Pre-Order Heavy Rain, Land First Chronicles Episode

It's one of PSXE's most anticipated games of the generation and now, you've got plenty of incentive to pre-order what may be the most ambitious and innovative title yet.

As announced over at the PlayStation Blog, pre-ordering wll net you the first episode of the Heavy Rain Chronicles (retail price of $4.99) entitled, "Heavy Rain: Chronicle One - The Taxidermist," which can be all yours the day the game is on store shelves. If you're wondering what these episodes are, SCEA Product Marketing Manager Jefferson Dong has an explanation:

"Each Chronicle will offer unique, stand-alone, playable short stories featuring one of Heavy Rain’s main characters, and a storyline taking place either before or after Heavy Rain’s original narrative. Similar to Heavy Rain, each episode will offer a unique journey and different outcomes based on the players’ decisions and actions."

"The Taxidermist" will focus on journalist Madison Paige in her investigation of the notorious serial killer; essentially, it's an "expansion and an update" to the Taxidermist demo that everyone really loved when they showed it off last year. Follow the link above to place your pre-order online at any one of the following retailers in the US: Amazon, GameCrazy, and GameStop (both online and in-store). Canadians can visit Amazon.ca, BestBuy.ca, EB Games and FutureShop.ca. If you don't wish to pre-order, you can still see the Chronicles; you just have to wait and pay for them. The first two will go up on the PSN some time after the game's launch.

As if you need more incentive to pre-purchase.

Just saw this in the Playstation RSS feed. I may actually have to break down and pre-order. I don't normally pre-order games because well the benefits never quite seem worth it. Even early access demos don't usually cut it for me, but I am very intrigued by this game and early FREE access to extra content has me very interested indeed.

i wounder how this game plays... is it like RE5 with that weird camera view or like U2 with a more free view? someone told me its like a movie you play scene by scene and interact with button prompts. that would be strange.. i dont think i would like that

Check out some gameplay vids at gametrailers or where ever. It should give you a good idea of how it plays.

Looking forward to this game very much. We need some originality in our gaming.

Very Cool! This makes me want it more! Also, I have a strong feeling this game will not make a Feb release, I can't see Sony release this game so close to God of War! It will hurt Heavy Rain! I can see a late May or Mid June release. It will be the best thing for the game. If it does come out in late Feb it will compete Splinter Cell, Which I also want! Think about it Sony! What do you think guys?

Looks like this game just got bumped to pre-order status for me. Going to get this ordered right after Christmas even though I won't get charged until it ships.

If I were to look at this from a marketer's perspective, this is an ingenuous marketing tactic. If this were to be applied to other games, established franchises or brand new (and promising) IPs, it'd be a great catalyst for pre-orders for people who werre on the fence, therefore boosting sales if you add those people with the people who are already dead set on buying it (me ^__^).

Plus, free DLC if you pre-ordered! Lol

If I import the European one will the US DLC work?

nope.
all DLC is region locked, so if you buy a PAL game you must buy PAL DLC and visa verse.

you can but if your using say a US PSN account you must have a US address on the card your using.
best thing to do would be to use entropay.com
thats what im using, they create a virtual card for you and you can load funds from your card to that.
not sure if that works with EU PSN though, works perfectly with the US so i dont see why not the EU.
worth a shot.

FWIW, they're not _Quick_ time events, in that for the most part you don't have to mash the button quickly. There are simply situational control schemes with subtle on-screen indicators, so that you know which button does what in any given situation.

Some do require quick responses, I'm sure, but the whole QTE thing has been over-played. ALL games require that you press certain buttons at certain times in reaction to what's happening on-screen.

I thought this was only done by greedy devs.If the disc adventure takes up the entire disc i guess im ok with it;sad to see cheap multiplatform tactics on exclusives though

This particular episode was created as a demo for industry types, in order to hide the actual story elements. It doesn't directly fit into the Origami Killer story, so it isn't part of the game (since narrative cohesiveness is important to Quantic Dream). However, they have polished it for public consumption as an additional episode.

Does anyone know a site where they check how much disc space a particular game takes? This DLC stuff is starting to get out of control

Never one to pre-order. So when you do how will they send the extra DLC content to you? Will they send you a code by mail or something? Please someone respond. This might end up determining whether or not I pre-order and get that extra episode.
