EA Officially Announces Dead Space 2

We all knew it was coming but it's always nice to have the official press release staring us in the face.

Today, Visceral Games and Electronic Arts have announced Dead Space 2, the highly anticipated sequel to one of the most impressive and accomplished survival/horror titles to date. Protagonist Isaac Clarke is back for another intense and terrifying adventure and this time, he'll have the benefit of "new tools to gruesomely slice and dismember the Necromorphs." Of course, his default Plasma Cutter will return, as will those innovative zero-gravity environments and those horrid and freakish creatures that really only die when their limbs are severed from their bodies. Oh, and it seems the team is interested in providing an even better story (which we always appreciate); here's what Dead Space 2 Executive Producer, Steve Papoutsis, had to say:

"We’re thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac’s journey. The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of Necromorphs that need killing. In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you."

The press release further reminds us of the original's success; it received nearly 100 industry awards and holds an average critical review score of 89. It's certainly one of our favorite games of the generation thus far and we just can't wait to learn more about the sequel. In the meantime, feel free to peruse any info they have available over at the game's official website.

I mean make a super easy co-op game out of it, I enjoyed RE5 don't get me wrong its just that it wasn't scarry and it wasn't that challenging

RE5 was an excellent game, though Co-op should've been optional. Having a second shooter along with you, makes you feel more secure. Thinking that you got your back covered. It's a lot less scary than Dead Space.

RE5 was easily the biggest dissapointment for me this gen. It wasnt scary, was short as hell, had a bad story and was too action based. It had pretty graphics. That's it. I can't help and compare them to previous titles. It will never get better then RE2 or 4 if they dont get Mikami back. The co op took away any feeling of isolation and fright that has been so commen and the reason RE titles have been scary in the past. I still think they added Sheva and the co op because of the racial over tones Capcom was being wrongly accused of.

I did have my fun with RE5 it just didn't feel like a true Resident Evil and Dead Space did almost everything right that Capcom got wrong.

I remember there was ONE scene in RE5 where I actually felt scared. That was when your partner has to hold the flashlight for you in the cave.

RE5 is easily in my top 5 biggest disappointments in gaming EVER. Someone please explain to me how exactly it's a Resident Evil game? Thankfully ResidentEvil2 was recently released on the PSN to get the bad taste out of my mouth.

I'm looking forward to DS2, that game was what survival horror should be.

for once something i agree with.
resi is suppose to be a survival horror game.
resi 5 IS NOT! a survival horror game, its a action game plain and simple.
its the asian version of L4D.

Otis, rent or barrow the movie prequel. It's not worth the purchase. It's like watching saterday morning cartoons for adults. It did set up the story nicely though as the gentlemen said above the animation is just crap though.

How are they going to pull this off? Didn't the story of the first one kind of, you know, end? I thought that everything was wrapped up.

Dead Space was spectacular, but I'd almost rather them just leave it be.

Seriously, I can tell you what the next one's plot will be: Isaac Clarke somehow gets stuck on yet another abandoned spaceship and cuts the arms off of a bunch of necromorphs. Just like the first one, I guess.

When you beat the original game

spoilers

The ending left the fate of Isaac up in the air. Did he survive, or was he killed by his Necro-girl? I guess we would have known by the time the trailers came out anyway, but this is a very anti-climatic way to find out he survived. Maybe he's batshit insane now or something. Or maybe it's one of the plot twists they mentioned.

Wouldn't it be crazy if the twist was that Isaac is in the game, but as one of the necromorphs and not the main protagonist?

Awesome. One of the few multiplats that was actually worth the 60 bucks. EA's decision to use the PS3 as the lead platform paid off. Great game, not perfect but well done. Can't wait for the sequel.

This is fantastic news. The first is my most played game I've got. Think I've completed it 6 or 7 times just so I can node up all my weapons to the max and then just walk through the game with ease killing necromorphs at an alarming rate. Would be nice if in the new one Isaac was infected by the necromorphs and had now a connection with another hive mind. He'd have only a few hours to save the world before he himself became an all out freak. Or something along them lines.

Dead Space is one of my favorite games of all time. Loved the weapons, the environment, and the gameplay.

Knowing sequels, the creator always wants to add more in terms of weapons and advantages for the main character. I'm guessing somewhere in the story Isaac will get some kind of alien power without turning completely into a Necromorph. Maybe one of his arms might transform making his melee attacks more powerful or something along those lines. When you look at a lot of different sequels for games, the character always makes use of his enemies strength by obtaining that strength and using it as his own. I can almost guarantee it.

O FU** YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hopefully this one is actually scary though.
the first was far to predictable.
like you get into a elevator the camera turns to face the door and i say ooo here comes a necromorph to pry the doors open.
and what happens?
it was just far, far, far to predictable.
last game to actually scare me was doom 3, but if you really want a scary game go find the suffering.
thats not only scary as in shocks but scary as in its twisted and plays with your mind.
sort of like torture porn but actually scary.
the suffering is the only game i have been unable to finish because it scared me that much, i was to scared to go back and complete it.
BRILLIANT! thats what horror games are suppose to be like.
