More Evidence For GTAIV DLC On PS3

I think by now we all know the situation regarding downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV: Microsoft struck a deal with Rockstar to produce exclusive DLC for the Xbox 360 version of the game, although this deal is subject to time. Sony has basically guaranteed that the PlayStation 3 would also see fresh DLC at some point.

Therefore, when the rumor once again returns that Rockstar is working on new GTAIV DLC for the PS3, we're not exactly shocked. Apparently, Rockstar was giving an interview to a a radio station that gives further evidence to the accepted timed exclusivity theory. When asked, a Rockstar representative said he wasn't sure what he could talk about, but Microsoft basically said to them, "here is some money if you can bring the content to us FIRST." Obviously, that last word implies the PS3 will get the content at some point (or more likely, new and different content). Then he was asked when we might see the fifth installment in the blockbuster franchise and perhaps surprisingly, the game hasn't even begun development just yet:

"There is an email cirulating around the company that GTA 5 development will start soon, but it's not official just yet. Again something that isn't in my control."

Doesn't this put a small crimp in some analyst predictions that GTAV would release during the 2011 fiscal year? Or is that enough time for a project of this magnitude? It might be, if they're using the same technology they used for GTAIV... But anyway, I always love the GTA games and while my favorite is still Vice City, it's quite clear just how far the series has come after playing GTAIV. There's always a major controversy over this so I won't get into it; let's just say I salivate when I hear "GTAV" mentioned.

yea of course it coming to ps3 .... microsoft was so desperate to sell more on 360 they resorted to this

i dont care for dlc anymore. Rockstar and GTA have always been great to my sony console, now that they pretty much slapped me in the face with the assisted hand of M$ i dont care!

im ussually not one to say that cus a good game is a good game, and good dlc is good dlc, but this is getting rediculous. at this rate we will get the gtaIV dlc after GTAV release. its ludacris!

i love GTA and i enjoy the games Rockstar puts out but at this point im not at all interested in the dlc for GTAIV! just gimme GTAV and ill be fine, ill quit the pouting and ill sit in my room and be quiet!

I don't think the next GTA will be called GTAV though.
How many GTA was released between GTAIII and GTAIV?
And each of them weren't just some spinoff, it's an improved version one after another.

Slightly improved yes, but in large based on the same engine. There was a huge difference between II and III (going from 2D to 3D). Then another major step between III and IV (graphics engine and online play).
So, unless there will be another significant step in one direction or another, I'm pretty sure IV will remain as a milestone for at least a couple more GTA's.

(unless, of course, they just keep releasing plenty of DLC's until the nest major release)

microsoft doesn't know the meaning of the word 'exclusive'. exclusive means 'only available to certain distributors' not 'only available to distributors for just 6-9 months via million dollar deals'.

I'm actually excited for The Ballad of Gay Tony DLC. Seems to be the San Andreas of GTIV. Parachutes, planes, tanks all the stuff that made GTA fun that was missing from the original game. If the seperate disc that releases does come to PS3 with Lost n the Damned and Gay Tony on it I'd buy it. Waitin in comformation b4 I just buy the stand alone for 360. Of course it will be after all my other major PS3 titles first so I wouldn't probably get to it untill after GoW 3.

They missed their window of opportunity for DLC on the PS3, i mean we have so many awesome exclusives and games coming up(and already came). InFamous,Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, Ratchet and Clank acit.

they took a seemingly good deal(at the time) and alienated half of their fan base, we received dlc nor patches to fix the many problems plaguing the ps3 version(besides adding trophies) and soon they may want to put dlc on the ps3, screw them. I moved on from GTA 4 a long time ago, they missed their chance to make the amount of sales had the dlc released side by side

That is exactly how I feel, and considering Sony made Rockstar what they are today, its nice to see that companies like Rockstar have class and not be bought out like a cheap whore to the highest john. /s

And yea Sony exclusives rock so hard againts all platforms, right now between Uncharted 2 and Demon Souls I am so freaking happy with gaming at the moment! It gets no better than those games!

I will never be too hyped for a multiplat again now that I can clearly see the advanced capabilites of my PS3 be utilized with taliormade exclusive shining bright software!

I just got GTA IV and I still agree that they've probably missed the window of opportunity.

GTA games are big enough without DLC. I never finish them, myself, which is why I don't pay full price for them.

This was a di** move my MS and Rockstar. I never liked Rockstar games but I always understood them to be a Sony developer. Ben is right when he says as time goes on well see less 3rd party exclusives but to stick it to Sony this way by striking a timed exclusive deal on a game that was once a Sony exclusive was dirty and wrong in my opinion. Not to mention the complaints that the original version was scaled back due to the storage limitation on the Crapbox.

I am one of those people. I see now. I still think it's a dirty move and not very smart on Rockstars part. Whatever MS paid them, they probably could have made much more had they showed the PS3 some DLC love along side the Xbox.

I think GTAIV DLC is the only game that has little effect on the sales of the games. THis is game is simply too long to be finished. The DLC just has a different story. In terms of story, Uncharted and MGS4 wins them by a mile.

And yet so many places gave GTAiV a perfect review, which is bullshit, it is a FAR from perfect game.

Now Uncharted 2 on the other hand, IMO deserves a perfect Score.

Hopefully they are working on re-releasing GTA:III, Vice City and San Andreas on bluray which is why they haven't started GTA:V yet.

well, R*, the way i see it, could have released DLC the very same day on PS3 as they did on XBOX 360. As long as it was different... Exclusive DLC for timed or not. Unless it says, All DLC on the XBOX or something along those lines, as long as the PS3 version is different it is fine..

Yeah, this timed exclusive isn't looking so good right now with all the exclusives coming to the PS3. GTAIV has lost all it's momentum, so I hope Rockstar is smart enough to bundle the MS DLC and mayb bring new DLC for PS3. If they try to nickel and dime PS3 owners after putting the banana in our tailpipes, they will be in for a rude awakening I believe.

how can GT5 development start now when there working on agent?
i thought R* north are only a fairly small team, surely theres not enough people there to work on both agent AND GTAV.
anyway, on the DLC front im not holding my breath.
and to be honest i could not care less if it does or does not come, ill be too buys playing other games to care.
R* can go ^ themselves for all i care.

Vice City was my fav too! ;) Loved the Scarface inspired story (more like rip), and the music was so fu**ing epic, possibly one of the best VG sound tracks ever!

It was only a matter of time, however, I'm waiting for it to come to PC. Have the CE for PS3, but just like it more on PC...either way, both PC/PS3 owners shouldn't have had to wait this frickin long. Damn MS.

Too late for me, got other games to buy and play. GTA 5 might trigger my interest... maybe. Reckon someone at Rock* has realised they have made a bit of a stuff up, especially after TakeTwo results for the DLC's not being as fantastic as they expected. Happens when you cut off your nose...
