Cage On Heavy Rain Sales Potential: "It's Up To Us"
By now, it's easy to say the first quarter of 2010 is crowded with high-profile releases and ironically enough, many of those games fled out of 2009 to avoid the stiff holiday competition.
But Quantic Dream still believes it's a bad idea "to release a new IP or a new genre just before Christmas" and on top of which, if a game is good enough, it'll probably sell well. We've been saying this for quite a long time, but it's good to hear a developer echo those words of wisdom. During a recent PlayStation LifeStyle interview, Quantic Dream CEO and Heavy Rain director David Cage said it's basically "up to them" to deliver a singular experience that consumers will pay for. Said Cage:
"But, yeah, you know, if the game is good I think it’s going to sell anyway, so it’s up to us, and we are in this type of strange situation where we try to create our own genre, so we can’t say we really have competition as such, in the same category of game, so we believe it is an interesting position."
We've bought into this "new genre" type of thinking before, previously postulating that Heavy Rain might be the start of an intellectual genre due to its unique cinematic/interactive style of storytelling. And if there's one thing we've proven in this industry it's that quality titles do sell particularly well. Lastly, even if the game arrives around the time of God of War III, Gran Turismo 5 or even Final Fantasy XIII, Cage is right in thinking that Heavy Rain really wouldn't be in direct competition with any of these titles. We are indeed hoping for this game to be successful!

I've already got my money on this. No doubt thousands of Sony fans are drooling over this title right now. And 360 fans and Xbots are reading about it and praying that a 360 version or copy cat game will come out that they can attempt to throw in our faces. (HA!!! Heavy Rain is only 8/9/10 hours long, but (360 title) is 12 HOURS LONG!!! AND it offers 3 more endings then Heavy Rain!!!!)
Can anyone honestly care about a Heavy Rain copy-cat game made for 360 to combat the original??? I guess this is the wrong place to ask. Even then, it'll be another 2-3 years before it sees the light of day and 360 will be considered too old to compete. (Lets face it, a 360 clone of Heavy Rain will never fit on a single 360 DVD, it's old tech and developers are starting to see this. Blu-ray did pay off, Sony were right again.)

Probably won't see a demo for this one, since it is more of a story reliant game. A demo would only be good to get a feel of the mechanics of the game I think.
Every thing I have heard and seen about Heavy Rain has really wet my appetite. Pun intented I suppose.
