Custom Tracks Confirmed For GT5?

The question has never been, "what can you do in Gran Turismo 5?" The question, especially after obtaining all the information we currently have, is "what can't you do in GT5?"

We know there will be a horde of cars and more tracks than ever before; the total sits somewhere around 60, although this may include different race layouts for the same track. There's just no denying that the fifth installment in this critically acclaimed franchise will be the deepest and most authentic but perhaps you need more; maybe you require a bit more in the way of individual customization. Well, how's about some nice track editing? This feature has supposedly been confirmed in a recent European video straight from the DigiExpo. If you're not fluent in the language at hand, the translation for the statement that pops up about two and a half minutes in is simple: "you can make your own tracks." Of course, this could be open to interpretation and it's not like Kazunori Yamauchi himself made the announcement, but it's a good sign. Personally, I really like the idea of creating my own track; I'd place it along the coast somewhere and make it full of complex twists and turns. Don't get distracted by the scenery 'cuz you'll have to pay attention to the hairpins!

Creativity and imagination isn't often utilized much in racing games but when we start making our own tracks, the sky's the limit. Let's just hope this proves to be true.

At first glance I was like "who cares"(I really though it was about music tracks).This(maybe)new addition would definitely put it well beyond all other racing games.

glad i'm not the only one who thought that. I was thinking that sony would have that in a firmware update before gran turismo releases so whats the point of announcing that.

Same here, but I would rather have custom music tracks in the game than the ability to create circuit tracks. Am getting really pissed off at having to listen to someone else's idea of music. Especially in driving games of anything that may have some longevity. I may start buying 360 versions for some games for this very reason.

Don't think this will happen
I'm thinking that "custom tracks" means that you can play your custom music (tracks)

But would be cool to make racing tracks too :O

Though the only racing track I need is Red Rock Valley

Heh...I love how when I say "coast," people automatically assume I mean the west coast of the US. I HATE the west coast. You can keep San Fransicko.

No, I was thinking somewhere over in Europe somewhere. Like the Mediterranean coast. :)

i hear the oregon coast is nice despite all the rain, ugh!

any way it is better than san francisco, but theres def. alot more to stare at even further south than SanFran, if u know what i mean. ;)

Gran turismo never disappoints. And thats coming from someone that isnt that into gran turismo. Wonder what a hardcore fan would say. But in my opinion, Gran turismo has and always will be in a category of its own.

I really don't think Foza 3 will be anything similar with GT5. Gran Turismo is just a whole different experience. When I play Forza 3, I just don't have the same feeling as when I play GT5. They're just different.

I would be surprised to see custom race tracks considering the complexity of this game.

Do we really think they will be able to give us the chance to build tracks like Laguna Seca or Silverstone and them still have the same style an graphical integrity as the preset tracks in GT5?

Not only that, how much freedom will we have. I don't see this happening

well, it is using the cell processor, and they say its supposed to be capable of doing all sorts of things. Polyphony has been working exclusively with the ps3 for a long time and we know what that could happen when you do things exclusive, you get games like uncharted 2. Maybe this could be one of their selling points. You can make your own tracks without sacrificing quality. If that happens, that will be a sharp blow against the xbox when they say it can do everything the ps3 can.

If the course designer is done using a scale model racing like assembly of re-defined pieces it could work. First you design the landscape, and then you design your course by dropping pieces of track from a pre-determined group of course segments, and finally place the scenery and grand stands. I doubt we'll be able to create courses that have the life or the pre-created ones. Nor will we be able to create courses that look like real locations, but we should still be able to create some interesting course designs, especially if we're given several different settings to work with.

Sure hoping there's more surprise from Polyphony.
Forza 3 has more than 100 tracks according to wikipedia and GT5 only has 70 which is a shock to me.

But a custom track?
Hell yeah!!!! My dream track is like this:

what pisses me off is they say they have x amount of tracks but the reality is that its just the same set of tracks with only differences in time of day, mirror, or weather conditions.

The truth is approx 27+.
100+ tracks only because the included all the crazy variations.

I did see one epic track variation in Forza 3 so kudos to Turn 10.

It would be good, because whereas something like modnation is good for fun, this could be good for very challenging driving. I'd make mine an track for F1 with a huge straight in it just before a hairpin and then a sharp corner with a gravel pit.

That would be awesome news if it's true. Really awesome! Like Mod Nation racers or whatever. I just ordered GT4 for my PS2 because I've never played one of these GT games before. Wish it would hurry up and get here!

If it would be custom soundtracks it woudn't be a big announcement, the PSP version has it too, though if you really can build your own racetracks it'll keep me from buying ModNation Racers.

It’s hard to imagine PD to implement track editor into GT5. It almost seems impossible. However, if they do manage to do it, no question GT5 will be even more leaps and bounds beyond its competition. What track editor can do is create unlimited gameplay in the game’s life. Imagine new tracks all the time. Surely I’d take this over livery editor. Painting is nice, but it doesn’t affect gameplay. (same comment from GTP site :D)

i have a feeling this will become non existent. dont get me wrong this feature sounds sick and could automatically make gt5 stanbd out above the rest if done orrectly. but i dont think it will happen, but my fingers are crossed!

Well, I hate to Rain on the parade but , to me GT5 is crap comapred to FORZA 3 yes i know i'm changing the subject but see GT5 has better graphios and better simulation as well weather change yeah so what? Look at forza 3 comapred to it forza 3 blows it away by far, look at all the cars you can drives and the replay stuff you can do the car customazation is great with insane vinyl for your car. If you dream it you can make it in forza 3( well at least the vinlys) The online is fantasic and gameplay seems a bit funner to GT has tried to make thier game as close as real life as possible whice is really good i;m a big gt fan but gt has been missing out on the FUN since GT3 that was thier last fun game. PD are usually perfectionist and yeah they are X carful with thier stuff. I JUST HOPE THAT GT5 WILL NOT BE DISSIPOINTING AND WILL MAKE UP FOR WHAT IT LACKS COMAPRED TO FORZA 3

Speaking of raining on parades, but GT5 isn't even out yet. So how can you even draw a comparison?

Why do Forza fans feel the need to go on the offensive when it comes to GT5? We all know who to thank for that. Turn 10 started this mudslinging garbage (GTPlanet MS employee posters and DLC bribes), and to be honest it's old.
