the family-friendly appeal this franchise has always boasted. And technically, one can say the game falls into the same genre as something like Super Mario Galaxy; both are age-appropriate platformers (to some extent). Therefore, perhaps it's only natural that Webb would compare the two, although like we said, it's bound to cause some Nintendo/Sony controversy. She issued the following statement on a recent episode of Attach of the Show:
"...and let’s be honest, there are no other action-platformers out there... This is it, this is it... This is the only game out there for people who like action-platformers. I mean, I guess Mario Galaxy, but Mario Galaxy feels like its aimed so much for kids. Whereas this is like for everyone, but you feel like you’re not being insulted when playing it as an adult."
Of course, those on the Nintendo side of things simply refuse to admit that Webb just might be right, although we will certainly acknowledge the fact that adults can have fun with Super Mario Galaxy. The point Webb is trying to make, however, is that more adults will feel Ratchet and Clank is a bit more suited to their tastes, which is perfectly legitimate. Well, that's our take on it. And hey, does anyone know if Webb is married yet? Just wondering.

The ONLY thing which Ratchet has over the recent Mario games is the level of difficulty
NOTHING ELSE
Just because Ratchet and Clank has guns doesn't mean it's instantly more for adults than any other platformers
PS: Is Ghosts N Ghoblins for kids too? Hey there's no guns there either

And let's be honest, R&C is a hybrid platformer/shooter while Galaxy was something else entirely.

For example, her favorite game in 2009 b4 October...Infamous. She loves the Brutal Legend multi-player. And doesn't like Final Fantasy but understands the power behind the game itself.
I can respect that in anybody, but in a hot woman?!!! Ah.......I need a girl like her.

I think she and Adam get a bad rap for being Xbots when they just love games.
The problem with X-Play is that the producers and editors behind the scenes are, for the most part, Xbots. I loved -- past tense because X-play doesn't do this much anymore; it used to be a lot worse -- when X-play would indicate a game was for the 360 during a review or preview when it was obviously a multiplatform game so that anyone watching that didn't know better or doesn't venture outside the 360 section at the videogame store would think it was a 360 exclusive.
You also have to realize that half the time Adam and Morgan, and now Blair Herter (who has quietly been promoted from the news guy to the third host), are just reading the review of a producer or writer on the show. I'm not saying Adam, Morgan, and Blair don't play the games; but let's be honest, with all the games that come out around this time of year, there is no way those three can play and review all the games they review on screen.

Quite frankly, I'm more entertained by Adam Sessler on Xplay than Morgan. He's hilarious at the best of times.
Check out his review of Tetris Evolution on 360 from Xplay and you'll see what I mean.

none the less i dont agree that you say its for mature people, but i will say that as a gamer mario has always offered a good experience, and so has R&C. as a "mature" gamer im no more insulted by either franchise, as both put out good games. When mario is no longer delightful and starts looking at his flowers and calling them pretty, rather than eating them and causing destruction with his fireball, then ill change my thoughts.
i do see a parent looking at mario and thinking of there child first though, rather than picking up R&C and saying this is for me too.

A video game is not automatically mature just because it features lots of blood and gore, swearing, nudity and violence. Sure those are things that earn a M (mature) rating. However there is a huge difference between the maturity of something and it's suitability, The M rating is a quantification of what audience a game is suitable for. It's a measure of age. Maturity is a measure of how grown up someone is, and the level of maturity of a person can differ from their age wildly. Does the use of violence, blood, swearing and nudity make a game more mature in the sense of grown up, or is it perhaps true to say that an emphasis on such things might actually be a sign of immaturity?
Secondly, a video game like Ratchet and Clank is neither an adult game nor a kids game. It's simply a video game, and a classic one at that. You can tell - when playing them - that most R&C games are not intended for kids, either because they are a little hard, the humor is above their heads and the character dialog is just a little too edgy for kids.
But, tell me, does a game have to be blood, swearing and violence to be for grown ups? Can't a grown up play with a toy? Can't a grown up play with a fun game without all the gritty realism and stuff? It seems to me that R&C is a game that appeals to truly mature, grown up gamers as much as any shooter does. Why? Because it has all the gameplay without all the needless distractions of blood/gore, swearing, nudity and/or violence. Does a game need these things to appeal to a truly mature person?
The rating of a game is about it's content, not the maturity of the gamers playing it. A game that is colorful, fun and light hearted can still involve complex and challenging game play, and be entertaining without being targeted at the Blue's Clues crowd.

I remember playing Ratchet and Clank with my daughter and finding that I was the only one laughing at some of the jokes in the game. When she inquired about why I was laughing, I of course did not explain. So I agree that kids were not the target audience even though they are included.

Personally, I find both your opinions to be offensive and insulting. I guarantee you'd never say anything like what you posted to her face. It's easy to be so personally insulting when you can hide behind the Internet isn't it? No consequences to your abuse huh?

As for her looks, I don't think she's the most beautiful person on the planet or anything like that, but she's certainly attractive. She does need cleaner, more feminine lines in her face but other "lines" make up for it. ;)

As for her looks, Morgan Webb strikes me as one of those women who is beautiful despite any imperfections she may have because she is confident in her self, and feels good about herself.

the point i wanna make is its obvious she reads from a script, and she tries really hard to make it sound real, thats its hard to watch. i know she may have good insight sometimes, but when she expresses some things i get terribly embarrassed for her and sessler. that whole show comes off gimmicky because its hard to watch and take either of them seriously, becuase of there poor acting skills, not to mention sessler tries to make everything a joke with his poor sense of humor!

It wasn't always this way my friend. Sessler and Webb and the old skool X-play were informative, entertaining, and always seemed less scripted and more spontaneous. These days, it's not so informative, somewhat formulaic and clearly scripted - including more than occasional trips into monotone associated with reading from a script...

Think about it, these franchises have been around for years. Many of us grew up with them(myself included) and still enjoy these games, even as adults. I reckon the fanbase for both games, consists of a big chunk of adults.
But, back to those kids now. I live in a culdesac, where most of the neighbours have children between the ages of 6 and 18. I get along with them pretty well, mostly because I look a lot younger than I actually am.(I'm 24, but I look about 18 or 19.)Anyway, so a group of kids come up to me and ask :
Kid :'Do you have a PS2?'
Me :'Yeah, why?'
Kid :'Will you lend us a game?'
Me :'Sure, what are you looking for? I have Ratchet and Clank, Sly Raccoon, Jak and Daxter...'
Kid :'.........?'
Me :'You've never heard of those games...?'
Kid :'No. Do you have Grand Theft Auto?'
Me :'Uhhhhh...'
Kid :'How about, Call of Duty, or God of War?'
Me :'Geez kid, how old are you?'

You talk about Mario and R&C, and you're talking about gamers in their mid 20's and late 30's. So if you go around the web, you'll notice that Morgan's words hurt because a lot of adults who aren't as insecure as she is, don't mind playing Mario games.

Its making us seem a tad desperate and I personally don't respect her opinion because I can never tell when its scripted or actually her own words.
Aside from attack of the show none of the G4 staffers seem human and the nerd model pairing for each show got old when you realize a majority of the women didn't play games...
In short I sort of agree with her but I can't see why we make a big deal out of a hot female gamer, I know tons and we have to stop putting them on our trophy shelves so damned much or they will always be an awkward aspect of the gaming community.
(Just felt like ranting today plus she really creeps me out lol ^_^)

But c'mon. You seriously have to be a huge fanboy to deny Super Mario games their excellence when it comes to game design. Just ask Gabe Newell about his admiration for Super Mario 64. I guess he's not afraid his ballsack will fall off for playing Mario games. MORGAN Webb on the other hand, just wants to cater the hardcore base (the ones that bust a nut whenever she's on) thus her dissin' Mario like that. She must be proud.
And yeah, the story is extremely weak in most of those Mario games (save the princess-The End). That's exactly why Miyamoto said that the SMG sequel will not have much of a story. And that's good in my book.
The whole "R&C does not make you look like a fool because you constantly shoot things with guns" thing just keeps the stereotype alive that we core gamers are all about shooting things down. And that's BS! I for one play all types of games from every type of genre. Not just shooters.
And for the record, R&C games are fairly easy experiences.
IMO, both R&C and SM are just games designed to be fun. For ALL ages. If you're a gamer, you'll enjoy both franchises. Unless you happen to be a fanboy, then you'll just pick one over the other. Like Miss Webb did.
