Bayonetta Sexes Up PSN, Call Of Duty Classic Arrives

All PS3 owners know that Sony updates the PlayStation Store every Thursday - or at least, they all should know that - and some weeks are more interesting than others.

This week is especially loaded down with appealing...erm...downloads. Okay, that sentence didn't work but that's only because I'm excited to finally be able to sample Bayonetta; the demo is now available for North American gamers. It has been up on the Japanese Store for quite some time so many of you have already sampled it, but for those of us who haven't had the time and don't have a JPN account, we'll be pouncing now. Furthermore, Call of Duty Classic is now up there for $14.99, you can download the latest Qore episode, and PS1 classics Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and Command & Conquer: Red Alert Retailiation are available for the standard price of $5.99. Oh, and both LittleBigPlanet and Fight Night Round 4 each get a horde of new content, so if you're a fan of either (or both), you'll definitely want to log on and check things out. I suppose you can also try out demos for Fairytale Fights and Guitar Hero: Van Halen but we all have to admit that Bayonetta owns this week.

And all personal feeling aside, I point you in the direction of EDGE's 10 out of 10 review for Bayonetta, where they say the game "slaps Dante, Kratos and every other hero back to the drawing board." ...if it wasn't for such a bold statement, I'd never point you in their direction but whatever. Look for Ben's hands-on preview of the demo in question, which should show up soon.

+1 for the Monster Rancher request. I would love to see that game on the PSN, I just wonder how they would work in the switch disc function.

i raised my eyebrow at the headline... "sexed up". well bayonetta spiced up the number of excellent demos that are available. after playing the demo, all i gotta say is this: i'm buying this on day one. there's just something 'satisfying' about torturing enemies to death with iron maiden torture attacks and having a bigass dragon munch on huge enemies like chew toys. i also like how bayonetta can shoot everything around her like a madwoman and the matrix-esque witch time never gets tiring. crazy-nonsense-insanity-ridiculousness ftw!!!

I'm STILL having trouble with her appearance in Bayonetta, I mean, GEEZ... she looks like a whacked-out, physically-distorted "Palin".

Dante was bad-ass when Devil May Cry first came out.

I would DEFINITELY be more interested if she looked more like Lisa Ann from "Nailin' Palin"!!

i looked at a comparison between her and palin and they look nothing alike. palin has a bigger jaw, like if it was swollen. another comparison is that bayonetta has class/style, whereas palin just has wrinkles. :P

Can anyone tell me what the songs in the Van Halen demo are, please? I don't plan to buy the game and we Canadians couldn't take advantage of the giveaway. I just want to know what the songs are so I can decide whether to download it or not.

If memory serves, Edge online gave both Killzone 2 and Dead Space a score of 7. I have not trusted their reviews since, seeing as their definition of quality is clearly far removed from mine.

Yeah, World, that was the one comment from the review that seemed... well... just wrong. It is probably in there just to get the review noticed and get hits.

As good as Bayonetta is, it is just a reskinned Devil May Cry... probably containing all of Kamiya's ideas for what he would have done for DMC 4 if he were still at Capcom.

as much as i like kratos, i seriously doubt she'll go down if he just slapped her. she's not gonna stand there and go "hey bigboy, give me a good 'ol pat on the cheek :D" and take it. she'd either dodge it, parry it, or do that slow-down time thing. she's also faster than him. i'm not saying that she'd beat the dude, but if they did fight, don't think she'll go down like a common enemy. same goes for dante, ninja gaiden, and the guy from darksiders

I was not in the least bit interested in Beyonetta as it's the same guy making the same game i wasn't into before but, downloaded it anyway.

It's surprisingly slick and full of creativity, i always wonder why the most imaginative games seem to only come out of Japan.

It's mega OTT and Beyonetta is one bad mamma if not an absolute mental....that taunt button is hilarious.

Definitely better than DMC but, still near enough the same.

Still not interested and don't agree with the praise (at least from the demo, graphics and camera alone bring it down) but, i don't mind it in the industry at all, infact i would welcome it.

Just thought i'd say how it surprised me.

Japanese games are always more creative and have better stories, not sure why. They just are more imaginative and tend to stick to all the bothersome plot points and stereotypes a bit less than the west.

In previous generations, I agree. Nearly all my games were from Japanese studios. This generation, surprisingly, most of my games are from American/Western developers. And it's no secret that they are realizing this, and they are seeing the need to cater to the international audiences.

and if they do, this gens games will be worst ever.

As World said, it just so happens Japan turns out a lot of creativity and it hasn't gone away. We just don't see em as often due to publishers looking for money, not quality.

I mean, no Demon's Souls in Europe....wtf?

I hate to say it but, our homelands are not winning, they're plaguing the industry with repeats and money thoughts. This don't apply to all of course, just some *cough* Activision *cough*.

Im just hoping so much that things turn around and i praise Sony for their belief in the more artistic and the innovative.

I hate the fact i don't buy games as often anymore because of all this. A hardcore gamer shouldn't say that :S

Yes it is more western than traditional eastern.

But, name a game like Demon's Souls...you can't. It's incredibly unique and has nothing like it before it. It's what the west should of made! But, instead, the east came and shown us how it's done.

If you can name a game like Demon's Souls...you will probably be naming another eastern one like Kings Field...which ironically is from the same team.

While I generally agree with World, "always" is a massive overstatement. I think Aftab's statements are more accurate.

However, while Japanese developers show more creativity when it comes to storytelling and art design, they show almost no creativity when it comes to gameplay, at least lately. Most of those teams have been making the same game (with meaningless gimmicky changes) for the last decade or more.

Meanwhile Western developers are trying to advance the medium.

Exceptions include Team ICO and (thanks to Ryan Payton) Kojima Productions.

Bayonetta was one of those "wait and see" games for me. Not anymore. I downloaded the demo and love it! Just like with Arkham Asylum, I wouldn't have given it a shot without the demo. Now it's a day one purchase for me. Can't wait for the Dante's Inferno demo next week, hopefully there'll be a Darksiders demo too. That's the third "wait and see" game on my list.

i just played the bayonetta demo and honestly its smooth but nothing great, then again its just a demo so hear me out! it was fun and flashy dont get me wrong and sega did a good job. But, and the big but is the character and movement is too fast meaning when im watching on screen i dont know if im taking damage (obviously the damage bar moves) or if im striking. Thats only irritating to me because the character does not feel weighted at all by movements or anything and why i hate that is because i feel like i can lose control. I know its probably not a big issue to anyone else but i need that feeling of control. For Edge to say "slaps Dante, Kratos and every other hero back to the drawing board." is rediclous in my eyes.

The demo was fun and when i finished it yeah i said to myself "that was actually fun" meaning it was beter than i thought. But is it GOW worthy i think not, maybe devil may cry since they both have guns ;). the game will most likely be good and probably worth the money the demo proved that. I just dont like looking at a bunch of flashy colors and balls of blur when im attacking lol. minor concern.

I have the same feelings with the demo.

about the reviewers I think they must be otaku for prefer Bayonetta over Kratos because the game its like some kind of manga.

I personally don't like the character and her attacks I find them ridiculous some of the finishing move she do are actually pretty fun but cheesy .

offtopic: Bayo and her old fatass can go to fucking hell Sega just give me Yakuza 3 NOW!!

Even though I'm not into those kind of fighting games, I went ahead and fired up the demo last night.
And ya know what? I found it to be pretty damned good and it kept me totally amused.

The only annoying fault I could find was trying to keep adjusting the camera to where I wanted or needed it(I'm guessing it's due to all the fast-paced action, but I sure hope they can correct it)

I especially like conjuring up her Hair-Wolf demon to chomp down on the enemy like it was filet minion being offered up to a overeaters convention in a 50 cent buffet line.

and not to mention seeing lots of bare, and extremely curvaceous, Bayonetta butt-cheek heiny
