PSXE Poll Update: Yes, FFXIII Is Indeed Coming Out Early

We always change the poll on Sunday nights but I guess we're a little late this time, just because we received the answer to last week's poll a few days ago.

Now, this means that some of those votes counted may be illegitimate 'cuz you voted after you knew the truth, but I know for a fact that most of y'all were right before the verdict was in. So kudos on that. Yes, Final Fantasy XIII is indeed landing in a jam-packed March and as I said in my Week in Review, it's a bittersweet announcement. I don't know about anyone else, but I only have so much free time in any given week and when it comes to massive titles like FFXIII and Gran Turismo 5, I need weeks and weeks...sometimes months. I always take the "completionist" mentality when tackling any new Final Fantasy and I'm basically the same way with GT. Ironically, those are the only two franchises left that really evoke this kind of dedication in me, although I'm getting close with God of War III and by the time Uncharted 3 comes out, I'll be all over that, too. And if any of these come out too close to each other, I'm gonna be seriously pressed for time.

Two instances this past week prompted the idea for this week's poll: first of all, it's the release of Modern Warfare 2, which is most certainly a game designed around online multiplayer. Second is my interview with Mia, who said - and I quote - that "guys are di***" online. So my question is this: when you play online, do you think people are generally well behaved or are they just plain terrible? Bear in mind that I'm asking about strangers; obviously, your friends won't be "di***" online. So when you jump online to play, what's your usual analysis of those strangers with whom you're playing?

That was one poll I was quite happy to be wrong about, but kudos on putting up a poll that once again predicted future events, as I recall it was put up before we heard anything about a "big announcement" from SE.

As I only game on PSN I've never had any problems online, typically a great bunch of blokes. Even if they do blow my head off they rarely feel the need to teabag a guy over it.

for me recently the PSN has gotten really bad! not wuite on par with 360 but its close in temrs of people talkin crap and being annoying!

i love single player games and believe the industry should stick to it. but im a big MP online person. i would say 70% of my gaming is online and this year the PS3 has gotten worse. i think its because now that its cheaper the kids are finally getting it. but no matter what it disgusts me and i end up muting half the people i always play with or am in a room with cus its obnoxious!

there is so much racism and tough guy comments it makes me sick! i actually only have my mic on now days if im playing with 3 or more firends as well.

i guess i should say it depends on the game too lol! i will say the Resistance series has always had great community. while MW and MW2 is getting rediculous. KZ2 i would say ive had a mixed bag with! and then other games like Sacred 2, anytime id have someone join theyve always been great help and stuff so...

I know! the PSN community on Uncharted 2, is so offensive. The game just started and this guy just kept cursing the hell out of me. Then there's these kids with microphone talking nonsense throughout the whole game. I was forced to mute everyone to enjoy my game.

I must admit I haven't been online since the price drop, (except for the Uncharted 2 Beta which I had no trouble with)maybe it is full of ex-xbots now.

Its one of the main reasons that i wanted the ps3 price to remain high. before pricecut, i was playing productive games in killzone 2 and modern warfare 1, yes i mean 1. But after pricecut, theres been all these kids playing acting tough with everyone in the room. I was playing MW2 earlier and this kid, he said he was 11 and was really proud that hes going through puberty, was talking crap to 4 guys on the same clan which he was set up to be on the same team. I was glad noone on my team had mics. from pregame lobby to pregame lobby, that kid wont stop.

Most online players are pretty cool in fighting games. Then of course, there is the sore losers who bad mouth everybody who beats them. First person shooters are different though, but I'm willing to bet the lot of them are trash talkers. That's not a knock on FPS games really, it's just that I see tons of complaints about campers so I assume the trash talking is more prevalent based on that.

That said, I think PSN has an overall better online community than that other service. Even if I haven't played on XBL in years, you can certainly read a lot more about racist comments and childish insults more on XBL than PSN. And yeah, I'm sure PSN has some of those too, I just think that behavior isn't as dominant as most PS3 users are not teens and pre-teens who love to curse when mommy and daddy aren't around.

I'm mediocre in fighting games so what bugs me the most are people who just exploit everything about the moves and beat you into a pulp with a couple cheap moves.

actually, they curse even when their mommies are there. i was playing MW2 and this 11 year old kid just kept talking smack, bad player too, and messing with the voice changer, i hate that thing, the hell made sony think that its a good idea. Anyway, the whole room heard his mom scold him, it was funny as hell.

I was playing tekken 6 a while back, and most of the people i fought either uses a sweep type of attack only or just one move the whole game. I like it when people actually play right, but that thing just pisses me off.

But that's how fighting games are played. If you're not annoying your opponent, you're doing something wrong. Thing is, high level players know how to play defense and won't allow "cheap exploits". It's really not that complicated; it's just that simple.

Thing about Tekken 6 online is that it's horrible though. There's always a near full second of lag for inputs, regardless of connection speed, so I won't touch it online until it's fixed.

Regardless of someone's skill level, I always refrain from trash talking unless someone does it to me first. Even the lesser skilled players I will tell them good game. It's just proper online etiquette that everybody should follow. What bothers me is when I get messages like "*explicit* you, cheap a$$ *explicit*.'". If people choose to act that way over a video game then they shouldn't take their game online.

I always have lag in Tekken 6, even ran 2 Tekken 6 games in one room through a wired connection once to test it. It's awful right now, I only sometimes join my friend's matches when I'm really bored. But yeah, I haven't had a lag free match ever.

No idea what you're talking about. Tekken isn't a one dimensional fighting game like say Mortal Kombat. That's why throws and pokes exist; they force turtles out of their shell. There's also a thing called "low parry" that every character can do. It would take me too long to explain Tekken's depth; there's simply too much for one comment. Personally, I've never seen a time up yet in over 95% of matches. Besides, that sounds like a fun challenge to me - never seen that before. You'll have to give me this person's PSN so I can see it for myself. :)

I don't have Tekken 6, so it must be a bit different. I got into those matches in SCIV though. I'll pick up tekken when it goes cheaper.

soul calibur IV lag was unacceptable. I mean soul calibur is a reflex driven game with its parries, i forgot what they call it. I tried playing online and it was crap. Its not my connection either as i always had good connection when i played. its the people who dont take their time to actually set up their ps3s.

Well we gamers sure do know how to dream

And when it come to gaming online, most people are easy to get along with and not many people bad mouth. But it also depends on the game, Resistance 2 has a great online community that is usually fun to play with, however there is an abundance of players in MW2 who love to shout obscinities, but I have yet to be yelled at personally by another gamer.

and I have to thank MW2 for showing me that there is such a thing as a pre pubecant southern gangster accent

I hate playing on the PSN sometimes! You've got d**ks who run around sending you messages like "learn the moves" or "h@y n00b m3ist3r g3t 0ff t3h c0l\ltr0ll3r 4nd l3t 4 r34l pl4y3r 0n!"

Like I don't have better things to do with my time then read messages sent to me by ignorant jerks! When I win I take my rank up or my victory and say good match and move on, but I hate people that take the time to personally insult you!

(Unless its live chat in game then its just funny to listen to sometimes ^_^)

I wonder if it's gonna be like Bayonneta where the Japan version of FFXIII will have english in it or was it Asian version?
All I know is that I have a friend in Australia knocking himself out with Bayonneta and he thinks it's amazing which I believe him.

Anyway, I've only had online 'problems' on GTA IV. Because it's obviously GTA.. lol people of all ages, grown men and kids trying to fit the role of a Online 'Gangster' Hero. Similiar to many characters from the actual game - like the user of words with profanity.

I don't play online very often on my PS3 (I'm more into the single player aspect of gaming on consoles) but when I do it's usually BF3 and I seldom run into any jerks. I tend to do my online gaming on the PC where I can throw down the Perm. Ban hammer.

@WorldEWM: first game I heard comments like that was in SoulCalibur then again in CallOfDuty then again in StreetFighter. The worst came during a Tekken5(DR) match though, guy says, and I quote "I so pwned your king! Now go back into the litter box with your meow meow" so yeah...

Im pretty good at most of the games I play but when I get beaten its not usually bad because the PSN is great ^_^ but the douches are out there T^T

As for FFXII of course that is glorious news.

As for online play, I only get annoyed by people who take it TOO seriously and start yelling at their team through their mics. I like to just have fun online, ethier competitive or mucking around. I'm a cheeky devil on MGO, i like to box ram people of the rooftops :D, i joke around alot, but i dont become offensive unless i'm being defensive.

I almost never play online, but the few times I have, it was awful. Last time in the Uncharted 2 demo, the only two guys who had mikes couldn't say a single sentence without using the "n" word. The folks in Home seem to be friendly though.

I'll stick to my single player, thank you very much :)

Most of the people i have played with on PSN have been really nice people. Theres the occasional 12 year old twat, but for the most part the PS3 is a big boy's console and i hope it stays that way.

my experiences are mixed... for the most part everyone is super cool.. but I get the occasional baby who has to make comments about being female like "why aren't you in the kitchen".... it gets really old

Reading all these comments, it makes me wonder why Ben or Arnold doesn't create a PSX Extreme Clan in Home where we can all meet up to game online. Like, if I wanted to play Uncharted 2 online with COOL people, I could get on Home first, go to the Clan, and see if anyone is there that wants to play.

Don't know how well that would work, but we could coordinate optimal meeting times through the website, perhaps?

It just seems like there are a lot of jerks out there, but none of them are a part of the PSX Extreme community.

All that trash talk makes me glad I don't do on-line, single player only for me.

BTW, there's 2 companies that make devices(Smack Talk & Trash Talk) for the Xbox 360 just to annoy everyone else online, so the little kiddies can get all their pre-puberty kicks they want.

I have the one below & I'll never use it, but I just bought it to add it to my gaming collection
