ACII's First Week Sales: "Overwhelmingly Positive"
Any game that releases alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the blockbuster title that has officially had the biggest launch in industry history, is destined to fail. ...right?
The competing title would really have to be something special to enjoy any kind of success at all, especially with many gamers tightening their belts over the past few months. Ah, but this only proves just how amazing Assassin's Creed II really is, because Ubisoft has revealed a very promising first-week figure. According to GamerZines, this excellent sequel managed to sell over 1.6 million copies in its first week of availability; a number the publisher calls "overwhelmingly positive." If you're wondering, this is 32% better than the first-week sales of the original AC, which also sold extremely well when it launched almost exactly two years ago. Yes, we all know that Modern Warfare 2 sold 4.7 million copies in the opening day of sales but ACII's performance is very encouraging; many thought it might labor badly in the shadow of Infinity Ward's massively anticipated shooter. But thankfully, a great many have rewarded Ubisoft for one of the best games of the year and they deserve the recognition, damnit.
I don't know about anyone else, but ACII certainly goes in my top 5 for 2009. Nothing will ever top Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, but ACII has a chance at vying for second with Killzone 2 and inFamous...

I've played 5 hours of ACII now and I am really enjoying it.
I got bored of the first one after a few hours but the sequel is just pure fun and entertaining. The fighting is very smooth and you just want to fight everyone you see just for the hell of it. The missions are very varied (in fact there is just too much stuff to do!).
In my opinion it way better than GTAIV as the missions have more variety and there are even checkpoints within missions (do you hear me Rockstar!)
You won't get bored as most missions only take 10 minutes or so.
The kill and counter animations are sweet!
I was tempted to miss this because of the boring first one but so glad I picked it up.

Again, it's just the start of the game, I sure hope things change because everybody is loving this game and there has to be a lot more that I haven't discovered thus far.

"Assassin's Creed II" blows the first one away. It's just way ... better. Bigger. More enjoyable. More in-depth. The story within the story ... way cool. Definitely worth it. I'm really enjoying Desmond's "flashbacks" and schizo periods ...
(And they really upgraded Lucy, know what I mean?)

This has gone on too long; lets drop this charade and move on and talk about what matters to us; the PS3 and gaming on this system of choice.
Discrimination of any kind is not necessary; we are mostly adult and mature in nature here; let us keep it that way... and PSXExtreme will be the envy of many other websites around the internet...

just 6 things i want them to change for assassins creed 3.
1 allow me to highlight enemies further away.
ive lost count the amount of times i would be literally 30cm above someone but i can not highlight them, you cant use the assassination technique nearly enough as you should be able too.
like that mission in rome where your on top of pillars so small, theres 2 enemies with their backs to me, i crawl up to the ledge face them i cant highlight them so i hit square anyway and ezio just flops his blades out.
i should be able to highlight both of them, hit square and ezio should leap into the air and nail them in the back of the head.
not hard. no?
2 99.99999999999999999999999999% of the time ezio only uses one blade killing 1 guard when theres 2 of them standing toe to toe.
they should make it that every time i hit square to assassinate i take out 2 guards not one, along as theres 2 there obviously.
3 heaps of times i have highlighted a enemy, hit square and ezio just flops his blades out.
WTF?
i said ASSASSINATE!
i dont see how you can assassinate someone by flopping these shinny blades out, you actually have to thrust them into the bastard to have any effect.
flopping them out and all the guards going to say is oooooooo shinny and than slice your freaking head off.
4 same as 3 but instead of sitting there i run towards the enemy, stop ust before i get to him and hit square.
SAME THING HAPPENS!
again, you have to thrust those blades into the enemy, flopping them out aint going to do jack sh*t.
5 the climbing controls seriously need some work.
i run up a wall hold LEFT on the stick hit x and ezio jumps backwards.
since when is LEFT backwards?
6 have a smoother transition from mission to mission.
more or less in the first city each mission leads onto the next one they connect perfectly.
but towards the end of the game that completley falls apart and your like WTF? how did i get here? WTF does this have to do with my previous mission, why am i doing this?
SPOILERS!
like memory bank 11 your finally officially find out that everyone you worked with was a assassin ( i know big surprise their skills just fell out of the sky) that was the best part of the game, every piece fell into place, every question was answered, who is the Spaniard, who and why was your father framed and killed.
everything was answered.
than they skip 2 mission banks and go onto transition 14.
and that one was annoying, the codex pages were a BITCH to decipher that really peeved me off that WAS NOT FUN!
than the first mission in rome?
that was even worse, your in a tiny little area littered with 20 guards you have to kill them without being seen.
jesus christ want to make it any harder?
there is nowhere to hide you just have to keep running in circles.
one thing ive noticed about ubisoft montreal and they did this with their last 3 games.
they create a masterpiece than towards the end like in the last 2 hours its like they ran out of ideas and completley destroy the whole game.
ignoring sequence 14 just considering up to sequence 11 i would give the game a 10, besides the above complaints their all minor and tolerable.
but with sequence 14 in i bring it down to a 8.5 thats how important the ending to a game is to me, its like a cake without icing.
a birthday without candles or a card.
there professionals at taking something perfect, a piece of art and fu***ng it up.
professionals and thats what theve done with their last 3 games. taken the mona lisa and turned it into a piece a 5 year old would of painted.
end spoiler rant.

As for #2, you do realize that only works if you're undetected, right? I've never had a problem taking down two guards directly beneath me or when I'm directly behind them.
In #3, you have to watch the upper right of the screen; you can only assassinate when the button lights up, and you need to be very, very close (again, that's very realistic due to the length of that hidden blade). If you want to take them out from further away, run at them; Ezio will leap and stab them in the neck. Same for #4.
#5, no. The climbing controls are perfect. It's more in the sensitivity of the controller that you're complaining about. And besides, you can't JUMP off a while unless you press X. Even if you're holding R1, Ezio won't jump anywhere. Just don't hold the X button when climbing; there's no reason to because that's the JUMP button. R1 will speed up your climbing if you're impatient.
I won't read the last one 'cuz I'm not that far yet. But I hope the rest of this helps you.

and it would be nice to have it automated.
just highlight a enemy and hit assassinate and etzo will run leap do whatever he needs to do get the assigned task done kinda like a RTS.
as for #2 in the church the assassin tomb there were 2 guards below me and i was itching to drop down and kill them but square would not come up, so i would drop down and hit quare hoping it would pick up but nope id have to take them out the old fashioned way.
3 and 4 sometimes that works for me, allot of the time it does not.
i highlight the enemy, run towards them, hit square just as it comes up and he runs into them.
than i got a battle royal on my hands.
as for 5 have you done all the assassins toombs?
if not i dont want to spoil it for ya but theres a puzzle you have to solve, 3 parts and each part requires a bloody annoying amount of running up a wall than jumping to a pole to your left or right.
and to tighten the screwdriver in your back your timed, if you dont complete all 3 puzzles in the required time start all over again.
took me like 2 hours just to get past that bit because i would hit x at the peak of the climb hit left as i hit x on the stick and ezio would jump back.
but anyway thanks, it takes some getting use too but besides the controls this is the best game ive played this year besides infamous props to ubi for this.

As for the other thing, you have to be a certain distance above guards when hanging to drop and assassinate, and I'm guessing the reason you couldn't do it when you landed is because they were alerted to your presence.
Btw, have you tried walking between two guards and trying the dual blade? Ezio will stick each arm out to the side and stick each blade into a throat. LOL

as for the drop well they had no idea i was there, until i landed on top of them.
finished it tonight and man what a ending i absolutely can not wait till assassins creed 3.
now all i need to do is find all the features and statues and glyphs and knock down 5 guards with a sweep and ive got me my 9th platinum.
that last ones a pain in the ... though, i cant charge it long enough to swing the distance.

1. Assassins Creed II
2. Resident Evil 5 (cause of the coop experience)
3. COD:Modern Warfare II
4. Skate II (was released in january, wasn't it?)
5. Borderlands
If Uncharted 2 had a storyline coop mode I'd shoehorn it into 3rd, without it it's just a very pretty railroad in my humble opinion (let's leave it at that - I do not intend to start that discussion again, just felt I had to explain why it's not on my list :) ).
