Yamauchi On GT5: "We Are Releasing A Full Game"
On the one hand, the longevity of games this generation has greatly benefited from the advent of downloadable content but on the other hand, some believe it gives developers an excuse to release a less-than-complete title.
Well, Kazunori Yamauchi wants to make one thing abundantly clear: when Gran Turismo 5 launches, it will not be gimped or lacking in any way. You won't want to wait a few months so Polyphony can add all sorts of features that should've been included on the disc. You won't sift through the vast menus of the game and say to yourself, "man, there just isn't enough here." As summarized at GTPlanet, Yamauchi encouraged racing fans everywhere during his recent interview with the Official UK PlayStation Magazine:
"Let me be clear on this. There is a massive amount of content in this game, I don’t think there are many teams that put as much into a game as we can. The launch of the game isn’t a start, we are releasing a full game. Everything we want to put into the game is on the disc when it ships. Having said that, we do have a sizeable online team that will look after it once it’s launched."
Furthermore, it seems the weather systems involved in the game are also complete but Polyphony appears to be toying with the idea of including it all in the game. As Yamauchi said, "the choice is about whether it will improve the experience." Basically, if they're not convinced of the quality of this system, they're not going to put it in. Still, night racing will definitely return so don't worry about that.
There's little doubt that Gran Turismo 5 will be one of the most impressive titles of the generation and we certainly applaud Yamauchi's "full game" comment. And this doesn't mean DLC is out of the realm of possibility; it simply means we won't regret our initial $60 investment.

Thank you Kaz and PD, not that I had any doubt in the first place. Just good to hear it.

And enough of that. But, is there any doubt in anyone's mind that some ass cracker somewhere is going to freak out like that?
Anyway, I can't wait for this game to release. Well, I can wait and will have to but I am stoked for its eventual release. I haven't been able to force a Forza 3 purchase yet as I have been too caught up with all the other titles that are releasing right now, and as soon as I can track down a copy of the GoW Collection I will be playing another one, but right now I am sitting on Demon's Souls, NHL10, Dragon Age, and ACII... ps fans aren't morons.
GT and MGS are the only franchises that can claim to LITEARALLY own the ps brand
Those two franchises are probably the biggest reasons other than Final Fantasy why the Playstation brand is still around
That said, I can't wait to get my hands on this

This demonstrate to me that PD care more about building a quality product rather than stuffing the game with things that might be non-essentials, in other words gimmicks.

I heard that Forzas new update will include wear and tear on the vehicles, to the point where you can no longer drive them. You'll have to download one tire at a time, brakes, oil and more. All for a modest fee, of course. Microsoft's ultimate gaming business-model..
No matter how much noise about how good their game is, the makers of F3 are making, GT5 will leave F3 in it's smoke cloud. Can't wait!

I guess I don't understand this statement, they are toying with the idea of putting weather systems into the game? Shouldn't they be there anyway if they are complete? Just make it an option you can turn on and off or something.

i love a challenge of hardcore simulation in changing weather conditions. Combine that with a great damage model and some good online functionality and this game will not be leaving my drive for a Loooooooong time.
oh and i hope it has a really good replay theatre so i can save my crazy racing vids.
cuz if the online races include all this stuff damn its gonna b some pretty eye candy to go back and look at

noshownogo, can a pay to play scheme be any good if a developer aren't abusing it?
The point I'm making is that like microtransactions, downloadale content is nothing but a nicely dressed-up scam in disguise to pipe more money out of you and its shame people like you actually support things like this.
Super Street Fighter 4 is already rubbing me the wrong way as I felt that it could have been DLC to the original SF4 despite what Capcom tells us.
What Capcom is doing with SS4 seem very fair, though I do wish Capcom was doing a arcade release. Ontop that the game should've been $30 instead of $40.

Seriously can't wait to get my hands on this beauty. This is THE racing game I've been waiting for this generation. As much as I love Motorstorm, GT is the real deal.
I hope they do add the weather....
Ideally racing events are rarely, if ever held in bad weather conditions (unless it's rally or Nascar or some stock cars). But for most Pro racing leagues it's almost always clear day/night.
But it wouldn't hurt to add weather for the Arcade mode of rhe game.
I just hope they do add time of day (morning, day, afternoon, evening, night)
By the way, that's the power of blu-ray right there
No limitations

hopefully its like NFS shift, hard but forgiving.
the only thing i hated about shift was i noticed the racing line was off.
i take a corner at green and i spin out, i take a corner at yellow im fine.
WTF?
green is to fast but yellow is ok.
anyway besides the racing line it was a very enjoyable game i just hope the price of racing wheels go down.
i really want to get one, but the cheapest one i can find is like 300 bucks.
no way in hell am i paying 300 bucks just for a racing wheel.

Seriously, PS3 games are the best bargain deals considering their content is a higher quality and quantity than their competition.
Now I hope PD, releases GT6 within 3 years because it would feel so wasted to have a very awesome and definitive racing game treated like another AAA racing title (just like Forza).

As far as weather, I think it would be awesome to have it snowing in the snow races, and raining in the wet races. And in regular races, maybe have it be cloudy one time, sunny the next; noon one time, a beautiful sunset on the horizon next time. I wouldn't want changing conditions in regular races though. You finish in 4th, you try again, hoping to do better - then it starts raining and track conditions change drastically - that would suck!
