Bioware Community Swells Thanks To Dragon Age: Origins

There's little doubt that November has been all about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed II, but EA wants tor remind us that Bioware's latest RPG is awfully popular.

Today, EA has announced that DragonAge.com has set a new record for site traffic and the social networking site, Social.Bioware.com, has also reached new heights in the area of new user registrations. All told, the recent release of Dragon Age: Origins has swelled Bioware's ranks; the community has grown to a record five million registered users. In addition, the game has become the "fastest-growing EA property on Facebook," as over 30,000 fans have responded to the Dragon Age Facebook page. Mass Effect 2 (still exclusive to the Xbox 360) is also getting a ton of attention lately and in general, Bioware is mighty pleased with the widespread show of virtual affection. Said co-founder and Group General Manager, Ray Muzyka:

"We want to thank our fans for their enthusiasm and ongoing support. The passion within the community is not only helping drive momentum for Dragon Age referrals but our actively engaged fan base is eager for future content releases, which we are committed to deliver. We could not be more excited about the outstanding community growth. The connection we are fostering with our fans is direct and personal. This tremendous community will help set the stage for an incredible Mass Effect 2 launch on January 26th."

Oh yes, we're big fans of Origins as well and it's good to see it receiving such attention from so many people. Of course, it helps that we're talking about a game where questions and comments would be sky-high due to the inherent depth and intricacy of the title. Because the game can be played so very differently depending on class and simply how you approach combat, there's a whole lot of, "how do you do this?" going on.

Yeah I have been playing Dragon Age on my brand new PC and I love it. I cant get enough, a fantastic RPG with a style I have never played before. People say its like Knights of the Old Republic, is this true? And if I liked Dragon Age would I like that?

If you like Star Wars, you should. I really enjoyed KotOR back in my short Xbox days. Especially the first one. Didn't get as into the second.

Don't miss the first KotOR. It's dated now, but still very playable and by far one of the best Star Wars stories you'll ever experience.

It kinda helps that the social Bioware site is completely awesome. Why more games don't link player stats to a personal website is beyond me, because those that do are great.

Dragon Age is pretty sweet and I think I'll be enjoying it all the way up to xmas. I did sign up through my PS3 for that site (not the social one) but the DA servers never work anyway. Oh well I don't really care as I like to do everything on my own.

I'm starting to think EA will be releasing Mass Effect 1&2 for PS3 on a single Blu Ray 6 months to a year after the 360 debut of ME2. If they don't they are cutting their own throat profit-wise.

This game just goes to show that great story and flawless controls can make a game epic, even if it doesn't have the best graphics in the world

Why did Bioware skimp on the graphics? Is Mass Effect known for sub par graphics? Did Bioware rush this game out to the market?

I have not played either game, but everyone seems to agree that this game doesn't have great graphics.

The graphics are definitely not the highlight. They are very good, but not as good as you'd hope. I believe it's the DVD gimp effect that has done this. The game is very big so they probably ran out of space. Perhaps Bioware, who used to only sell their games on PC, should think of only selling their games on PS3...

im enjoying it.

However, it seems that whenever the west do an RPG in a fantasy setting, they can't go any further than the Lord Of The Rings feel or get stuck into too much realism.

I like my imagination to be challenged. JRPGs usually do this for me, Dragon Quest being the last one to fully do so.

They (WRPGs) always have the serious orchestral score, english voice overs and medieval setting, it just gets a bit tired.

I like the unrealistic nature of JRPGs like the toad who could synthesise weapons in Rogue Galaxy! I love it!
The melodic music that's usually keyboard driven (think Uematsu), the colourful worlds and characters....its just so much more appealing then these WRPGs like DA:O and Oblivion.

Ive clocked in 54hrs so far so i'm still enjoying it. Qualities like character bonding and choices are something i praise on the WRPG side...its kept me going clearly.

But, I guess what i'm saying is, i'm dying for a JRPG! BRING ON WKC!

I agree with you, jrpgs are the best, but as useful as the toad was the little bastard was ugly and annoying as hell.
