Sony, Ubisoft Ink Marketing Deal For Assassin's Creed II
Has anyone noticed that multiplatform advertisements often focus on the Xbox 360? In the past, this has made perfect sense, what with the much larger 360 user base.
But now that the gap has narrowed a great deal, it's past time to see some PlayStation 3-related ads for multiplats, right? Well, the first example you'll likely see is that of Assassin's Creed II, as according to a report from GamesIndustry.biz, Ubisoft has inked a deal with Sony to make this happen. We already mentioned the first point of some note in that article; the fact that pre-orders are way up over the original Creed - about 80% better - although it makes perfect sense. The interesting part revolves around marketing for the hotly anticipated sequel, as TV ads focusing on the PS3 version of the game will begin popping up in North America and Europe. In other words, we'll see more ACII ad activity "than would have been possible otherwise," 'cuz Sony is willing to lend a helping hand. Perhaps this is the start of a new trend: Sony may not buy exclusives like Microsoft, but they're certainly not above throwing around some marketing dollars. And as far as many analysts are concerned, it's about time.
For our part, we just can't wait to give ACII a try. Just about everything we've seen for this game has been astounding; it should definitely be a big holiday winner.

ever since the slim came out, there was so many adds for multiplatform games like NFS shift with the PS3 logo, and PS3 slim price at the end of them.
kinda sad when sony is supporting 3rd party games more than their own.
god knows how many NFS shift adds ive seen in comparison to the 3 or so infamous adds and zero uncharted 2 adds.
seriously what the ........ is wrong with them?
ZERO! adds for uncharted 2
they obviously dont want there games selling well, i wonder how many R&C ACIT adds ill see.

In the U.K Need for speed shift had adverts that had the PS3 at the end but since they have stopped showing about twice as many have come out with the 360 at the end.

Personally, I think that any publisher who pushes out an ad for a multi-platform game ought to be required to list each platform the game is available for, just as they must prominently indicate the game's rating. I don't care who tags on a 5 second product ident at the end of the commercial, so long as it's clear during the commercial (for a multi-platform game) just what platforms the game is available on. Frankly it just doesn't make good business sense to put out a commercial and snub half your potential audience.

I hate it when Microsoft "brands" multi-platform games as 360 games and I also hate it when Sony "brands" multi-platform games as PS3 games.
I'm delighted to see Sony spending more money on advertizing (though I never found there to be a dearth of PS3 ads, as others have stated), but I hate to see Sony stooping to Microsoft's level. Two wrongs don't make a right (though three lefts do).
