God Of War Collection Will Release In Europe...Sort Of

As it usually is for Europeans, this is a good-news, bad-news situation.

We'll start with the bad: as you know, the God of War Collection, featuring high-definition remakes of the first two PS2 entries in the series, has not been released in PAL territories. The good news is that it will be available in 2010...but not by itself. Here, you can just buy the Collection and be done with it. If you want those HD remakes in Europe, however, you're going to have to buy the massive God of War III Ultimate Trilogy Edition, as reported by Kotaku. HD remakes for the first two titles will be included in that Pandora's Box of amazing goodness, along with a ton of other extras and goodies. Obviously, because we already have the Collection available on store shelves now, we won't be getting it in the special GoWIII Collectors Edition in the US. So, if you're a PAL gamer, you can really get the ultimate GoW bundle next year, thereby giving yourself the absolute best of the entire franchise in one fell swoop. Yeah, you're gonna pay for it but you have to pay for awesome things. It's kind of a rule.

Although I wonder if they'd even bother to include the GoWIII demo that came in our God of War Collection. I mean, you've got GoWIII in there; why bother?

I bought the import US version already, so I don't really have to get the Ultimate version. I'm getting the regular version of GoWIII.

I've never imported a game. Would the US version play perfectly well here in the UK? Is there any difference at all?

Usually, everything works well except for DLC. You can only buy DLC for your local version of the game in your local store (and buying it from the U.S. store, for instance, requires a U.S. credit card or PSN card, which can be a pain to get). DLC for one version doesn't work with a different version of the game.

So, if you're absolutely sure you won't get any DLC, you can import.

Thank you, Fane. The DLC is something to think about, I'll probably wait for the Euro version. The thing is I still haven't played any GOW so trying the first two would've been the smart move. Ah well, it'll be a unique experience getting three blockbuster games in one day, in one box.

Are they taking the piss? Why are they going all Activision on us euro gamers?

I was really looking forward to the collection, looks like I will have to get an import or buy it when I am in the states, poor effort on their behalf, don't get me wrong this is good for those that want it, but I just want to play the game not have more crap that collects dust, a choice would be nice.

kind of stupid...yerr its good we'r be getting 3 games plus all tha kool extras BUT...we'r not going to want to play god of war 1,2 when we'll have god of war 3 sitting there looking at us. I love this bundle they got set up dont get me wrong but what i said is kinda true...think about it. I'll probly get it..depending on price

True, having never played any GOW games I want to play GOW 1 then 2 then 3, with GOW3 still a few months away plenty of time I thought to play 1 and 2 first.

What about the people who have already bought GOW3 on pre-order? they have to buy the game twice just to play the 1 and 2 HD remake?

This is fantastic news as an Aussie gamer. Was tossing up whether to import these or not. I don't mind waiting a bit longer now to grab all three titles in the one pack. Hard thing will be deciding which game to play first!

I'll never understand why they do stuff like this. PS3 games are region free, why in the world wouldn't they release it in Europe the same way they release in in NA? Obviously more people would buy it for its relatively low price rather than pay for the very expensive ultimate edition or whatever.

I have already got this off ebay as I had an idea something like this would happen. So next year I'll just be getting the normal edition.

i can't even download the gow3 demo to my ps3. some kind of network error keeps popping up, and ive tried everything to fix it to no success. the demo should have and could have been easily put onto the disc. it's the only downloadable thing ive had problems with, that and streaming hd movies from netflix won't work either. laaaaame.
