G4TV Awards: Uncharted 2 Dominates Competition

It was Uncharted 2's night this past weekend at the Spike TV Video Game Awards, scoring the top honors with Game of the Year and also netting Best PS3 Game and Best Graphics.

Well, if it's even possible, the game fared even better in G4TV's Best of 2009 Awards. Not only did Naughty Dog's masterpiece snag another Game of the Year win, but it also won awards for Best Animation, Best Writing, and Best Action/Adventure Game (Assassin's Creed II won this category at the VGAs). We very much liked to see inFamous as a Game of the Year nominee, although we still can't agree that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a better shooter than Killzone 2, which still stands head and shoulders above any other FPS this generation, in our opinion. See what you think about the rest of the winners and feel free to comment; we can't really see how Best RPG could go to Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story when up against Dragon Age: Origins and Demon's Souls but...well, we'll remedy such mistakes when our GotY Awards go live at the end of the year. Flower got another nod with an award for Best Soundtrack, and whatever praise that game receives is probably well deserved so we aren't gonna complain there.

But Chloe, my favorite new character of the generation, lost out to Eddie Riggs from Brutal Legend again. This category wasn't for best voice but for "Best New Character," but even so...I mean, Eddie Riggs is a bad-ass and I love metal but Chloe's my girl. Well, anyway. Uncharted 2 reigns supreme once again.

That's because G4TV actually DO know a thing or two about gaming. Giving Uncharted 2 all those awards was a must for them.

seriously, Uncharted 2 is a must-have game. I picked it up, but it just hit me right now, why have a PS3 & not Uncharted 2? this game had better sell 10 million copies, seriously.

Ben, Chole?! What about the other girl Nate had a rapport with? She was smokin'! Chloe had a nice ass...very nice ass, but the news reporter girl looked far better than Chole. I wish I could remember her name...

I know people here seem to really love Chloe but... I just don't like her voice. Don't get me wrong, she's a great voice actor, but she sounds too... I don't know, raspy or throaty? Her voice is certainly not music to my ears.

I believe Alienage is referring to the fact that Chloe's voice actress, Claudia Black, is in Pitch Black. And if I remember correctly, she gets her head ripped off...

Yup. The wife was watching PB shortly after I finished UC2 and my head spun around when I heard that voice. Never really knew who Claudia was until that moment ... was a real "WTF!" moment for me.

I like Xplay for something to watch in the background while I look up real game news. That was a bad, boring show. How many times can you watch clips of Borderlands, AA, AC2 and Uncharted in 45 minutes? And they explained each game's premise EVERY time. I was kinda happy to see Mario pop up for a change. Wouldn't have let him win, though. Guessing he only won because they wanted to "switch it up" and do something unexpected. lol.

I don't know about you guys but I was extremely shocked at these results. Typically, G4 is all about the 'pleasefixme'. For them to give a PS3 title the Game of the Year is huge in my opinion. Although, this could be because there were no Xbox games this year. It would have been interesting to see how Uncharted 2 fared against an actual 'Halo' and not an add-on. Who knows, maybe they are starting to actually have an opinion that isn't paid for.

If you actually watched the Awards show, Sessler got really exciited everytime U2 got mentioned, he is entirely in love with the game and repeatedly called it "the best single player experience ever".

Cant believe there was no nom. for Shatter on either of the game awards shows, that is one of the best PSN title out.

It's actually amusing to see them acknowledging ps3 games

A great win for Uncharted 2 nonetheless

And yes, Chloe is hands down the best new female character this year.

I'm totally with you on this one. I'd follow Chloe around to check out that perfect ass, but Elena is adorable and charming. Chloe's sexy, but she overdoes it.
Lastly, I'm much more impressed with Ezio than Chloe, just because she was basically a stock + sex-it-up character. Yeah, I know, she switches back and forth, but *yawn* srsly, when you're an MA-English student like me, you read that tedium alllll of the time. At least Elena has personality, and I didn't know what was gonna happen with Ezio.

No offense, but if you're an English major, you should be able to spot Ezio's cliche. I mean...how many times have you seen the "they killed my family; they're gonna pay?" There wasn't much more to Ezio's character, besides a cocky bravado, which I did like.

As far as Chloe, I think the last scenes prove there's a lot more to her. She was basically in tears when Drake said he was going after Lazaravich. She also has a loyal streak of rage - shown on the train - to go along with what she puts on the surface. Elena is...well, the nice girl with a certain toughness. Seen that before, too.

Sorry, but I think Chloe is a far more fully fleshed-out character than either of the other two.

neither has R&C ACIT.
i hope the trend changes and people start acknowledging other games than shooters, you allways complain were saturated with them why do you think thats happening?
look at this gens GOTYs are all shooter games.
open world exploration games need to get more credit than what there receiving.
like prototype.
sure it was buggy as hell, and repetitive but ive never had so much fun roaming the streets ripping sh*t apart.
one of the very few games that let you be a bad a$$ and tear a city a new one.

There's no way in hell that Heavy Rain is gonna beat out GOWIII. It's already the most anticipated game of next year.
You gotta include GT5 and KZ3 in there, along with MassEffect2, but no, it's GOWIII for GotY next year, friend. ;)

Just finally got some of my buddies to come down to my place the other day to see what they've been missing out on.
I only had time to show the 1rst lv of U2 and the god of war 3 demo but by the time those were done they had a funny look on their faces.
Like,"Oh so that's what all the fuss is about."
Too many xbots make no effort to actually see whats out there.
Actually made me get back into my U2 hard file
and I smoked Lazarvich on the 2nd try today.

He ended by tossin 3 more grenades at me but I blew up the resin just as they lined up so he got hit with a quadruple blast. For a action movie plot thick with cheese it still doesnt disappoint.

Looks like Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 rule the school this year. Though, I agree that Killzone 2 is a better FPS, you've gotta admit the perks system in MW2 is better. Combine that with the hype and the fact that it's still fresh in everyone's mind, it's not surprising that it's beating KZ2 out.

Bowser's inside story really is a great RPG. Its not huge an in-depth and meticulous like Dragon Age, but its plain silly fun. Really, thats what gaming is all about anyway.

Im wondering how the hell MW2 got best sound design. KZ2's sound was perfect, and it supports 7.1. MW2 only supports 5.1, iirc. Regardless, i was much more impressed with KZ2's sound.

I really need to pick up Demon's Souls. Stupid Christmas making my wallet light....

I hated the fact that ratchet & clank did not win anything but xplay did nominate it ,in the VGAs I did not see it. :( should of won best animation or something.

U2 didn't interest me at all, I just couldn't get into the character, even after playing several hours of the first game, which I didn't even finish. Never could get into the Lara Croft games either, go figure.

I'm as tired of the PS3 getting shafted as any other loyal PS3 owner, so it was good to have an exclusive game win such a award, but I would rather seen more multi-plat games produced and to a better quality then what the PS3 is currently getting. But companies have to work to the extent of the weakest link, and that still proves to be the xbox...
