Square-Enix Confirms Collectors Edition For Final Fantasy XIII

Oh, like you didn't see this coming.

Although we had all assumed Square-Enix would provide us with some sort of special edition for Final Fantasy XIII, no such item had been confirmed. But according to The Lost Gamer, Square-Enix has announced there will most certainly be a Collectors Edition and for now, we'll just assume that it'll come to both North American and European gamers in March. The following statement showed up in the latest edition of the Square-Enix Europe newsletter:

"If you thought your excitement for FINAL FANTASY XIII had reached fever pitch, brace yourself for the news of a forthcoming Limited Collector’s Edition version of next year’s most anticipated title. What’s in the box you ask? I’m afraid we’re keeping schtum for the time being, but rest assured that the extras will be well worth the wait."

I've never heard of "schtum" before but I think we all get the gist. So we have no idea what they're going to include in this special package but given the fact that publishers have gone crazy with these bundles lately, one can only imagine... Actually, that's a good question: what do you think they'll feature in the Collectors Edition of FFXIII? Or rather, what do you want them to include? For my part, I don't mind a few nifty collectibles here and there but really, I want more in the way of actual content. Cross your fingers and hope for tangible goodies.

Yes! Japanese language track with English subtitles and japanese soundtrack would do nicely! Only thing is that is probably wishful thinking...

Yeah. Though the thing im worried about the most is the theme song for this game. I dont like Leona Lewis's "my hands" to be the theme! Why don't they just stay with the japanese soundtrack like every other final fantasy. Suteki Da ne was nice. And even though 1000 words was dubbed to english it was almost the same as the japanese version. Buth with FFXIII they completely changing it!! I like the song playing on the 5 minute trailer! can't they just stick with that for the us versions too!!!!

If its anything like the Final Fantasy XII Collectors Edition, This won't be worth the extra money that they are going to charge for it.

Hopefully its not just a bunch of DLC.

If the game itself has a metal or special packaging along with an extra weapon, armour or buncha side missions, I'm sold.

I'm not really interested in figurines and such, don't serve much purpose unless you're a collector.

'schtum' is a slang word in the UK, mostly England used to mean keeping quiet. As in "We're keeping schtum on that for now." It's sometimes spelled shtum, and is used both as a noun "keeping schtum" or as a verb (kind of) with a command like "Everyone SCHTUM!".

I have to admit I thought it was spelled shtum or shtoom in UK slang usage.

Keeping Mum is similar in meaning, but the two are not related - as far as I know, nor is one rhyming slang for the other.

A popular 'theory' is that schtum is a mispronunciation of stumm the German word for silent or (dumb - as in not able or willing to speak) and this somehow managed to become slang for keeping quiet in the UK. If that's the case then I would personally guess that it has something to do with WW1/WW2, either the POWs returning, or just the British troops in Germany probably picked up on the word and started using it themselves as a kind of army slang for keeping quiet. It's not a hop skip or a jump from that to it being commonly used throughout England.

Another possible, or likely explanation is that schtum is a yiddish work meaning being quiet. That would certainly fit with my impression that schtum was a slang expression that originated in East London, since there was a pretty well established Yiddsh community in East London.

Did I mention I'm from the UK?

Though my import version is about to be shipped. And with 1 million shipped to stores already with another 300k planned the next 3 days, it looks like Square-Enix has a success on their hands.

Just heard the beginning of Leona Lewis's version. And I couldn't reach the end. WTF are they thinking? I just can't believe this! Kimi Ga Irukara's song is better by leagues. What does putting on make-up have anything to do with FF13 and the situation Leona, please tell me? I don't know what Irukara is saying but it sounds pretty authentic and fitting for the game. My purchase now rests solely on the fate of the implementation of Irukara's song. FF13 don't fail me now. LOL...naw I'm still gonna get it...but WTF?

English translation:

You suddenly said, “You can cry if you want”
Somehow it made me happy, instead of tears I smiled
My words so clumsy, they hurt you
But I don’t want you to leave me, I want you to stay beside me always

Wishes and dreams I want to come true
The feelings I wish I could tell you
A miracle created from the things I’ve always believed
Is connected to the future
Always, always I want you to watch over me
Dear my friend

You said, on leaving “You’ll be able to do it”
The loneliness I felt was wiped clean with those words
I’m opening a new door, anyone would be frightened
All I had to do was remember you and the strength flowed through me

I won’t give up my feelings
If I can make voice to all these words
Then the future will open up wide
Because always, always you are in my heart
Dear my friend

~Interlude~

I vow that
No matter if I stop, or if I forget
I will keep moving forward
Light is shining down, when I look up at the sky
Until the day when I can see you again

I won’t give up my feelings
If I can make voice to all these words
Then the future will open up wide
Wishes, the dreams I want to come true
The feelings I wish I could tell you
A miracle created from the things I’ve always believed
Is connected to the future
Always, always I want you to watch over me
Dear my friend

I don't know why she was considered. Could've just kept the original music. Guess she's trying to be like Cynthia Harrell since she sang in Castlevania:SOTN and Metal Gear Solid 3.

Don't worry, You didn't miss much with it. It only had a dvd that had some trailers from XII and a horribly put together retrospective of the series. They send like a grand total of 1 minute on each game I believe. The tin case was okay though.
