Retailers Selling FFXIII Early In Japan, Screenshots Abound

We may have to wait until March but those lucky Japanese get to play it in just a few days time. Well, even luckier fans already have it, and I'll freely admit that I'm so jealous I could cry. ...oh, shut up.

First of all, you can no longer purchase Final Fantasy XIII on Amazon Japan anymore; they're completely sold out, and we've learned that those wishing to turn a tidy profit are selling their copies for as much as $150. That's right, it seems some retailers have already jumped the gun, opting to sell the game before the scheduled December 17 release date (which isn't exactly a huge shock). But because that has happened, you can expect all sorts of screenshots to start hitting the Internet and you can find one of the first batches over at the Unofficial Final Fantasy Site. Now, if this is just too much for you to handle, you can always import the game from Play-Asia for about $100, but for the rest of us who can wait, we'll just take a deep breath...and accept it. March isn't that far off. As for the screenshots, they really are pretty, and for whatever strange reason, I especially like the in-game menu shots with the character's avatar in the background. I dunno, they just look so sweet.

That import version is region-free, by the way, so you won't have any issues playing it in your PS3. The whole language barrier thing might prove problematic, though, and the storyline is always essential in FF. Your call.

I do have a friend living in Australia got a copy of it and he is trying to figure out the menu.

Until I learn fluent Japanese, I'm going to have to hold off on the imports.

Unless it's a FFVII remake. Then I'll have to get both versions to add to the collection.

You know there will be millions of websites that will be translating this, hell even the link up at the top says they will. So if you didn't want to import it fine, but the cant read excuse is getting over done. I do respect your opinion, but this game is gonna be to awesome not to import and play. Hmmm let's see, spend 100 bucks to import a game I can't read or understand then rely on websites to translate it before or after I play it or wait till march, pay 60 bucks and understand it as I'm playing it. Wow....that's a tough one.

Got to agree with Jawk, there is nothing more bothersome and experience-ruining than constantly turning your head over to your PC to read the translation that you can have coming directly at you on the screen in a couple months for much less moneys.

Hmm, I'd have agree with DIsmael85. There is nothing more irritating than lsitening to a really pansy English dub. And hell, people translate animes all the time & that doesn't ruin the fun or confuse me at all.

Not true Oxviel. There's always a wait for the NA versions of Final Fantasy. This wait is no longer then any other. Infact it feels shorter. The decission was can have later is what could have been better had it been a true exclusive. Then we can rail against MS. :)

This time though, our wait is not their fault. No Final Fantasy title had ever released in Japan and the West at the same time.

@ VVorld - to my ears most English dubs are pansy. And I wasn't exactly a fan of the English voice-overs in previous Final Fantasy installments either.

No we wouldn't. Regardless of it's multiplat status we would still be waiting. Once again, No Final Fantasy has seen a simultaneous release in the East and West. We would still be waiting regardless.

And I guess I didn't understand. Silly me for assuming a Japanese copy of FFXIII only comes in Japanese and that you would be enjoying a japanese copy in anything but Japanese.

Aah, i see. Maybe, maybe not. FF Has never had that option before but this gen with blue ray I agree it could have been a reality.

I still don't agree that it would have been released sooner even in japan. From my understanding Squenix just barely finished polishing the ps3 version a few months ago.

Anyone who's been posting here as long as I have knows I'm no fan of MS but with as lame as they are I just don't think we can blame them for the delay.

I will wait patiently and excitedly, but more importantly I will avoid too much exposure to pictures and plot elements, I want the experience to blow me away from the word go.

Lol, You obviously don't know the specs of the game. It is going to be AAA+ like every other FF game. They tend to set a high standard in graphics and are excellent story tellers.

I said it b4 and I'll say it again: March 2010 = 2nd Holiday season!

I can't wait to play this game. It will consume us all. And the best thing about this game...No tacked-on multiplayer. I'm so sick games that rely on multiplayer to be fun that I haven't played MW2 in weeks.

I'm kind of hoping that FF13 sells poorly on the 360. Or that it breaks 360s. That'll probably set S-E straight.

It didnt really start "Early" the game got shipped to store early this week, and Pre-orders shipping started "today".. My Bundle Got shipped, getting it tomorrow (release date), or today If I'm really lucky(since its 6:40 am here atm 12/16/2009):P

Im fluent in Japanese but would still rather wait until March for the English version. I cant stand dialogue and voice acting in most Japanese games. There are exceptions of course, but FF has never been one.

Just my opinion, but for all of us suffering the wait till March: itll be worth it.

FFs can be kinda girly, but that's okay, so can anything deep and rewarding. The flip side is the epic battles and personal involvement.

if i import games from JP are they always automatically set in Japanese?
importing bayonetta has really confused me.
you buy bayonetta from japan, so you would assume it would be in Japanese but its not everything is in english.
i was thinking of importing it because my cuz is a massive final fantasy fan.
but if its going to be in Japanese than theres no point because he wont be able to understand what the hells going on.

I would sooo import it because, dang, those screenshots look sweet. I can't read Japanese all that well, but I certainly can understand the majority of the spoken language. Unfortunately, my wallet's disagreeing with the price tag. Urgh.

But even if I don't import it now, I will import it in the future just to have both versions. Because although the English dub isn't ever terrible for FF, I always found the Japanese seiyuu have done better jobs.
